Barristan is probably going to die at some point in Winds Of Winter, but the book is STILL not out so it doesn't really matter what will and wont happen in the book anymore. There's a few other characters that get offed this season that are still alive in book 5, but will definitely die in book 6. George is one of the most frustrating people ever lol.

BUT - House of the Dragon is amazing and you got 2 seasons of that in the future.

In the books Baristan didn't die, Cersei did many other crazy stuff, started scheming to have Jon assasinated, she refused to pay the Iron bank back and used that money to build a giant navy (navy commander would later betray her and declare himself a pirate king) and she sent Margery's spy maids to Qyburn who used them for horrific experiments.
Lord barry, after finishing GOT i implore you to watch the animated movie “GOT: Conquest & Rebellion” its basically like histories and lore but in my opinion it explains things way better and the visuals are better

I really think you should check out some book theories. I genuinely think you would like them a lot considering how interested you are in the world of Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire). I'd suggest checking out either Alt Shift X or Preston Jacobs, any video title that you find interesting. The world is really very intricate and the story has hundreds of layers not even touched on in the show. In fact, this is around the point where the show writers go almost 100% off the books (other than some minor points).
This season is about 70/30 books to show. They are missing Lady Stoneheart, book Euron, the Lost Lord plot, the Tysha confession, etc etc. But the rest is there. And as good as Hardhome is in the show, it isn't in the books, and I wish it weren't in the show.

Harhome, Battle of Bastards etc. looks cool but makes very less sense the more you think about it. The book is a different beast.
I know Brienne beat the Hound, but I still take the Hound as the best fighter. She had a Valyrian steel sword. Also, I think he sort of underestimated her because she's a woman. I think in a rematch, the Hound beats Brienne. Second best is Jon. His sword skills in the battle for the Wall are the best in the series.
