- John and his brother Michael are two of the most famous names in British showjumping - largely due to the partnership between John and his famous grey Milton. John began riding at the age of six on the family farm and got his first taste of competition at eight years old. He achieved huge success winning medals at the World and European Championships during the 1980s and 1990s and Silver at the LA Olympics in 1984. One of his most famous horses was Milton, the first show jumping horse to win more than £1 million in prize money and one of the most loved and recognised horses is the history of show jumping.

you've been my hero since I began riding in early '80s. although horses have changed so much since Milton, I will never adore one as much as I adored him. thank you for having been an incredible example for more than one generation of riders.
Great memories of watching John at shows from the '70 onwards. Down to earth and a real champion. Thanks for the memories!

This mans my inspiration
I wanted to marry John when I was a child and he was 27! He was and I think the best showjumper in the world. He has the most gentle hands as a showjumper .. Ryans Son, Milton .. John is a star and probably way better than the generations that came after him. Michael, his brother, never seemed to have John's gentle hands or talent .. but was very competitive and successful.
