A little bit of context, this song represents the fall of Skadi to her seaborn blood, taking her over and becoming the reincarnation of the Eldritch Sea God called Ishar-Mla, quite literally the bringer of the apocalypse. I highly recommend that you watch the Ambience Synesthesia 2022 concert, you will be able to listen to some new songs alongside to some old ones, including Under Tides!
This song has such an amazing turn when the voices seem to be unleashed, my absolute favorite. To me the vocals are the calls from the sea horrors, inviting you to join them, like sirens.
if you notice, the seaborn events are all placed not with other side stories but with the other main story connected events: meaning it's gonna be one of the main focuses of the game
I am hoping against hope that the next Limited Banner (the one with Lin) is generous to me and gives me both Skadi Alter and Specter Alter. I don't expect it, not after having to fork over 100 $ to spark Texas Alter (but hey, P6 Penance in 301 pulls), but one can dream.
Under Tides and Stultifera Navis are easily my two favorite events in the game. having some of the best music and playing into the fact that i love everything ocean
Some comments are saying that the vocals are the seaborns reaching out to join them but an important thing to remark here is that in the files of the game, this track is called m_bat_abyssalhunters. These hunters are aegir-seaborn hybrids and the purpose of the boss whose this ost is from, is to make the seaborn hunter's blood to take over. Thus at the begining of the track everything is somber, dispersed caotic and the vocals do call out luringly. But after THAT one moment in the track the music returns to an order structure, the music is high and triumphant and what is most, the vocals are now singing a battle cry. Not mindlessly like seaborns, but coherent and determined. The seaborn blood of the hunters enhancing their abilities to take down the big baddie. I like that it starts like "The song that plays when the bad guy is fighting you" and turns into "the song that plays when you're fighting the bad guy"
Your siren idea is apt, except in this case the siren is queen of an ever-evolving, ever-changing horde of sea monsters which seek to devour the world. Lore-wise, the character in question's (Skadi the Corrupting Heart or Skadi Alter) singing is dangerous for normal people to hear. Hell, her entire lore and her faction's lore is very Bloodborne-esque. Think of Skadi as a hunter hosting ans slowly turning into a beast, except the beast is both an Old One AND has inherited Skadi's deep emotional bond with the player character. Game-play wise, you hear a snippet of this song each time you deploy Skadi Alter onto the field. The devs made it so that all other sounds are lowered and you ONLY hear the song and her voiceline.
ah, the Under Tides theme, even after all the amazing OST's we've gotten in recent events, this one still remains my favorite of all, as you said, it has a lot of things going on, the eerie atmospher it gives, the instruments, the vocals that sound like the singing of the sirens, all of those are so, so good, and it perpefctly encapsulates Skadi's character arc during this event
I must admit, the part at 3:10 I have rewinded a lot of times as well. Back when I first saw the Under Tides trailer they used this track too and they used that specific bit for a cool transition where you see the event logo introduced on the screen (funnily enough you mentioned the logo too). The trailer gave me some of the biggest goosebumps I've ever had, and I was very hyped for the event. I liked your reaction to this track a lot! If you are interested, would like to suggest "I Believe In Us," which features some of the same characters from the Under Tides event. It's more of a "standard" song, but it's very good and I like it a lot.
This theme also doubles as the Boss Theme of the event. Under the name of Abyssal Hunter. This is important because the Abyssal Hunters are a special military branch created to fight the monsters you have seen in the Stultifera Navis animation, for example. And in the event's story, they confront the Boss. Yes, this is not the Theme of the Boss. This is the Theme of those that Hunt the Boss. With the Boss begging for mercy, trying to find a way out The beginning ties back to the beginning of the story. To fight the Seaborn monsters, Abyssal Hunters are endowed with some of their essence. And during the operation to attack the Seaborn's Highest, which they successfully slew, Skadi got "infected" (different from the "usual" Infected in the game) with Their Essence (not sure if Ishar-mla even knows the concept of gender). But they still had to escape and Skadi's squad held back their forces, only for them to become separated. Now. The Seaborn is a hivemind, known as We Many by the humans connected to it. Abyssal Hunters partake in this connection and every squad even is connected among themselves, making them stronger together. Meaning that isolation is a serious problem. Especially when you have been hit with the Highest Being's essence. At some point, Skadi joins the player's faction. Because there was one of her own in our care: Specter. Time passes, Skadi watches over the almost always sleeping Specter, but it should not last. Until one day, Specter is abducted. By none other than Gladiia, the leader of Skadi's squad. This was to confront the Church of the Deep, which is behind Specter's condition, and Skadi follows. All the while Ishar-mla eats away at her. There's a bit of a discussion about Skadi's supposed fall and becoming the avatar of Ishar-mla, the Firstborn, Highest Being among the Seaborn. But this isolation and wavering is what gives the beginning its atmosphere. Until all three confront the Bishop and Hunt.
Considering this is like a main story part 2 for AK(it's placed with the other main story events rather than with the other side stories) it might happen
@@master_swish That would be incredible. I'm wondering what format would be better and how to divide it to cover UT, SN and whatever comes next. One movie might be tight to fit both unless it's quite long and it'd miss out a few things here and there maybe. Perhaps a short series with above average production quality? Nah, I still want movies lol, just feels like they be more likely to do it justice as a movie.
The quick and dirty of these event series: Event 1 Oh no! The aquatic hivemind wants to take over the world and assimilate everything. Last time they tried, Atlant--I mean Aegir made supersoldiers to fight em off, but Aegir got Atlantis-ed, and the supersoldiers more or less disappeared, along with large portions of the coastline. Meet Skadi, one of said supersoldiers, who through a series of unfortunate events finds herself looking for one of her supersoldier buddies by the beach, but the aquatic hivemind now has a cult on its side, and they're now hanging over a seaside town like a shadow over Innsm--I mean, Sal Viento. And if you know your Shadow over Innsmouth lore, you might know the plot twist awaiting the protagonist. Event 2 The supersoldiers now need to find a ship, a crowning jewel of advanced technology. What are they planning to do with it? They want to use it as a phone to talk to Atlant--I mean, Aegir. Surprise surprise, we find ourselves at another seaside town, with another two word name, with another instance of the cult. Oh but this one has a lighthouse, which the aquatic hivemind have laid claim to. So now, the supersoldiers, the Spani--I mean, the Iberian Inquisition (yeah, no one expects them), and a random church fish-boy (who is also best boy) who just happens have grown up there and read about advanced lighthouse engineering, need to find their way to the boat and unravel the secrets within. Along they way, they may or may not accidentally run into a certain half crazed knight trying to fight large structures, and rides a (sea)horse named Rocinante, who wants to do nothing more than to KILL THE OCEAN. A weird creepy fish Cthulhu baby creature tries to feed itself to others, a somewhat hot lady gets eaten but turns into a jellyfish with wings, we find out the effect of eating rancid mutant aquatic hivemind meat. Bad times are had by all.
this song and the event(under tides) this song from is like an introduction to seabornes. hive-mind creaturs with ability to rapid evolution. Since certain humans of terra attacked them, they see humanity as main threat now. Golden Age one comes after Under Tides, it shows determination of (mostly) Iberian people(country suffered a lot from seabornes attacks. put it short) to overcome this challenge and continue thriving or some like that, when one rapidly evolved seaborne was fought I also recommend to check 旅者//征服者 , it's from boss fight where you suppose to fight seaborne "god", even tho it's a simulation. it has some elements from Under Tides music
Fun fact about the vocals, from the composer Steven Grove himself! I've always been curious about this, and in the end I decided "fuck it I might as well try" and shot him an email. To my surprise he gave me a very detailed answer about it! The otherworldly, ethereal vocals were created by writing out melodic phrases, reversing them, and then recording the reversed phrases with a singer. The recordings were then reversed back to their original melodies, which produced interesting artifacts, unusual dynamic shifts, and an otherworldly, never-heard-before language. The vocals were also pitched up and down to create parallel harmonies, enhancing the eeriness even more.
Un dato curioso de esta cancion, la verdion Alter de Skadi que salio con este evento al usar sus habilidades presenta tres partes de esta cancion, cosa que es genial
The whole abyssal story is of a bygone era with whag remnants festering, a depressing scenario arknights has by a bucket Yet even in such case the abyssal hunters manage to snatch the boss theme for themselves Aegir supersoldiers built different
This theme really make me feel coldness despite the place I live is hot asf. It so good it makes me feel like I'm drowning in the sea after got lure by a siren song.
This is one of boss theme that's really give me goosebumps. Of course I can't feel the same while playing the stage lol. My focus was to beat the stage first.
Also there is a reason why the song have siren call. This is None canon to the main story, but Skadi luring the Main Protagonist Doctor (You the player of this game) to become one with her while she basically kill everyone in Terra the world to become mindless seaborn monster. But mind you, this is a "What if" scenario if Skadi succumb to Ish Mar La as she is just a vessel to that Sea God. In the main story, Skadi resisted the IshMar La and the world of Terra is going normal, with fighting rock cancer and genocides between countries.
This song is literally an Orca talking to other eldritch hivemind fishes in her own language and the other hivemind fishes playing the music in return.
oh cool you had the same exact experience i did listening to this song for the first time. under tides and stultifera navis were definite high points in arknights music.
and getting reminded again how much I dont notice without any music/art-skills óO every time I hear people listen to this they add smth new to the interpretations you - another one deduces about 85-99% of the characters emotions/development of this event and me just "yep sounds nice" mfg Olli
To not bore you with lore and all that makes no sense to you: the siren like singing is Skadi singing. Skadi is a character based on an Orca and it's a play at killer whales singing after a fresh kill. In the game it's a boss theme but it's clearly a Hunters' theme as their purpose is to hunt down and kill seaborn creatures.
I forget, have you reacted to Eunectes's theme (Evolutionary Mechanization) yet? If you haven't, you definitely should. It doesn't have much in the way of vocals, but it DOES have a fantastic blend of rock and tribal music that I think you'd enjoy.
Now, you have to check out some project moon songs, "Between Two Worlds" and "In Hell We Live, Lament" are just... delicious, as well as some more typical ones, like combat ost's, for example "Gebura battle".
"sounds like sirens dragging me under" spot on the boss fight is in fact 3 siren esque ladies handing a can of whoopass to a resident evil cthulu version mofo
This is the track that forced me to play Arknights. After listening to it, I got immensely interested in the game. The group of characters, Abyssal Hunters, kinda like the hunters from Bloodborne, are still my favorite ones. I think a lot of people actually got interested in AK after listening to it or watching a PV with it. The story of the event is also pretty Lovecraftian, kinda like Dagon if you are into this stuff.
Like the Stultifera Navis event it also has the smol short 3D PV animation. Curious to hear your thoughts and comparison between the 2. Though it won't be as long as the sequel PV
I suspect that vocals are played backwards to sound as alien as possible. Also, for even more different styles from Arknights, try Ensheath, Silver Lining and Standchen
Atlantean super soldiers wage war against eldritch monsters from the ocean abyss That's kind of the bulk of the context you need to understand this song. The abyssal hunters are my favourite faction ingame so it kinda hurts me to summarise it so briefly, but I think for a non-player that's all you need to know

Gotta love my sea horrors in my anime games
3:11 Never fail to give me goosebumps all the time. The first time I heard it I was ascended.
the song showing up in the event trailer, the music swelling the second it revealed they were adding kal'tsit... chef's kiss
The first time I heard it, I was evolved into seaborn.
I want to forget about all feelings that i got when i've heard this for the first time and re-hear it.
Every. single. time.
That ethereal singing is absolutely amazing. Love the fact that they use soundbits of it for Skadi's in game skills.
I even shed a tear every time

Under Tides and Stultifera Navis are easily my two favorite events in the game.

Those events had almost perfect execution in both visuals, music, story, gameplay and characters. Definitely way up there.
@@thederpydragonair2107 okay but Stultifera navis stages was giga ass, so hard to clear
