    Borris I feel you so much in this video. I hit 315 and it kind of woke me up and made me realize I needed to make some changes in my life. I lost my drive and passion for what I wanted to do in life. Now I'm almost down 60 pounds..it hasn't been easy, but it has been well worth it. Remember we love and support you, Borris. Keep it up homie!

    Wow James 😢I can relate to sooo much of this!!! ...right down to the flat feet too! Obesity runs on my fathers side and sadly he’s still battling it. We grew up with comfort food, my mom always baking, not much emphasis or early teaching about healthy living. But I say to myself, hey I was taught about family, love and God. I’m thankful my parents equipped me with all that!!! And so now as an adult, I’m teaching myself healthy living ☺️ ...I completely commend your determination, drive and your success!!!! You are accomplishing the goals you’ve set!!! You are such a bright spot here, thank you for the videos you make and the message you always send!!! PS when you go to Alaska if you see a moose - take a pic for me ☺️!!!

      You are so right, while health was a struggle, I am so thankful for the strong values and faith that my family instilled in me. My relationship with God has helped me through so much and words can not explain how thankful I am to them for raising me in the faith. I am happy to share my struggles so that others can find hope. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement Jenn! Last year we saw a lot of moose, so I am sure I can get one ;)

    Hi James! Again, great video, great topic. We appreciate your honesty! Its so hard to take responsibility for our own actions but its a great step in the healing and growing process. I'm currently taking back my life from obesity and depression! I'm fighting every day but I also needed to start my journey by acknowledging how I got here in the first place. Ultimately life left me in a hard place and I used anything that gave me some semblance of pleasure whether it was alcohol, tobacco, food, video games, isolation, etc. All of those things, while filling you with temporary pleasure, do absolutely nothing to help you grow stronger as a person, in fact they are crutches! When you take all of those things away, you still need to deal with what you've been avoiding in the first place. While all of our stories may be different, we are all alike in many ways. I am now excited to see my former glory return, with the added wisdom and strength I lacked before my trials. We will be better in the long run for fighting through these challenges. Peace Bro!

      Happy to hear that you are regaining control of your life and overcoming those hard trials. I will be contacting you like we discussed on a previous comment. Just have a lot going on right now, but I would still love to get you on Basement Brothers sometime. Once again, glad to hear you are making the life change! Thank you for sharing and also supporting me through my journey as well. :)

    everyone has there own battle to fight, you just need to learn how to overcome it. You will lose weight, keep pushing forward and you will get positive results. I'm was overweight and lost 40 pounds in the last 5 months. Genetics plays a big role in body mass but don't let that determine what you can do. You have some many possibilities, it's all mental. Anyone can change, you just have to believe in yourself. God bless you and I know you will do it.

    James, what all did you try before having the success you have now?

    • @JamesJansen
      @JamesJansen  6 років тому +1

      In elementary and into middle school I did a program that was involved counting calories and exercise. It was through a hospital in Madison I think. Then when that ended I fell back into old habits. Tried implementing it again in later years, but then found some success in the Atkins diet in High School and lost 50 lbs. This ended when we went on a vacation to Florida and went off the plan. I got hooked on carbs again and didn't go back to it when I got back. In College I tried doing a juicing diet, but found it difficult to stick to since it didn't really fill me up.
      I think the biggest factor that made me fail in most of these was the fact that they either didn't have a plan for after the diet was over and I was not making them a lifestyle change, so I would fall back into old habits. The difference with this time was the fact that I changed the way I view food and how I use it. Thank you for the question Trey!

    Hey, check out boogie2988 if you haven't, if you want a youtuber who's going through similar struggles. He also started out weighing over 500lbs. He's lost about 100lbs I think? Not really sure. He's somewhat stagnating in his weight loss right now. Anyway, he had weight loss surgery, but I think his videos are still very helpful and informative.
    (Disclaimer, he's not a purely weight loss youtuber. He has a lot of other content other than his weight loss.)

    • @JamesJansen
      @JamesJansen  6 років тому +2

      Thank you for pointing me in his direction, I have seen some of the videos from when he was first going through the process. Very interesting UA-camr and I am happy he is getting the help he needs. I know how the stagnation goes, working through my own right now :P I will be sure to check out some more of his stuff! :)

    Your parents are to blame. In my house I never had any juice (only in partyes) at lunch or dinner allways water. Every day eating soup, fish everyday (sometimes meat) and there was never chocolate or bad food in the fridge or on the storage area, me and my sister couldnt get fat even if we wanted. Every fat person that I know, when I go to their house they halways have unhealthy food on the fridge or just laying aroind in their home. Yes parents are 100% to blame bcs now im 28 and I still have the healty habits that my parents teached me! (Ye your brother is in the same path as you hes fat and will only get worse with that lack of education on heathy lifestyle) ps. Sorry for bad english im from portugal

    • @JamesJansen
      @JamesJansen  6 років тому +2

      I am not saying that their bad habits didn't play a role, however to give credit them with 100% of the blame is inaccurate. As I explain in my video, there are many different things that helped contribute to my weight gain. Blaming my parents negates what the actual problem and that is how I decided to act in the situations I was put in.
      The reason I cannot blame anything or anyone other then myself is because a majority of how I gained my weight is a result of how I acted in the situations I was put in. I could place the blame on so many other things, but those are all out of my control. I can only focus on what I can change and how I act. Once I changed that mindset and lifestyle, I have been successful.
      p.s. I hope this makes sense or at least helps you understand where I am coming from, no worries with the bad English and thank you for sharing your thoughts!

    I don’t wonder at all how you got fat. You obviously eat meat, oil, dairy and processed foods. It would probably be unfathomable to you that a person could be totally satisfied just eating a whole food, plant based diet. Judging by the fact that your last video was 6 months ago, you were probably doing calorie restriction..still eating all the things that you love but calorie restriction doesn’t work. The reason why, human beings need to eat between 3-5 pounds of food per day. If you insist on eating foods that are calorie dense like dairy, oil, meat (which includes chicken and turkey) and processed foods, you have to eat under the 3-5 pounds. Eventually your body will reject the diet. You seem like a nice person but you are on the wrong track. If you did a whole food, plant based diet you could eat all you care for, pasta, potatoes, rice, oatmeal, beans and fruits and vegetables. But unfortunately you have bought into the myth that chicken and turkey are “lean” well they aren’t. Chicken is about 1100 calories per pound versus vegetables are approximately 100 calories per pound and fruits are about 300 calories per pound. Potatoes are around 400 calories per pound. Maybe someday you’ll watch a calorie density video if you really want to lose weight, regain your health and maintain your weight.
