Thank you for saying it I love the respect. Because I had a similar moment when I killed my first animal it takes a minute for your body and mind to understand what just happened it’s something special.
Steve silently handled Doug’s kill perfectly. The experience as a hunter to appreciate the significance for Doug. The experience as a show host to recognize the magic of the moment.
You nailed it. After my first hunt, I didn't go again for over 30yrs. And I've only hunted three times since. I stopped fishing nearly 40yrs ago after realizing the fish didn't have nearly the fun I had. It affects everyone, some of us more deeply than others.
@@branchandfoundry560just don’t buy meat from grocery stores. This is how we feed our selves. Should never make you quit, very weak minded and not understanding. We pray and thank the Lord after every deer we get. It’s a beautiful thing to hunt and feed yourself this way, the most health, ethical way to eat.
EXCELLENT camera work catching the adrenaline hitting Doug after the shot. It's a real thing! To people who have never hunted, it really is a hard emotion to describe. Doubly so when you are on such a special trip that not everyone gets to do. There is happiness, of course, for the success but there is sadness. This might sound weird because the whole point was to go hunt and kill an animal but the taking of a life that has known more freedom than we will ever know, well it effects a person. It's a combination of sadness and respect for the life you took.
That's right. This is still my favorite episode for sure because of Doug's reaction. And you nailed describing that flood of emotion that comes as part of the identification of taking that shot and that life.
I’m the complete opposite to a weird degree. Getting to my spot, listening for twig breaks, looking for flicks of an ear or whatever else can give a deer away, that whole time I’m shaken and on edge. As soon as an animal pops out I’m still as can be. Honestly I wish it was the other way around, makes for some loooong sets!
I’ve been fortunate enough to meet Doug, hang out a couple times and spend a little time with him on a hunt. He is a truly golden soul and these videos amplify that fact. Cheers Doug, Steve and Mark!
I love watching Meateater and I sat down to watch this before going to move a trail camera here in WV. 3 things in this vid really made me appreciate Meateater even more. #1) The look Doug had after getting his caribou. You can tell it REALLY meant something to him, not just a kill. #2) When Steve and Mark take off after Steve's and Steve says, at least the least we'll see new ground. #3) When Mark says, that out there, you realize how small you are. Great video, congratulations and hopefully Meateater carries on for years!!!!
Doug and Steve are class acts. Doug's reaction made me feel all the emotions that happen when you take an animal. The joy, sorrow, gratitude... it is truly a spiritual experience. What a great episode. Great job everyone for portraying this so accurately and respectful.
Was so great to see Doug get a moment on Meateater after the previous seasons of giving first time hunters opportunities on his farm. Doug got one for the wall!
How good a series was this. No wonder meat eater is one of the best hunting shows. Steve you do such a great job at narrating theses. Keep up the good work
This video brings back alot of memories I guided caribou hunters in northern Québec near the leaf River It's amazing how much country they cover in a day
What an amazing experience. Hunting with friends in beautiful country. Appreciation for the land, the animals and the moments they give you. I'm looking forward to, someday, get the opportunity to hunt like this. Big props to Steve. His episodes are always filled with deeper meanings beside the hunt itself. Doug shaking shows you how an experienced hunter can also be humbled by the moment. Awesome job by the camera man. Great episode.
ANYONE ELSE noted that in the years of this fine show mr RINELLA has never EVER sounded or looked winded, or fatigued, has never complained about the weather; he just keeps delivering his respectful observations while sharing course content in hunting (soft chuckle).
I'm very moved by his emotions, these beautiful Animals are something to be treasured, and in this case a cuisine delicacy ,definitely not for the faint at heart 😊
Yeah just like other comments the guy's humility showed but the best part for me is how prepared Steve always is with the food prep I think I saw garlic also there was no doubt they were having a great meal thanks for sharing Steve
im glad how you made him wait to shot so the other little caribou wouldnt get hit also holding up on the sec shot he must of had a great deal of adrenaline rushing through him! awesome job and another great episodes...
Excellent video as usual. Love the respect that all of you have for the animals. Doug shaking says it all. Thanks for letting us hunt with you. Yours and Modern Day Mountain Man are the best ever video that shows what hunting is really about
After I shot my first big Red deer, I let out some tears. I know I’m a lot younger, but I just got overwhelmed by emotions and that adrenaline boost. Incredible feeling I still chase to this day. Respect to all hunters world wide🌿
It truly amazes me how you never give GOD the praise that one, creating the animals that you harvest. Two for allowing you the health and means to even be blessed for what you have.
Great, to see a "barren grounds" Caribou hunt in Alaska! Have you ever thought about creating a hunting video for boreal Caribou in Newfoundland? The last place in North America to legally hunt a boreal "woodland" Caribou.
If you are looking for a place to whitetail hunt and praying to see one come hunt public land with us in northern WI. 😂. Great hunt as usual. You have me longing for an Alaskan hunt some day.
Dang I just cooked elk shank like braised beef - next going to try Hot pot instead of the typical seafood 🍤 beef chicken meat !!!🥩 Archery opening is September 1st here in Washington for deer 🦌
His silence spoke everything we needed to know! This really embodies what it means to have respect and a great representation of outdoorsman!
Respect for nature not avoidance.
Couldn't be spoken any better, thank you for that beautiful explanation. ❤️ Truly wonderful

Respect for his friend and his friends' emotions in the moment. Well done!
That footage of Doug physically shaking is pure gold Jerry, GOLD!!!!!
Rinella knows when to not speak or otherwise interrupt his guest at certain key moments. He let's them soak in their experience. Great episode.
You clearly have never listened to his podcast 😅
No sombrero for Doug. After all the animals he has taken, humbled to see him so emotional. Well done.
I've never hunted before but seeing that guy shaking and silent, and breathing hard seems like the exact right emotions.

Hunting is very exciting. It's the reason why so many of us continue to go.

This is without a doubt one of your best hunts. Doug's reverance and respect for the animal is awe inspiring.

Dougs shakes made all the hair on my body stand up !!!! I know that feeling !!
What a beautiful experience to watch Doug take in the moment, you could feel his emotion!
A good friend in deed is a good friend indeed. Nice work boys, listened to the podcast pre hunt and had to watch it. Good bunch of boys!
1 good thing about UA-cam not showing the negative comment at the top is that it really shows you how good some of the hunting community really is.
This video brings back alot of memories
I guided caribou hunters in northern Québec near the leaf River

So beautiful to see Doug's reaction to his trophy! Amazing! I felt it the same!! ❤
This has always been my favorite episode. Way to go Doug

Great episode.
That brought tears to my eyes tbh. Congrats Doug!
Love the raw emotions after successfully downing game. It’s a raw but beautiful feeling well done for capturing that!!
Hooray, Doug! What a dream hunt. Nice work.
Really like seeing the smaller Savage, nice!
This is what it’s all about , love the passion, great episode

My stomping grounds! I love seeing my home on meateater!
I've hunted Forty Mile many times. It's great country.
Glad to see that Doug got buck fever when he took his caribou. That is a testament to what he was feeling at that moment. Good bulls for you all.
This is the epitome of what it means to be a hunter. Respect and love for the amazing animal that gave its life. Congrats Doug!
The respect and professionalism shown here takes my breath away l.

Probably the best episode Meateater has ever done.
Watching Meateater up in Grand Marais mi ! Keep up the outstanding work Steve n company! True inspiration brother! You are living the dream!
Doug's reaction is such a real one that I think most if not all of us hunters felt emotionally.
Love for the animal... love for the hunt.
Give me as many Doug adventure hunts as you can afford.
Also much respect for Doug durren ! Really relate to your farm/hunting approach
Whoa, heavy breathing before the shot and crazy shaking. Glad he made a good shot and didn't have a heart attack.
Very emotional hunt. I felt that.
Awesome hunt Steve. Good memories there.
It was a very powerful moment when Doug takes that caribou
When Doug stroked the caribou, made me think about how amazing their hair feels. It's really like no other animal, almost fur like.
Oh boy, almost broke down and cried
Those mountains look so amazing
This is what I like from you Steve, sharing us how you cooked and ate your harvest ❤
The take down adrenaline shakes ..never fades
Awesome hunt congratulations to all 3 of you on nice caribou 😊

Not a thing on earth that can recreate that emotion. Good on Steve to just sit back and let him live in the moment. Great kill.
Way to get one, Doug. Love.
They cut mine too!!! "Best day of my life" Best quote ever!!!
Steve is damn eloquent.
Poor Doug was so cold, hope he wears an extra layer next time! So perfect
Priceless
Fulfillment from pursuing and harvesting an animal is like no other. It taps into our natural hunting behavior to supply for our needs
Steve could not be more underwhelmed on this hunt. The business is really showing
It truly amazes me how you never give GOD the praise that one, creating the animals that you harvest. Two for allowing you the health and means to even be blessed for what you have.
Perhaps he doesn't believe in God? nobody should need to say something they don't believe just to appease their viewers.
Damn, boy! Asthma and gut issues prevent me from ever experiencing this, but I can get it here!!
Doug is the closest approximation to how I feel like when I go hunting.
Doug: lays down deep philosophy.
Steve: Yeah.
