In this stream highlight video we talk of many things, from KonoSuba to Kenichi, Lovecraftian waifu anime to that time a Transformer had a name that was an insult in the UK... The only people who accuse authors of like/being okay with the things they write are either uncomfortable with what they're reading or secretly like/are okay with what they're reading and no one can convince me otherwise.
I feel like an ironically potent rebuttal on that would be to take DigiBro point him towards the first few episodes of Dragonball, note he's endorsed said series in the past, and declare that means he serious face endorses everything Goku does and start categorizing off thing like the pat-pat gag in the least charitable light possible. At which point clearly DigiBro and the zillions of other people who enjoy Dragonball needs to be buried under the jail.
@jebe4563 I don't know who DigiBro is. I'm mostly just talking about people who go, "Oh, you put something controversial or morally questionable in your story. That must mean you endorse those things. Like those people who claim that a depiction of a dark or heavy subject such as murder or sexual assault is a justification of those actions being done in real life. Hope that clarifies things.

He was apparently a Brony who became a semi-important AniTuber circa 2013 that rose to prominence with commenting on Psycho-Pass, who then sunk back into irrelevance in years since. I honestly haven't really paid attention to them since somewhere around 2015.
24:42 I remember in my teens seeing a creator on this platform used Tumblr to say that you can only write stuff with you in it. she explains it as your villains can only be what you perceive as villainous, and your heroes can only be what you perceive as heroic. Traits, talents, and flaws are only so from your perspective. She essentially was saying this to say you can't separate the art from the artist. I'm not going to share who she is publicly because she scares me but even back then I thought that was really restrictive. It's essentially saying that you can't write outside of yourself, can't experiment with ideas outside your comfort zone. I think this is the mentality most common with critiques of MT and its author.

ikr, it was for me as well when it sprang to mind during this stream. I didn't watch it when it first came out but it's still been at least 5 years. I kinda feel like watching it again, it was cute!
Part of me has to wonder what the people who pearl clutch over Rudy would do if they watched say the first few episodes of Dragonball, Urusei Yatsura, or Maison Ikokuku for that matter.

In the late 1960s-early 1970s Jack Vance had a series of science fiction novels called Planet of Adventure, about a man who crash-lands on an alien planet and has to find a way back home. The second volume was Servants of the Wankh.
And in the late 1990s-early 2000s Buffy the Vampire Slayer had Spike, a British vampire who constantly swore using British idioms...which went uncensored on American broadcast TV.

I've really got to try to remember to pay attention to Twitch so I can maybe catch one of these livestreams sometime. Seems like a fun time! I'm pretty hyped for the return of Konosuba (Yunyun best girl), but not as much as I am for Yuru Camp. The latter is one of my favourite "just before bed" anime...so cozy, hit the pillow with a smile.

Haiyore Nyaruko-san and Sucker For Love: First Date definitely have an interesting interpretation of eldrich beings.
Could you provide an example of SAO poorly depicting a normal teenager? Curious about your perspective as a writer.
The first example that springs to mind is when Liz gives that speech to try to persuade all the gamers to help out in Alicization part two. Both the things she chooses to focus on and the way everyone reacts to it just feel contrived, rather than how actual gamers, especially young ones, would act. If you contrast how weird the way all of those real world characters act to how relatively well written the fantasy world characters like Alice and Eugeo are written, it shows that Reki is better at inventing characters that are consistent with a fantasy world he made up, than at writing regular people in a (close to) real world setting.

As a Transformers fan it's frustrating that a british swear for a promiscuous woman is the reason the name of one of the dinobots got changed to Slug.
Since it did get up in the talks. Yeh, said dinobot's main attack is a flamethrower so yes the original name fit.
One thing I hope you'll be able to speak to with the upcoming video is the... paradox that as much as people like to fuss at flawed characters, they tend to be more popular and persistent.
While Kimagure Orange Road is very much a solid series, it would be entirely fair to say the "flawed" Urusei Yatsura it co-existed with had much more of an impact. Similarly while Fist of the North Star was a solid series with legs, the "flawed" Dragonball that co-existed alongside it in Shonen Jump is what plotted the path forward for what that magazine is known for.
Sailor Moon's protagonist is pretty much the embodiment of being "flawed" and yet it is Sailor Moon as opposed to pretty much any other Mahou Shoujo show before or since that became a massive International Phenomena. Shinji is _deeply_ "Flawed" by the associated standards and yet the character and associated series have had very persistent relevance. To pick a more recent example along those lines pretty much the entire cast of Konosuba is explicitly written to be _deeply_ "flawed" and yet we're going on a decade since it originally started and it's had some legitimate persistence in an environment where a lot of shows simply don't.
Part of the whole point of stories is to provide the reader with a means to play with something, and well... People are as a rule flawed, and the trends speaks to there actually being something of a Revealed Preference for Flawed Characters. I'm not confident it's actually well understood why that's the case, but it is a thing.
Let me also add one additional thing along those lines, although in a very different aspect. IMNSHO Assassination Classroom is a very solid series, with a surprising amount of depth. For example part of the premise of the series is that the students need to kill the Teacher to Save the World. At first glance a person would be forgiven for considering this an absurdly silly off the wall thing, but...
If you watch the series, and have the ability to go deeper, you come to appreciate the writer is clearly very aware of and tying into a very important MetaNarrative with that. While intentionally played up for effect the underlying concept is simply true. In order for a child to grow into a mature and productive adult, they need a lot of care and assistance but that also comes with the recognition that ultimately also needs to fall away to leave them to stand on their own two feet.
In turn while the self-aggrandizing perception of a teenager will tend to see Saving the World as involving these big crazy things, like Tolkien speaks to with his body of work a lot of the most important things people do are very simple, mundane, and small things. And so while "Kill the teacher to save the world" on its face is absurd, it's also simply true when you dig into it...
And thus while the child doesn't kill their teacher in the literal sense the series plays up, the sentiment is simply true. In turn I don't think it was coincidence that the author has the main character having to deal with a parent who embodies the Pathological Mother, and while things are played up for effect none of that is executed in a heavy handed manner. It's executed so a person can just have fun with it, while their mind plays with those elements in the subconscious layer, just like a person can recognize the subtext and appreciate how its worked with. Which in turn speaks to why for a lot of people that ending hits hard.
And that's one of the funny things about fiction especially. Work that is actually very meaningful, deep, and well executed when parsed out, on a shallow reading can at first appear to be none of those things.
Well, Rui Tsukiyo does have another work with a (sort of) mother fetish. The Demon Lord's Street (Maou-sama no Machizukuri) is about a young demon lord who turns his lair into a flourishing city in order to gather psychic energy from the good vibes of the humans who move in...and defends it from the other demon lords by creating an army of gun-toting lolis. His main love interest is an older demon lady who's a mother figure to him.
Digibro is now Trixie the Golden Witch and has mellowed out quite a bit since transitioning.

It took me a bit of time away from Digibros content to realise how bad she was about the "psychoanalyse the author through the work" bit. Now it's basically a trigger if I hear it videos, sending me into barely controlable rage. By which I mean I block the channel from being recommended.
Having now read all, currently 7, volumes of the Assasin Isekai I can say trying to get into the authors head through this series is beyonfmd ridiculous. It's not like it feels churned out, but it's clearly not Rui Tsukios baby or anything.

What would OF look like for your virtual model? Would that be the creation of lewd merch, or the semi-hilarious concept of selling lewds and other things of the model? I'm not necessarily suggesting it as a method of relieving financial troubles, just confused about the concept.
Well, I meant doing it as my actual self was something I didn't want to do, I'm not sure anyone would pay to see lewds of a 3D model...

@@NatalieXHunter I mean, the model is already at your disposal and would function as a buffer between you and that. It's sort of a niche market, but as you're fairly popular and don't have a face reveal, there would be more appeal to it than otherwise. At this point though, I'm probably overanalyzing a joke made in passing, unless the financial issues are that severe. I've yet to catch up on backlog. That channel update was in the the Sweet baby vid or the Matt Walsh response?
The Matt Walsh one. But yeah, I suppose that's true, though I'd need new textures for my model because where I'm always fully clothed, I actually look like a Barbie doll naked - no nips or, er, anything else! Didn't seem necessary to use that kind of skin texture. But also, I have shown my face quite a few times on Twitter, I've just never done it on YT or Twitch, and probably won't until maybe a major milestone like 100k subs. I'm pretty camera shy.
@@NatalieXHunter Not necessarily. You could start off low budget for it and reinvest in new textures from there. Ah, that makes sense. I only follow on YT and catch VoDs occasionally. I'll check out the Matt video once I've finished this VoD in a couple of days.

@@NatalieXHunter agreed 💯👍😄 I wish they anime was completed like the manga was..but if I recall correctly the reason they stopped was the because the JP VA for miu was in a crash sadly she didn't make it and since she wasn't present anymore they didn't want to continue without her..which I fully respect and glad..but still it sucks it happened all together 🥺
