In the book Aemond is said to look a decade older than he actually is, so the casting is perfect imo
It does not say he looks a decade older in Fire and Blood. When he was young it says he was "a precocious child" and when he had grown older "he had become a skilled and dangerous swordsman under Ser Criston Coles guidence, but he remained a wild and stubborn lad, hot tempered and vindictive."
This is peak GoT, right here. If Paddy Considine isn't at least nominated for an Emmy, then something is wrong with this world.

After his many long years of suffering, to hear Viserys whisper ‘my love’ with his final breath was just beautiful because you just knew he was with Aemma again.
King Viserys walking into the throne room was the most boss move I ever seen in Game of Thrones history! ✊🏾
Paddy is getting that emmy. Im calling it now. He just killed that role and everybody loves him.
The opening starts with Targaryen's in Valyria and breaks off into Aegon the Conqueror and his sister wives and all their heirs. When you see the blood stream split into two and fall over what looks like a cliff, it is Viserys and Aemma and then joins up to create Rhaenyra's mark. Her blood stream then joins Ser Harwin Strong's and then breaks off into three towards their three sons. Her blood stream also joins with Daemon's and breaks off towards their two sons. If you look at Queen Aemma's mark as well, as their ancestors, it fills up with blood meaning she is dead. Now that Viserys is dead, his mark will fill with blood after this episode as well.
I believe the show runners have said that Viserys is dying of leprosy.
@33:33, I start crying every time this part plays. Despite everything else Daemon stepped up to help his big brother climb those stairs.
Alicent's daughter, Haelena, has prophetic dreams. So make sure to listen to the words she whispers. Some Targaryens have this ability. In episode 6, she predicted Aemond would lose his eye. This ability drives some Targaryens to madness or alcoholism.
I heard that the writers of the show decided to make Haelena autistic so that might be the side effect of her ability instead of alcoholism or madness
Also, the actor playing Aemond (25) is actually younger than the one playing Aegon(27) but I get your confusion about that given their appearance
I really hope we don't lose Halaena to madness or the bottle.
Not gonna lie this episode definitely made me shed some tears. Probably my favorite of season one. 💜

Aemond didn’t eat a single thing at that table. You don’t break bread with your enemy. Problem in what Viserys wants- is maybe the adults can set aside the problems, but the kids never will because they grew up with it. You never air dirty laundry before kids. They weren’t there for the good times.
The dude playing Aemond is Ewan Mitchel- he’s absolutely killing the role, (he looks like he’s in his twenties, so not that old honestly- just compared to the strong boys he does. Daemon for sure looks older to me) there is no one that could play him better, he also has perfect resemblance to what he’s meant to look like. Book wise he was meant to look like Aegon the Conqueror
Paddy Considine deserves all the awards for his portrayal of King Viserys
The maester said that Corlys was stabbed and burns with fever from within ( blood fever, like Khal Drogo), but he isn't dead. The maester said in the beginning that he's basically fighting his fever and returning on a ship. And Viscerys suffers from leprosy, the disease is mentioned in the Bible.. it's basically skin rotting and the result is body parts having to be amputated 🥺🥺💞💞💞
We were literally all crying when Visaerys showed up one last time, and was a real, true, genuine, and GOOD KING! On this day, Visaerys is my King.
When Daemon put the crown back on his brother, it was not in the script but it was perfect.

The actor who plays Aemond is also in the show The Last Kingdom on netflix. I highly recommend it if you need something to watch while waiting for season 2 of HOTD, it's one of netflix's most slept in shows in my opinion!

@@Ihamdrumm3r Ragnar is my favorite character from any show, ever. I also think the supporting cast in Vikings is better. If I had to choose between Uhtred's crew and Ragnar's crew, then it's Ragnar all day. Floki, Rollo, Lagertha, Bjorn, Ivar, Ubbe, Athelstan, etc. Also the cinematography and choreography is better in Vikings too in my opinion. It's the only show I've ever watched that can be compared to GoT as far as the scale of the battles.

Aemond built himself up since that day to never be weak which is also a type of flaw of his, from the bullied to bully lol dudes a menace and we see from day one he knows duty and what’s more important- even at his age. That’s what the line “I dgaf about tourneys” shows us. We see his contrast to daemon as when daemon was his age he was arrogant and loved the things that didn’t matter in the long run (he was more an Aegon if we think on it, drank and had fun)
Let’s be honest Vaemond was right entirely. Rhaenyra keeps getting away with things, and sabotages herself often- those kids aren’t Valaryon, and he held that secret for 16 years lol he knew he would die but he made sure everyone heard. I love Rhaenyra, and it’s true Viserys loves her more than anyone.
What a performance from Paddy Considine in this episode, his finest hour.

King Viserys is the VIP of episode 8, or arguably the entire season
I know what you're saying about how Aemond looks older, but the actor who plays Aegon (27 years old) is indeed 2 years older than the actor who plays Aemond (25 years old). Both play characters ~7-8 years younger than they actually are.
Also, Viserys has a form of leprosy which has been eating away at him all season.
The actor of Criston Cole the Ageless is only 28. I don't know why they didn't age him up

I don’t think he died from the Milk of the Poppy, he was going and I’m glad he went through the effort of defending Rhaenyra.
Dragon dreams have always been nightmares and prophecies of doom. Doom of Valyria, Song of Ice and Fire, beast beneath the boards, Aegon wearing the conquerors crown. Viserys thought his was a good omen that he would finally have a son but it was dire warning of doom. It was a nightmare about his son stealing the crown and throne which caused a massive war that almost destroys House Targaryen, his family and the realm. His son was never supposed to sit on that throne and the Hightowers were never supposed to rule.
even dany's dream, everyone interprets the throne room covered in snow but its actually ashes. foreshadowing dany's destruction of kings landing!

Cracked me up when Jace was ready to fight Aemond like my man you is not that guy…. Daemon needs to spend some time training the boys cause they need to step it up. And Rhaenyra needs to teach them restraint around the bastard word

@@GlennShook I'm not convinced Jace is a Strong. I think he's Criston Cole's kid. I haven't read the books but I think it's intentional that Jace has a similar nose to Criston and lighter hair too. Luke and Joffery look more similar/ similar dark wavy hair.
After seeing all ten episodes I still feel this one just edges out them all. Paddy Considine was brilliant.

I had so many crying moments in this episode like when he refused the milk of the poppy to be clear headed, when he walked in to speak for his daughter, that thumbnail is everything 🔥♥️ I couldn't wait for you to watch this episode. it's like he only see her as his only child he never got over his wife that was the love of his life I think that's why he only looked at lil Rey Rey as his only child since he only had her with his one true love and the green goblin was just duty for the realm lol love the reaction major ♥️♥️♥️🔥

The entrance of King Viserys was the most emotional moments of the entire franchise
I must admit, Vaemond was completely correct... As he said, it was not a matter of ambition, it wasnt for power, he wanted to preserve his ancestors bloodline, which were one of the few to survive the doom of valyria. I was not happy when he died at all, but he could have played his cards better.
While watching this episode I was telling my boyfriend "I hope Vyseris throws a curveball" and he did! by walking through that throne room to defend his daughter

The part where Daemon helps Viserys and picks up his crown was not scripted. Paddy Considine and Matt Smith fought for that part to be kept in the scene. Lucky for all of us, it was. George R. R. Martin said he liked Paddy's Viserys better than his Viserys.

Rhaenys didn’t agree to the betrothals until the King changed the equation by arriving and saying as Corlys’s wife was the only word worth hearing. She was going to do what she thought kept her and her’s safest at first but Viserys came through for Rhaenyra major.

I do feel a bit bad for Alicent's four kids. Viserys seems to think of them more like grandkids than his sons and daughter. I don't know if that was because he was already old when Alicent had them and he felt he was done raising kids, because he had chosen Rhaenerya and trained her. And his guilt about killing her mother must be part of it.
But still it sucks for them that they basically don't have a dad, but he acts like a dad to their older half-sister. It's kind of the opposite of Rhaenerya's first three boys. They had Ser Harwin (bio dad), Laenor (adopted dad) and Daemon (step dad).
I mean Aemon is a little sht and Aemond seems to have gotten his male role modeling from Criston Cole (ugh) so maybe V just didn't like them. I actually feel the worst for Helaena. She is a dreamer and spits prophecies and Viserys wanted to be a dreamer himself. He never even noticed her. (The ONLY thing I like about Otto Hightower is that he seems to dote on Helaena. Like when he claps for her speech. It makes me cry.)
So, thing about Aemond is that the actor who plays him ( Ewan Mitchell) is two years younger than the one who plays Aegon, 25 and 27 years old. I think it's a combination of the scar, eyepatch, strong chin and long hair that makes him seem older.
This title should be "take a shot for everytime I say Aemond is old as hell, y'all" hahahhaha

Viscerys sores weren't just from the throne, he also had Leprosy.
Aemond looks older than his brother Aegon due to different facial features, training regiments and scarring on his face. The first thing to notice is their opposing facial structures, and it could also be the case that because of Aemond’s strict training regiment, he eventually outgrew Aegon. Others say that it is simply because of the scarring on Aemond’s face. He is also supposed to be similar to Daemon. Awesome job on the casting cause Daemon and Aemond do resemble one another.
The actor Paddy Consindine who played The Good King Viserys is a fantastic actor. I wish he was involved in more seasons but he owned the character perfectly. He’s been in two of my favourite series of the past handful of years. He played the Priest in Peaky Blinders and was amazing in that role as well. If you haven’t seen the film Dead Man’s Shoes, it’s a great movie that Paddy is in and it’s a great watch.

Aemond's actor is actually born in either 1997 or 2002 (both speculated, he has never confirmed his age) so he is quite young. Helaena's actress is born in 1998 and Aegon's actor is born in 1995. Aemond is around 19-20 years old in the episode. Also he is supposed to look canonically older than his siblings !

I FORGET Jaceras and Luceras are Aemond's nephews. I always want to put them in the cousin category. As Rhaenyra's brother, Aemond is sure enough their uncle. I wish they got along better. Then he could teach those boys to be better fighters. Nobody else seems to be training them. Who better to teach you than your crazy, skilled uncle?

Rhaenyra should have prepared Luce and Jace for such "strong" attacks. It would have been better, if Jace would thank Aemond for his "strong" toast and then raise a toast to past Hand of the King, who was such a loyal servant and helped facilitate the marriage between his mother and father, and who tragically died with his son. So lets hear for House Strong! Let Aemond choke on that cup.

God the scene where Daemon helps Viserys up the steps so he can sit his throne…. Aside from everything that was pointed out
1. YES. Daemon loves his brother idek why that was ever a question post episode 2.
2. Yes for all their disagreements and personality tension Viserys LOVES his brother.
3. It’s a great moment for them, it was another solid moment for Daemon.
But also consider aside from literally everything jerking the emotions about this scene…. Daemon is holding Viserys up by the arm with his right hand. His STRONG right HAND. It’s ALL Daemon I think has ever TRULY wanted… For Viserys to name him to the position of hand so he could do what he does best. Protect his brother. Protect his family. To be anything he needs to be and have the power and authority to do so no matter what he is defending his king and family from be it a rogue prince, a soldier of the stepstones, a monster, or even a makeshift walking stick for his brother to lean on when he is too weary to walk any further on his own… it’s everything Daemon has ever wanted, this moment right here.

Viserys: And why would I do that?

I believe in this story, Aegon is around 20-21, and Aemond is 19-20. And much like in life, the age difference between the two actors is similar. The guy who plays Aegon is 2 years older than the actor playing Aemond (27 and 25, respectively) Perfect casting.
Pretty sure Aegon is 20-21, Haelena is 18-19, and Aemond is 16 actually. He can’t be older than 16 since he wasn’t born before the 10 year time skip.

The throne cuts the kings that are said not to be worthy to sit upon it. The throne and its cuts were metaphors for his rein. The throne killed him. It's also said he may have had some form of leprosy.
Also, watch Alt Shift X here on UA-cam. He explains the bloodlines in the openings and what each sigil means and who it belongs to. It changes each episode I think.
This is the significance of the story Veserys told Alicent about the silver horse. It doesn't matter what color Rhaynara's children are, they are Targaryens. What is Veserys going to do? Disown his Targaryen grandson's because they don't have Velaryon blood?
I saw a meme that drew an interesting parallel... Viserys's mask, made of gold, covering half his face, resembled the gold that was poured on Denaerys's brother Viserys by Khal Drogo, causing his death. The gold covered the right side of both men's faces. How's that for history repeating itself? BTW, Ewan Mitchell, the actor who plays Aemond, is only 25. Tom Glynn-Harney, who plays Aegon, is actually 27. Ewan just LOOKS older.

My hate and disgust for allicent and aegon hell team green went thru the roof!! I was already team black but this episode insured it!! All that being said actress for allicent Olivia Cooke killing it
Why Alicent? Aegon, yes but since the younger actors this is the first episode where her actions though against who is panted as the protagonist are not seemingly from a place of pure evil.

Vaemond was power hungry. He was always jealous and talking shit about Corlys. He was the one bitching while battle plans were being made in the 3rd episode. Laenor called him "Master of Complaints" because he wasn't doing shit to win just blaming others. As soon as Corlys was too hurt during battle to rule he jumped at his chance to steal the driftmark throne. He even made a secret deal with his families enemies to side with them during the upcoming war as long as they gave him driftmark. If it was about blood he would of dropped the issue as soon as he found out about the betrothal of Daemon's and Laena's daughter to Rhaenyra's son. Their child would have Velaryon blood and sat driftmarks throne. Therefore keeping the house in the blood. Instead the king ruined his and the greens plans and he got pissed he lost his one chance to steal the throne. Daemon ended that traitors life. I think Vaemond realized he couldn't go home now either because when Corlys wakes up and finds out he betrayed his house and family he's done for anyways
I know I'm late to ent but if Lucerys got to marry Laena's daughter Rhaena and had kids then the Velaryon bloodline wouldn't go extinct. Also Rhaenyra's son's do have Velaryon blood through Rhaenyra's side because her grandparents were half Velaryon and Rhaenyra's son's are cousins to Laenor, they are Laenor's 3rd cousin's.

By the way, this will be the last major time jump for the rest of the show. This first season is written as a prologue of sorts for what's to come. I actually quite enjoy them. Cut the bullshit that we don't need to see and focus on what matters and what will affect future events.

Viserys loves all of his children, but not in the same way he loves Rhaenyra, because Rhaenyra is the image of Aemma, he has always loved Aemma and he always will. After Viserys lost Aemma he lost a part of him, that's why he's so sick, he let the illness carry on like it was a curse for doing what he did to Aemma. His great love was Aemma.

This is gonna be a long comment, sorry in advance, but i hope i can explain to you the intro properly. And i hope you'll appreciate it.
The intro is the Targaryen family tree simplified. The blood represents the lineage (marriages and children). Each circle is a person and has a symbol representing them, I'll explain what every symbol means between parenthesis. When the circle is pouring it means that this person is already dead. I'll try to explain who is who, and it can be a bit confusing, if you can, follow my comment with the opening from episode 8 (depending of the episode the intro is different).
- We start from Aegon the Conqueror (dragons ding in the Doom of Valyria) and his two marriages to his sisters Rhaenys (a dragon skull pierced by a spear) and Visenya (we don't get to see her symbol).
- Then, we follow Rhaenys's path since Maegor, Visenya's son, didn't have any children.
- We get to Aenys I (a dagger piercing a crown) and the blood stream goes two separate ways, symbolizing two of his 6 children, Jaeharys I (a golden crown) and Alysanne (a golden dress, i guess). The streams connect to each other because they got married.
- This union results in 9 streams because they had a ton of children, 13 in total but only 9 lived to adulthood.
- Again, two of these streams connects because Balon (hand of the king) and Alyssa (we don't see hers) married each other.
- From that union, we have another two streams: one for Viserys and the other for Daemon. At this point, the camera shifts to two ways depending of the episode, one for each son.
- If it shifts to the left, we're going to follow Daemon's bloodline. And afar, we can see, House Velaryon in light blue color. And their bloodline leading to Corlys (snake). And from him, Laenor (overflowed cause he's dead) connecting to Rhaenyra.
- If it shifts the the right, we're going to follow Viserys's bloodline. And afar, we can see afar House Hightower in green color. And their bloodline leading to Otto (hand of the king) and his children Alicent and Gwayne (not important right now)
- In this episode, we follow the stream leading to Daemon (dragon helmet) and from that, we have another two paths, the one in the right leads to his marriage to Laena (intertwined strings) and the on in the left leads to his marriage to Rhaenyra.
- We zoom in on Laena's circle and it overflows because she died. But it leads to 2 paths, the one that goes to the right will lead to their twin daughters Baela and Rhaena, and the one that goes down leads to a stream of blood that don't go anywhere. Symbolizing their third child that was never born.
- From that the camera zooms in and we can see Daemon's bloodline with his his marriage to Rhaenyra's, leading to their two sons, Aegon (a dragon egg) and Viserys (another dragon egg).
- The camera cuts to Rhaenyra (her colar pendant) and we start following her other bloodline with her marriage with Laenor. And this part is interesting because on the right, we can see a circle overflowed (Harwin Strong or Laenor Velaryon) and on the left we see another stream of blood coming (Sor Criston Cole). They all connect and go down. This is to represent the uncertainty of who is (are) this boy's father(s).
- Then we have Rhaenyra's 3 children: Lucerys (dagger), Jacarys (i don't know what it is, looks like a bird on someting) and Joffrey (We don't see his).
[ONLY READ THIS PART IF YOU ALREADY WATCHED EPISODE 9]
In this episode, we follow Viserys's lineage and his children with Alicent.
- In this path, be blood stream leads to Viserys (the same crown as Jaehaerys) and there are two streams connecting to it, one goes to his marriage with Aemma ending up in Rhaenyra's. And the Other goes to Alicent, the one we will follow.
- We zoom in on Alicents circle (7-pointed star), and we see four streams of blood coming from her.
- The short one leads to Daeron (a cup), he did not appear in the show yet, but has 8 years and is serving as cupbearer in Oldtown.
- The others lead to her other 3 children: Heleana (spider), Aegon (glass of wine) and Aemond (sapphire)
- Helaena and Aegon connects because they're married and leads to their 3 children: the twins Jaehaerys (a hand with 6 fingers) and Jaeheara (the other hand, cause she's a twin). And Maelor (he didn't appear yet, but has also been born)
And that's it, that's the whole opening explained.
- Then we cut to a long stream of blood, which is Rhaenyra's children with Daemon.
- They bifurcate and the left goes to Aegon and the right to Viserys. In the middle we have a structure and one stream is yet to come bellow it. This symbolizes Rhaenyra sixth child, still on the womb.
And thats it, that's the whole title sequence explained. Hope it wasn't too much confusing.

Great reaction! Others have probably touched on this, but King Viserys was only around 52-55 years old when he died. He was a leper (look up King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem-a real man whose story probably served as an inspiration for Viserys and the Dance that followed). The king certainly was of strong mind even at that time; his wits were dulled by Milk of the Poppy (morphine) that was administered to dull the intense pain of leprosy; not by his age. That’s why he was of sound mind but such weak body when he ruled for the final time on the Iron Throne. But not for leprosy, he could have likely ruled healthily and sanely for another 30 years.
Vaemond may have been right, but the king decreed that his grandsons were legitimate. To say otherwise is treason.
Also, the girls marrying the bastards is perfect. If the bastards had been legitimately Laenor's sons, and married, let's say, Stark girls, their children would be half Valeryon blood and half Stark. This way, the children will be half Valeryon and half Strong. The Valeryon blood continues through the wives and the name continues through the sons. The next generation sets it all right. It's the whole thing of disregarding the women's line again, and if Vaemond ONLY cared about the blood, he would be fine with this solution. The fact that he continued to protest it says he really just wants to be Lord of Driftmark. The rumor of Rhaenera's boys being Strongs is just an excuse, especially since it puts the Hightowers on his side.
Is it just me or did Aegon and Aemond grow up looking the way the other one should've?
