It's amazing how much Selah and Josiah look alike, and it's amazing how much Micah and Hezekiah look alike. Two sets of twins!! Another great informative video, Mike!!!
That seems like a hard decision to make…I would be completely messed up because I’d play with them all! From pet to table, I’d make a terrible farmer!
I've been a vegetarian with occasional fish for almost 20 years....meat is not essential to live! Every year I get a physical and am in excellent health, 57 and no issues. We have a small homestead and do fine on veggies and eggs!
With all due respect NOT ALL peoples digestions and biological make up can live and thrive on a vegetarian/vegan diet. This is a scientific fact. Glad your body can thrive on it . @@mrmrlee
I am a VEGAN. If I had farm land. I would have chicken for fertilizer. I love animals way to much. I am not judging anyone. I respect this family and many others. GOD BLESS EACH of YOU. I love you and Pray with you in JESUS'S NAME AMEN HALLELUJAH. Thank you Poly face Farm
And Mike and LADY L AND FAMILY 💖✨🌹🥀👍🛐✝️🀄
It's hard with chickens ( roosters) so hard to do
I assume you go in to it knowing this is the plan. I’m sure it is hard. But I like meat so I would be able to whilst crying at first I’m sure! 🙏🏼❤️
I couldn't butcher my hen turkey last year. She survived 2 Thanksgivings & 1 Christmas. I was injured last year and I'm healing still this year. I went out Saturday with a 22 because I don't have the setup for turkeys either. She died in the pen so there was no stress on her. She's chilling in the fridge right now. Hopefully tomorrow I get to canning turkey. I ate the local VFW this year and they have Christmas dinner on Christmas as well. Free to any member. A family member was a veteran of a foreign war and that's how I got to be a auxiliary member so I didn't serve. I did serve my country as a trucker for 25 years. 48 States, 4 provinces of Canada, over 2 million safe miles.
Mike, I went down this road two years ago and it had been years , actually a few decades, since I had butchered anything and I had an extremely hard time but like you, I said a prayer over each animal when it came their time and we all got through it but I gotta say brother, I just don’t think I can do it again. I’m just at a spot in my life that I just don’t want to be the one taking the life anymore. Once it’s beyond that point, I have no issues but that ultimate job has become increasingly hard on me. One helpful hint tho for next time you process and find that your cones are a bit too small, take a 5 gallon bucket and get one of your hole saws about a 2” I think I used and drill the hole in the center of bottom of bucket. I used a conduit clamp to screw the Dickey handle to a 6x6 post that was cemented in the ground. Put the turkey in the bucket like you would a cone with its head sticking through the hole and then I made a quick clean cut in the throat. This was bout the hardest thing I’ve ever done as this was the first time I’d ever processed alone. It was easy on the bird which made it much easier on me ! The bucket works great on the bigger birds brother and I’m proud of you for getting through it!!! It’s not an easy task but it is a necessary task on the farm! I sold my farm unfortunately this past spring tho which is why I may not need to do it anymore but I do miss raising the turkeys!!! They are incredible birds and it’s impossible to raise them from day olds without getting attached. They are just really neat birds and love to interact with folks on the farm and I love that!!!
I’m proud of ya Mike!! Both you and the entire family!! The kids don’t understand they but will in another 20 years about how incredibly valuable the education you and mom are giving them in that small farm!! It’s worth much more than an education from Harvard, and is actually absolutely priceless!! I grew up on my grandfathers farm where my mother and her siblings also grew up and I didn’t see it till years later but it’s absolutely priceless, especially growing up next door to Amish farms so I had the added education of learning typical western culture but then also the Amish culture which today, 50+ years later, I still find myself using many of the Amish ways today and I could not pay for that type of education with any amount of money!! Take care brother, be safe out there! If you need pics of how I set those buckets up for processing turkeys just let me know and I’ll be happy to send them email or whatever
So I am in my early 70s now and find it very difficult to kill anything anymore, even things like spiders in the house which I am terrified of - we try to catch them and put them outside. Maybe it's because I am so much closer to the end of my life than the beginning that I find all life to be more precious. I do think that most homesteads raise their livestock with the utmost care and do try to make their passing quick and unexpected and honestly, I wouldn't have such trouble eating that a little. But I definitely couldn't do it myself. Bless you and your lovely family.
You look like you’ve been up a chimney, Micah! 😂
And, turkeys change the colors of their head for their mood. Mad, happy, & sad.
They sound like geese flying overhead!!
They did!
Your family did a WONDERFUL job raising those beautiful birds!.. Enjoy all your hard work and thankful they lived an amazing life on your farm. Harvest day is always the hardest yet also the most rewarding to be able to provide for your family wholesome food that you have raised. So amazing to raise your family knowing where their food comes from and the respect for the animals you raise. I don't know if its an option for you but we always keep a breeding trio so we are not dependent on the hatcheries (just in case!)
That is our thought about being able to hatch out our own.
I worked on a turkey 🦃 farm for 20 years, I loved the sound when walking down the yard, but when they were all gone, it was a strange feeling not hearing them, I do miss going to the turkey farm 🦃🦃🦃🦃
Last year we raised broad breasted white turkeys. I had no idea they follow you like dogs and are happy when you pull in the driveway and they recognize you. Had no clue they have more personality than chickens and ducks combined. Processing day was pretty difficult as I am a city boy and raised who is a homesteader with WIFI now. This year we are raising red bourbon turkeys. They are gorgeous. We can't wait for spring to hatch their poults and keep some and sell some.
What did the turkey say to the hunter? "Quack quack" lol. Happy Thanksgiving and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister.
That little man has your sense of humor.😅 he looks like a miner.😅
I never feed my poultry grit. They look for it on their own in the outdoors. I would assume it might be needed when poultry are confined without out door access. I bought a bunch of hatching eggs this past summer, but out of 36 eggs, only three hatched, though half were fertile.
So good to involve the young ones in raising their food. Lifelong lessons. You’re such a caring farmer. ❤
Mike the Lord has blessed you with a good woman, and a beautiful family
My son has a saying….you get what you get and don’t throw a fit….it is how he stops the comparison conflicts with his children.
May the lord bless and protect you and your family
Good video Mike! Your children are amazing workers. They know so much about farm life and what they don't know they seem eager to learn. I can only imagine how difficult it is to give the turkeys, or any animal, their worst day. You did well and you are guiding your children well. Hope your Thanksgiving was good and Gods' Blessings to each of you! 🦃
How the skills of driving of your old daughter my wife said she's becoming a beautiful young lady God bless your family and you
You raised fine Turkey Birds and although it's difficult someone has to do it. Glad you had a Happy Thanksgiving and could share your hard work with family and friends. A Blessed Thanksgiving to you all. Your prayers ot Thanksgiving to God will definitely benefit you in the future. He gives us all good things. Amen. Alleluia. ❤🎉
MIKE you raised your turkey's with much love and respect.
My bro/.sister in law had one pet Turkey on their Land. He ran anywhere he wanted
He slept in the barn with the horse's. He was so handsome and sweet. They had cow's too.
I love animals way to much.
I am a VEGAN. Like your shirt said, Give more than you take.
That is your family. I Enjoy watching YOUR FAMILY VLOGS THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOURSELVES WITH ALL OF US.
GOD BLESS EACH of YOU.
Did, your daughter get more earnings? I'd love to buy her some. What kind does she like? Colour's, Is she allergic to something? I love you. FROM SE MICHIGAN 🛐🛐🛐✝️✝️✝️🀄🀄🀄🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Finally, Josiah is getting involved in learning new skills. He will thank you, later in life.
Whereas Micha is definitely ready to do physical labor.
They have such different personalities. Nonetheless, they both have such kind hearts.
So good to involve the young ones in raising their food. Lifelong lessons
It has to be hard to kill the animals you’ve taken care of so long. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Day! ❤
So cute the interaction between Mica and his baby brother. To respect the animals we kill, or have killed for our food, is utmost important
Sorry - had to miss several parts of the video because UA-cam took up so much time with nonsense, boring, and extremely long commercials that we have no idea what they were trying to sell. After 30 or 31 seconds we either find other things to do or turn off the sounds like thousands and thousands of other do or just skip. Cheats the people who purchase commercials when their commercials are so long.
Just skip those long commercials
We processed a few turkeys this year. We didn't have one for Thanksgiving, but we did have them for other meals earlier this year. For safety, we tied the feet to the plank behind a hand made kill cone. Those claws can be dangerous! Thanks for sharing your turkey journey. I love the Spanish black as well as the blue slate. Turkeys are great birds and I love their personalities.
I always love how much respect you give God's creatures in your care. It is truly appreciated and inspiring.❤
😢Was a young farmer in a past time...long past. The hardest thing was raising a calf for prossessing. I couldn't eat a bite of that meat🤦 I actually cried and just couldn't do it.
Thank you for doing your part to raise competent, responsible and polite future citizens of this beautiful nation of ours, we are in desperate need of as many as we can get 💖💫 ps, you can dramatically increase the shade area on the pasture roof by adding some fold down panels on the sides that you can prop up with extensions off the vertical supports.
We have four turkeys now to which we raised from babies, although I live on an animal sanctuary and had no intention of killing any of our animals, I think I would have a really hard time with the turkeys. They turned out to be some of the sweetest things they follow us everywhere, they have never been aggressive. We can pick them up even the ones that were grownups when we got them they make the most beautiful little whistling sounds, and I love how the toms make that drumming sound they get along with an actually grew up with little baby chicks and Ginny fell, and now they all hang together.
It helps if you name them, we have 4 turkeys and I call them Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also name our steers after cuts of beef. We are teaching our granddaughters where their food comes from. They help us garden and gather eggs from our chickens.
I like how you handled this video. Im glad you have heart and give thanks.
Your videos are always a lot of fun. I have heard that turkeys are hard at the start. Your children are a lot of help a real blessing.
You can dance Mike. I can just imagine how you used to burn up the clubs😂.
Enjoyable watching, very informative, they grow so fast, which one will end up on dinner table😮😢🌲
I have a new fondness for turkeys as they seem to be real social beings. But, I sure like Thanksgiving turkey. Mixed feelings. 💞🎄💞
My mom years ago bought some chicken and we had it for supper. Well the people who pluck it before it gets to the grocery store, did not do a complete job. So now I can see why or how that would happen.
I learned something so I totally understand a lot more now. 🤔🙂
Great video! Entertaining and informational
Mike is it comparable cleaning a chicken too, than a Turkey. Because we will be doing that in the future. GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY.
Yes, It is the same just bigger than a chicken.
Your boy's are growing so fast and very helpful. You are blessed.
Turkeys are special birds. Mine think they are puppies. I could never kill mine but I did have to put a very large rooster out of his misery. I made a extra large killing cone out of hardware cloth and zip ties. You can fold any edges to keep from getting scratched and it works great.
Wheelchair wheels reclaimed from used wheelchairs work great! Durable & support lots of weight. Blessings
You two are teaching those kids very well with different skills
Good dancing Mike, 😂😊
Thanksgiving blessings dear people
Well done Mike. You care well for your animals and provide wonderful food for others. You respect and appreciate the lives that are given up to feed your family. Great video. ❤️🙏🏻Val C
This is beautiful.
Oh my goodness I’m not sure I wld be able to process them myself…well done Mike…hope you all had a wonderful blessed Thanksgiving❤
Happy thanksgiving from Tennessee
Love your channel ❤❤
Good morning, fam ❤
Hope you and your family had a wonderful thanksgiving and you did enjoy your turkey ❤
I am thankful for your family. You teach us all so much!
God Bless! Carmen
Awesome video and a rockstar parent!!! Hello from Vancouver island Canada!!
Looks great guys. MMMMMMM. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome video God Bless you and your family
Great idea Lacey on the butter and cheese cloth
💚 Hi Fit Farmer Family! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃. Thanks so much for the turkey-raising experience from start to finish. It would be challenging to do the butchering..especially the first one..good job! Thanks for sharing. 💚
Great video and I too understand I have been raised around farm life with my family I have been attached to my chickens cows and pigs I don’t eat pork but my uncle raised them and used to love playing with all the baby animals over time watching them grow and go to market was hard as a child to see year after year I do understand the process but it’s still a lot to take and yes thanks God for. Suppling our wants and needs
Barn looks great! So sorry to hear about Figaro.☹️
You gave them a good life.. remember that
Those turkeys had a wonderful life on your farm. You took such good care of them! I am thankful for those of you who do the butchering, because I know I would struggle with it.
All setting is not easy. I told my sister when we do have animals to process that I would have to have some with some bands that I would want to keep as breeders or pets but not a lot I do understand that they are meant to be our food. But for instance if I have turkeys I would want to have at least a time and a minimum of three females because there are some females not only do they have a very mellow personality but there are some females that make excellent mothers and are Broody all the time and will pretty much hatch anything and raise anything lol.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 Growing/Raising your food really a privilege and all the best to you and your family. What you share is the reason why I support my local farmers, I don't have the space to do what you do. I can support the people who do what your doing; who in my opinion deserve my dollars over any big box store. If your worried about the quality of the food your eating, look at what you can get to. Take Good Care
Hey how cool you're a Great dancer 😍- what amazing children you are raising - well done to you both. Salah's friend is so cool & such a good friend to always help out. Well you got through it - which one did you Pardon ??? Great video Mike- Cheers Denise- Australia
Sounds great
BLESSED THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. Love and PRAYING with you and your family in JESUS'S NAME AMEN ✨💖🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀
OH MY GOODNESS MIKE....YOU MADE ME CRY....ABOUT THE TURKEYS!!!!
I love your channel it's a real good channel to learn stuff from but be sure to think the turkeys for giving their life for you and your family and be sure to thank the Lord for giving you the and the knowledge to raise them amen 🙏❤
❤❤❤
Wow!! Lacie... that Turkey in the oven looks delicious 😋....
Love from South Africa
Good job 🎉
Mike, great to as usual 👏 👌 👍
Sometimes I think you are full of malarkey 😅
Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving turkey.
We went to my brother's house and enjoed time with family. I am very thankful for the Godly parents and family God gave me.
Keep a couple for pets!
I need my man to be like this ❤
Wow, what a job movin all those turkeys 1 by 1. I'll remember this when I'm moving my chickens. ... It could be worse.
Mike, those were some gorgeous looking turkey's I bet they tasted amazing.
So good!
We ate thanksgiving on Thursday and will eat Christmas at Christmas.
Do you have a video on how to use the drill plucker. For us very small homesteaders.
Just start naming them Thanksgiving and Christmas 😂 ❤
I have found it difficult to find cones big enough....I use a different system. But if you must have cones, take a 5 gallon pale, cut out the bottom and make a slit up the side and fold the pail into cone shape big enough and then secure to a 2x6 or something like that. I never use a plucker, always hand plucked....by the time you wrestle with the plucker and the drill , you could have the bird plucked. And a turkey plucker is expensive...so hand plucking it is. Starting at the bottom of a scalded turkey, Use your thumb and drag it across the surface of the skin into your outstretched hand....you will clear a huge patch at a time....will take no time at all. I can do two 20 - 30 pound birds in just under an hour by myself from the deed to chill.
Try turkey on a smoker. I did last year. it takes around 10 hours and tastes phenomenal.
Sukkot is my biblical “Thanksgiving.” When I came out of the world and its traditions, that included all of its traditions. I can’t say I miss them one bit. I prefer to focus on understanding the Biblical feasts better each year. We won’t be observing “Thanksgiving” in the Kingdom!
Nice job. What was the weight of your biggest bird?
Hens can gobble too, they do it mating season. You have to let them live to be old enough to mate. Hens will strut then as well and fight to establish dominance. Let them live and you will learn more about them,
Great video I think next year I’m going to smoke one or two😁
Try less turkey's at a time. Have a new group started before harvesting the grown turkeys. With new turkeys waiting in the wings makes harvest easier on the mind.
next time you raise turkeys for processing you might keep out a tom and a couple of hens and try to brood your own:)
We did.
❤
I would never be able to do it😞
Love your family and faith!💕
What did you do with the giblets?
We were wondering why you didn't keep a couple of hens and a gobbler to raise your own future turkeys?
I thought shoshugiban was supposed to be oiled in the last step?🤷🏼♀️ Maybe that was what you called stain?
I love turkey… One year I decided to see what the fuss over brining a turkey was about so I tried it. I’ve never cooked one without brining since!
Yes they used tung oil as the finish.
Thank you for not giving them names i left another channel for that reason
We thought we would raise rabbits for meat. We ended up with 14 pets, which we eventually rehomed.
Sale them to people
what kind of creatures lurk in the shadows ?
l 💜turkeys.
