CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kirk (William Shatner) and Sulu (George Takei) rescue McCoy (DeForest Kelley) from jail.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When last we left the crew of the star ship Enterprise, they were heading home following a skirmish with the despotic Khan. The unpleasant incident had cost the life of Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy)--or so it seemed. Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) is informed by Spock's father Sarek (Mark Lenard) that his son is being kept alive in the thoughts of one of the crew members. It now becomes necessary to search for Spock's body, so that flesh and soul can be rejoined on Vulcan. It turns out that Spock's spirit is residing within the mind of the Vulcan's longtime shipmate, "Bones" McCoy (DeForrest Kelley). Finding the body is another matter, since the Enterprise has been consigned to the trash heap and thus is out of Kirk's jurisdiction.

"That green-blooded son of a bitch, it's his revenge for all those arguments he lost!"
Best snappy comeback EVER!
Only DeForest Kelly can give that delivery.
Yeah all 3 of them 😂😂😂
Very very intelligent script ❤
This is what sets apart this crew from the others. Bones absolute disdain for Spock while also respecting him. Only in a way Deforest Kelly could deliver.
I read once that George Takei didn't want to do the whole "Don't call me 'tiny'" sequence, objecting to the "tiny" epithet, but was persuaded to do it anyway. Later, after he saw the finished film, he apologized, saying that it was one of Sulu's finest moments.
Nice modified Ippon-Seo-Nage, Sulu threw that big boy down like a bag of potatoes!
@@MrWayne1701 Tai otoshi!
@@JimmyCerra So it is, I'm no Judo expert...
Takei is a guy who argued himself into less screen time and less story by insisting Sulu should be captain himself by now. He wanted an imaginary promotion for a fictional character rather than a bigger role for himself.
This is indeed one of his best moments - before World Enough and Time. The essence of his scene here is "Sulu does Venusian Akido in a leather Pertwee cape."
Say what you will about George Takei, but he is a talented actor. Nobody else could have played the original Sulu except him.
And he's got an awesome coat.
it may of been set in the 2280's, But it's got 1980's all over it!
I don’t think you even need to qualify that statement. There’s not much to “say what we will” about him that’s not a reflection of how good he is. He’s an activist for great causes, found a fun second life for his career via social media and being open about his sexuality, and he’s remained active as an artist - “Allegiance” is a laudable achievement all on its own.
How do you know if nobody else has ever played sulu instead of him?
I don't think anyone has anything bad to say about George Takei. Also,@@b320max8 : Um, John Cho? He played Sulu in three different Star Trek movies
In addition to not being tiny, Sulu is probably above that guard by about 10 ranks...
Sulu = Commander
Guard = glorified desk secretary
"That's commander Tiny"
That’s what I’ve always thought!
The escape of McCoy was a great scene
"Don't call me tiny" The Best Line right there, gotta love George Takei
No one could play Sulu like him
SO true love that scene
"I hear he's fruity as a nutcake."
Sorry admiral, we don't do jokes in Starfleet Security.
I like the Next Generation and other spinoffs, I even like the cast of the Trek reboot films (even if the films themselves are not to my liking). But I don't think they ever topped the original cast. Sure, Shatner sometimes overacts, but by this point it's all part of Kirk's larger-than-life legend. And man, they could be genuinely funny. Not goofy, not cracking jokes, just wonderfully, humanly funny in the midst of all the action and drama.
The chemistry as a three piece is spot on.
"That green blooded son of a bitch" gets me every time!
Is it really necessary to insult Amanda by basic calling her a dog?
I want Sulus' Jacket!
I second that emotion! 😎
Small trivia. DeForest Kelley in the later Trek films wore scarves picked by his friend and fellow actor Van Johnson. DeForest said it was "Van's way of being a part of the movies without being there". In essence, Van could watch the movie and say "I did that!".
Fun Fact: According to Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner can't do the Vulcan salute, so they had to tie fishing wire to his fingers for the shot!
Well hell, I can't do it either!
Zachary Quinto can't do it either. I read he had to glue his fingers together.
That's very damn funny.
Shatner can't act!!!!!!!!
Wizardof87 1987 The hell he can’t.
“Mr. Sulu, remind me never to piss you off.”
Kirk(holds up Vulcan hand sign): How many fingers do I have up?
McCoy: That's not very damn funny.
Kirk: You're suffering from a Vulcan mind meld doctor.
McCoy: That green blooded son of a bitch! It's his revenge for all those arguments he's lost!
As if Spock *ever* lost an argument with McCoy.
Coral Roper That's the joke.
You have eyes and ears!
McCoy is angry at Spock and should leave his mother out of it.
The thing is Sulu is a commander so that security guy was insulting his superior officer
the guard wouldn't have known sulu is in civilian clothes.
@@cosmeticscameo8277 Sulu still had his badge.
@@partyguy101ify sulu showed his badge to the other guy who complied but the tall mustache guy didn't see sulus' badge. if sulu came in full uniform he would've sung a different tune.
The guy Sulu flipped was apparently the guy Spock nerve-pinched before stealing a thruster suit in The Motion Picture.
I guess he got demoted!
It's actually the other, less-tall guy, Gary Faga who Spock nerve-pinched in TMP, and Kirk punches in this scene. He had a mustache in TMP but is clean shaven here.
"How many fingers do I have up" LOL Still cracks me up.
William Shatner couldn't do the Vulcan 'salute', so they tied his fingers together with fishing line for the Scene.
"That's not very damn funny!"
Oh is that what they did? I assumed they had another actor standing right behind and below him holding up the Vulcan salute. Cause you can't actually see Shatner's full arm in that shot. @@cleekmaker00
When did Spock EVER lose an argument with McCoy?
"The Trouble with Tribbles"?
ReneeMontoya12 No, I'm pretty sure he won that one with the cutting remark that the tribbles do not talk too much.
Very late, but in 'Journey to Babel', McCoy did get the last word after telling Spock to shut up. I guess that's something?
In McCoy's mind, every time.
@@talonschild Exactly. I think he was being very sarcastic there.
Go George. Never let no man intimidate you regardless of size.😆😆😆😆
Oh myyyy
Sulu what a badass
I really like how he blasts the fuck out of that console.
Sulu: Says nothing suspicious or ill-mannered
Gaurd: DoN't GeT sMaRt, TiNy!
A prison guard never would've been that disrespectful to an officer. Sulu was a Commander at this time. That guard couldn't have been higher than a Petty Officer. And the other guard wouldn't dream of taking that tone with a flag officer of Admiral Kirk's stature. That would be like a Staff Sergeant telling Patton to "make it quick".
Starfleet has always been sloppy in that regard. They tolerate a lot of backtalk from lower ranks that wouldn't happen in today's military. That guard who called Sulu tiny didn't even have a real reason to be an asshole. He just was.
Maybe not with Kirk because he was so well known but Sulu was in plain clothes so it’s doubtful that the guard would know about his rank.
@@coolcat6303 Sulu showed them his ID though
Damn, Sulu sand-bagged that fool.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE TAKEI!!! TO MANY MORE!
Man, that guy must have been close to 5'8", 5'9" to tower over George Takei like that.
george takei is 5'8
to tower over someone that's 5'8 you'd need to be 6'2 at least
"Hey, you know that style of baseball cap that was popular 10 years ago? Ya, they will totally be using that as a uniform centuries from now."
Takei is awesome "Oh my"
Without a doubt, Sulu's finest moment in Trek.
I think you're neglecting Star Trek VI: "Well, fly her apart then!"
In my opinion
This is the moment when George Takei came out of the closet
It was his most memorable!
I don't care how big and tall you are - you don't insult a superior officer like that.
@The Fandom Menace Sulu is still a superior officer. Even an MP should know better.
By the way, Sulu, nice coat.
I have always wanted that jacket, whatever it is
It's like a split between poncho and jacket
Sulu gets pissed when called tiny but he did flip a starfleet security officer who was taller than him.
One of the more underrated Trek films. Wrath of khan was always going to be a hard act to follow, but everyone involved showed that they were up for challenge and gave it their all.
So a low level guard in a Starfleet detention facility will gratuitously insult a fairly senior officer who is an associate of both Admiral Kirk and the commander of Starfleet?
Why do you think he was still a " low level guard"?
@@Wednesdaywoe1975 - duties, posture, demeanor.
@@Wednesdaywoe1975 well this is interesting. we dont know if these federation security guards are part of starfleet or are they the equivalent of civlian contractors. or if they are part of starfleet are they enlisted rank crewman? EITHER way compared to sulu the guards are low rank if they're not commissioned officers.
Perhaps he's just an idiot.
i LAUGHED HARD when Zulu said "DONT call me Tiny!" xD
Sulu is bloody epic!
Kirk: "how many fingers am I holding up"
McCoy: "that's not very damn funny"
"I see your sense of humour has returned."
The guards wouldn’t dare talk to decorates superiors and hero’s of the fleet like that, but of sloppy scriptwriting there methinks.
sulu is wearing civilian clothes. if sulu showed up in uniform you bet the guard wouldve been nicer.
Don't call me Tiny.
Somehow, I can almost visualize him ranting like Edward Elric.
The moral of the story here is don’t screw with the enterprise crew. Sulu Scotty and Uhura
It's funny, humans in that age are supposed to lack the pettiness, arrogance and a lot of the faults that we have yet whenever they have scenes based on Earth the writers seem to forget about that.
Humans will always be human. I think Star Trek taught us that. It's the struggle that makes is better.
You know, I think that McCoy might have been allergic to mind melds.
The "Don't get smart, tiny" guy was also in ST:TMP --- in the brief scene where Spock steals a space suit, he's the officer on duty in the storage locker that Spock takes down with a nerve pinch...
Just thought you all would appreciate that tidbit...
Gary Faga
Poor chap couldn't get a break. First, he gets nerve pinched by Spock, then Sulu throws him about like a rag doll. Lol!!
This movie has one great scene after another
Oh myyy.
Federation funny farm. As being somebody who should be there. It’s poetry.
Dr. McCoy: "The hell it has."
Kirk (in the next film): _[acts like people don't swear in the future]_
Pretty sure that Commander Sulu outranked that security guard.
"I hear he's fruity as a nutcake."
"Don't call me tiny."
"Get in the closet!"
"Up yer shaft."
Who was in charge of dialog for this movie? George Takei? :P
Neal X Oh, well played. You need more likes!
Same person who did the wardrobe
I thought they were funny
"You're taking me to the promised land?" "What are friends for?"
"I'll have Mr. Adventure eating out of my hand."
"The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."
"I think that's *my* line, stranger."
"You have me at a disadvantage, sir."
"How much and how soon?"
"What you ask... is difficult."
"Give me what I want, and I'll consider it."
1:32 Don't call me tiny
Sulu knows Venusian Aikido and carries a sonic screwdriver. Verdict? Sulu is the Doctor, rescuing another doctor.
Imagine Kirk, tying his fingers together with fishing wire just to make that joke.
1:26 Kirks face "Damn I'm even scared" lol
kirk only fought sulu in h2h when sulu was under the influence with the psi 2000 virus or when he was under mind control. kirk never fought normal sulu and im pretty sure kirk would not want to fight normal sulu.
George Takai didn't age a DAY lmao
Takei did pull that throw off well.
He had extensive martial arts training at Starfleet Academy, and he put it to good use many times.
A guard ordering an admiral around, that ain't soldiering
sulu is a commander. thats basically a lt colonel in army rank.
@@cosmeticscameo8277 I was talking about the guard at the beginning.
Those guards' hats are so goofy.
I love how sulu gets his payback.

Such a good movie
6 phaser shots to destroy one console.
All the star trekkers really have drip in this one.

As much as I don't like Takei as a person but my god did he nail his role.
I'm sure this is John Beck, whom I just watched in the DS9 episode 'Tribunal'.
The way he ran through the door…
He held his fingers together off camera and then raised it up. :)

Is it just me, or does that guy have a serious discipline issue, mouthing off to and threatening a superior officer with such little justification? Guess I shouldn't be all that surprised, though...Starfleet has pretty lax discipline.
