Mel, FYI, the sound deading pads you mention not only stop vibrations that you can`t hear whilst driving, they also reduce physical movement which can loosen or move internal cladding, joints near cut-outs, nuts, bolts, screws, glue etc.
never used it and never will never had a problem
It was very clear to me that Arnold was a retired hotelier from Thailand, and simply wanted to teturn there because he liked it. Those suggesting otherwise were clearly not paying attention.
Too right, those Muppets are just showing their ignorance (educated by the Bridget Jones movies no doubt). Mel's lived in Oz, I live in New Zealand (ex pom) - and it's not uncommon for pepple (seasonal workers or over 50s who are semi-retired) to winter it out in Asia. Thailand, Vietnam etc are our equivalent to Spain or Greece for the poms. As for disparaging comments about the Thai people, I'm sure that's not true for those who integrate and respect the culture.
Hi Mel, enjoy your videos, just correcting you re your comment about carbon monoxide being produced when burning gas. When gas is burnt it produces carbon dioxide, it only produces carbon monoxide when there is a lack of oxygen I.e. poor ventilation. This applies to any naked flame appliance including your log burner. The downside of gas appliances is that the produce water vapour.
Cheers Mel, thanks for taking the time to answer the question, just waiting on the 5th and final Gas fridge to be delivered, if this one is damaged, broken or both, we have looked at compressor fridges as our only alternative. Thanks for the solar v watts information, i think our set up will be fine, 20w tv, 50w fridge, few lights etc versus the 200w solar and battery set up....Cheers mate!!!
Mans there for the scenery, weather and food and lovely people 😂
a low power inverter uses alot of amps to start the fridge mel and can trip the inverter..
As always awesome video Mel!!!
Referencing using Cork in campervan: it is light, waterproof and insulating.
I used it while also using 'Bubblewrap' again inexpensive, insulating and light. Put up with spray glue (dealz). I did find a better way: FREE. Autoshops get parts delivered in bubblewrap and styrofoam wrap, which they then need to trash. A bumper comes in bubblewrap 'envelope' then wrapped in light styrofoam. They'd be fine letting you take it away. I put the bubble wrap up with glue bubbleside facing in ( for AIR pockets, which aids insulating value) then styrofoam, very thin sheets, on top. Works a charm lightweight clean waterproof and sound deadening insulation. ..free basically.
Well Mel, you have just contradicted everything Greg Virgoe has ben saying in his latest Ducato van build Master Class ‼️ Go watch, it's vantastic ‼️😀😀 He recommends deadening and a vapour barrier - very interesting and worth the watch. Each to their own, anyway.
Re the 'going back to Thai' I think at no time did he say he was 'going back' or if he did, perhaps ppl thought he meant after having a great time on holiday. It is very well known that it's a good place to find a nice lady-friend, and I think it is worth the warning. There is a vlogger called "Retired and living the Dream" all about life in Thai - well worth the watch ... 👍👍🙂
😂 it does make me laugh. So people have all the negative thoughts, comments. In stead of wishing him good luke .that's what I say. Niceone 1 Mel.
#waffleonawednesday hi Mel. I want to be featured as troll of the week but I can’t find anything bad to say about you or your channel. I think your videos are great and love what you do. Have a great week 👍🏻
4:10 it's unclear what the question is about "gas bottle heater", if you're right (heater powered by gas) I agree you're chancing waking up in the morning, (they're also huge for the heat they make) but he could also mean a woodburner made from a gas bottle. They tend to be made from 14Kg bottles so are about 5x the volume of yours so will hold a fire big enough to stay in overnight. A well made one is as controllable as yours or can be roared up till the top is glowing & you have to open the doors & let the snow in.
Greg Virgo is just building a van and it might be worth telling him how to insulate a van as I think he is a bit behind the times as he only built one van a few years ago and you are right the anti rattle pads or sound deadening is heavy and a waste of money ❤ great content Mel
Thank you so much for the comment on sound deadening. I follow a lot of people who have converted a van and i have never been able to get my head around the sound deadening thing. As you say, the insulation does exactly that. So thumbs up to you. 👍👍👍
thank you
Can I just say how much I love your waffle on a Wednesday videos..😊 You're so informative and it's helping me out on my camper build (which is only just starting) 🤓🤓
Keep on with the fab videos.
I'm so glad! Thank you for the positive feedback really appreciate that 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel great video, thanks for the discount code for vanlife festival but unfortunately uts sold out for this year 😢
Hi Mel wondering about your thoughts on converting a low loader van. Am thinking with a little window dressing from a distance you could make one look like a pukka motorhome. Have seen a few with removable bulkheads. Any drawbacks ?....Carry on camping mate.
You said he has already lived there in the video!!
I missed the troll of the week dude 😭😜😂
YYYYYEEEEESS 1st comment hi Mel and becky.
I looked at buying from auction before I bought one private. I couldn't belive the fees especially copart.
Copart at completely open about there fees they even have a fee checker on every lot on there website even a delivery fee can be checker too in my opinion the best price than anyone else’s
@@BigVanSmallWorld I agree Mel, but you can easily buy a lemon. If your local and can inspect the vehicle then it's less of a risk 👍
and it was motorhog and not copart I had my eye on a van locally. They've even changed name. And I've had a few too many beers 🤣
Hiya Mel. Just bin watching a vid of a van lifer But I got to ask How save R logbruner s. As thay was fitting one and there wall was smaller ing and almost court on fire. So how save r thay please. Mel. And y would it do that.
Great video as always Mel 👍 Will you be at this years Vanlife? It'll be our first one, can't wait!
Yeah I’m planning on going 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Nice one, hopefully catch you there at some point 😁
No sure if football is your cup of tea mate, but the mighty Chatham Town have only gone and won their league this season, so some form of silverware in the Medway Towns, up the Medway possy, your #1 fan here in Medway
That’s fantastic 💪👏👏👏👏🍻🍻🍻
Nooooooooooo mel. Love your woodbuner
Bit harsh on Shaun, he didn't mention anything about using the sound pads to stop panel vibration. Regarding trackers, I'll get one fitted primarily because most insurers mandate one *but* they're only really of any use once the van's off and gone. I'd prefer to stop the van leaving in the first place and think an after-market immobiser (ghost 2 or similar) is worth considering.
Hi Mel, can I please defend gas heaters. In my trailer caravan I have a gas heater installed from new by the manufacturer. It has a flue, and there are numerous small vents built into the floor, both to provide ventilation and also to prevent the build up of gas should there be a leak (butane/propane is heavier than air). Also, when gas is burned in a well maintained device carbon dioxide (CO2) is produced. Normally there would be little or no carbon monoxide (CO) emitted. So, in effect it works similarly to your wood burner (except that caravans probably have more floor vents). I am not against diesel heaters. Many people do very well with them.
One thing you won't want to do in Thailand is live in a Van. They only have 2 seasons. Hot and very hot.
Did he say he was going to live in a van
@@BigVanSmallWorld No. I am saying that anyone would find it difficult to live in a van in Thailand in general.
Solar panel to charge battery will be 100w 18 volt producing 5.5 amp 100w appliance needs 8.3amp so to power 100amp appliance 150w panel is needed
Hi Mel, Just wondered if you could point me in the direction of the workshop owner please? Would like to see if I could rent some space but can't remember which video you mentioned his details on!
Please contact Adrian here : ade68jones@gmail.com
He is in charge of bookings and seeing if people are the right critieria for booking in.

Hi Mel, I contacted Arnold straight after your video but he has not replied, do you have any other way of contacting him? Cheers
'Trooooll-of-The-Week' .... #OOPS!! 😵💫😵🥴 .....
So did Arnold do his research before going back again and did he have a great build. Did he sell his van prior to not doing his homework.. Has he ever been there before this decision..
watch the video again and listen to the conversation
You're getting your money's worth out of that top aren't you 😂🤪😁
🤣😂😅
Im a peasant
People don’t listen and watch videos properly. It was perfectly made clear what Arnold was doing…
Thank you for taking the time to comment
Mel it has fck all to do with eney one. Good luck to him . Bless.
Don’t forget your E’s Mel 😏
Greg vergo did a great video explaining the facts all about the soundproofing and insulating a camper van . Well worth a look at.
He has started a new camper build. And yes. With sound deadening and a vapour barrier.
He did , it’s a bit like Mel calling Greg Virgoe the father of #vanlife a dickhead.
Greg's new video is great for new van converters to follow along.
Mel! Your thinking of taking out your wood heater and putting in a wardrobe????? You can't get any heat from a wardrobe mate!!!! Why loose the wood heater at a time when I'm thinking of putting one in my van???!!!! ????
I’m going to try and make it swappable stove in winter wardrobe in summer 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Ok so the wood heater is worth installing? I should check out the video you did on that a ways back...cheers!!
#waffleonawednesday. Mel I have used 6mm dodo mat and 50mm plastic bottle insulation to insulate my van plus a vapour barrier reflective I know you think there a east of money but it was cheap from toolstation. I’ve not used the dodo mat as sound deadening but to keep the cold metal touching the plastic bottle insulation
