I don´t like this band at all :( I do preffer something in beetwen T.Rex , Velvet Underground , Bowie :) That´s why I LOVE My Beloved Underground and Monkey Revolution FROM BRAZIL :)
Beartooth is a band I didn’t understand at first, but the more and more I listened to it, the more I understood why people love them. You can definitely tell when a Beartooth song is playing just by the instrumentals alone. I appreciate Caleb’s authenticity in his lyrics. I think so many people are cheering on this latest album because they are so proud and happy for him. The older albums have some painfully raw lyrics where it was clear Caleb felt as though he had no purpose, he would never feel “okay” and struggled on the daily. He finally got sober and to a point where he was done with the negativity for the first time in his career. I first thought this album could be cheesy, but you can tell he truly means the words he is singing now and worked very hard to get himself to the point where he is now, mentally.
I love Beartooth. Saw them last October. Caleb has a very raw feel to him, and sings with a pain that I think most can relate too. He's turned his life around, gotten healthy and happy, and some people don't like it. I, personally, think Beartooth has reached a new height this year and hope to see them continue to raise the bar.
I was not a big fan of this band at first. I can tell you this band is amazing. They are beyond thankful for their fans & interact with them. This band sounds exactly the same live as they do on their cds. They change things up but there is nothing fake about Beartooth. He writes about his life and experencies that is why it is so heart felt. ❤
These guys have wrote so many heartfelt songs describing every single feeling and emotion. From struggle with substances (I Have A Problem), to feeling down and not knowing how to get out of the rut (the in between) and now this song and also "I was alive" they're amazing
I love Beartooth. I think part of what I love so much is it's so purely Caleb, he puts his cards on the table. The sound and core message has changed so much since he got sober and fit (he didn't lose all his t-shirts in a fire, I think he's just very proud of how far he's come) So now you almost get this juxta position of super positive heavy rock. Screams of "I'M EXACTLY WHO I WANT TO BE" are not lyrics you'd ordinarily expect from this genre of music. Then you contrast that with say the song "Afterall" and it was screams of "There's not an ounce of hope inside of me, I wanna die before I fade away" Love them
Justin, I feel that this song is personal for Caleb. He has been in a journey for being sober for a while, has talked a lot about that over last months. It's really intersting because as you mentioned is personal for him and that song really hits hard when he say "chemistry is changing, emotions rearranging... I think I might love myself" for those that have been following him over the years. Also, the riffs are really catchy for this one.
I think this proves my theory that all the metal heads I grew up with secretly liked catchy pop tunes just as much as my sister did… it’s why you go to metal shows now and they play Backstreet Boys pre show and the crowd always pops for it…
I can guarantee that's the case some people feel ashamed of what they like and hide parts of it but I guarantee if you went through their CD cases you'd find at least a burnt CD with pop on it that they would claim was only for parties or something but they would listen to it often
At the root of it, everyone loves a pop song. Maybe not all of them, and you can be picky for various reasons, but there’s a structure to them that is just immediately accessible and conveys obvious emotion.
One of the things for me is that I listened to beartooth before this album and in dark times found companion in their music This new album is so full of hope and turning a mental health corner so it hypes me up to hear him so freed
Theyre album “Below” is a very good album. Caleb is a solid dude and vocalist, and this new direction the band is going is making him happy, so im happy for them.
I’ve been listening to him since those days. First songs I ever heard from him were the revolution and smokahontas. I digged it then, then one day saw a music video come out for “I have a problem” from his new band beartooth and I was blown away

This song means so much more when you know Caleb's past and his journey up to this point. I personally find him incredibly inspiring, and I love to hear positivity in this genre. That being said, there's a place for the pain too. Music is cathartic for the listener, but even more so for the artist.
Fellow Beartooth fan here! Absolutely loved the way you broke the whole song down. It may not be everyone's taste but I for one love Beartooth's sound even from the first album where it was much more raw and heavy. I would love to see more if you ever planned on doing more. Top Bloke as always Justin 👍
Bilmuri is another band that blossomed out of Attack Attack, I think in a few years a ton of bands will be following the direction of Bilmuri's style. Amazing live as well just like Beartooth

Saw them just last week on their basically completely sold out US tour. They definitely moved a bit more on the poppy side with some of the new singles, but they are more of a metal core band than rock band. I like how you picked up on him being honest. I think this song is very honest about his feelings as he's been very open about his struggles and the recent turn around.
contemporary metal bands have run the well of depressing lyrics dry as fuck in recent years, if you want an album that speaks to your state of mind whether it's depression, stress, anxiety, heartbreak, grief, loss, mourning, all that shit then there's like almost 20 years worth of metal albums from metal bands to chose from, and Beartooth is definitely one of those bands but lately with this new album it's so great to actually hear someone in this genre actually be going thru a good time for once their new album The Surface is essentially a pop metal album with how heavy it is but also how happy and positive and uplifting the lyrics are
If you want positivity in metal or rock you should listen to some Japanese bands. Nemophila's Rise or Raitei, Band-Maid's Reincarnation or Warning!, or Lonesome Blue's Face the Fear are great examples of not only positivity but motivational positivity.
You nailed it on Caleb's authenticity, and I absolutely *love* that my 13-year-old has songs from them with such positive messages to sing along to!!! I hope they (the band) realize that delivering equal parts intensity and positivity will make a difference in how some kids get through life - music connects with one's soul and can affect their mental outlook/health in a powerful way! Hopefully they'll be around again soon and it won't be a school night and I won't have a show to play myself!!!🤘
I love Beartooth!!! The energy that Caleb emits on stage during a show is contagious!!! I have been following Caleb since his Attack Attack era. He has been on a long journey, kicked his drinking habit. I am very proud of you, Caleb and your band!!!!
The best part is Caleb has been around his music scene for almost 20 years and is still fairly young and is one of the most loved and most respected artists. HIs journey not only professionally but personally has been amazing and inspiring to see.
I LOVE Beartooth. Saw/met them in January in Toronto. they were incredibly, genuinely kind, and they were one of the BEST live acts I have EVER seen!!!!
I just started the video- regardless of what is said I fucking love Beartooth. Caleb just lays it all out there and it really looks like their loving every second. Maybe a unpopular opinion- but I think Below is fantastic
Never heard of this band, there's something quite raw about the interchange between the pop and emo/metal it's almost like a look at us, we can do both kind of kick in the face. Reminds me a little (a pinch) like the sort of thing Linkin Park did, that crossover works so well with this type of voice. Going to go and have a listen to see what else they have come up with. Thanks Justin, another band to add to my ever growing list.
Give Bilmuri a listen too! Caleb & the lead singer of Bilmuri were in Attack Attack! together and the ways they both branched out from their start is impressive.
Another good breakdown. It is not a bad song, has a lot going on. It is interesting how they include a mix of genres, and as you put it "dynamic flexing"
I discovered Beartooth about a year ago and have been through almost their entire catalog. I have yet to find a song that I don’t like. One of my favorite bands by a lot now. So good.
One of my favorite bands. They have an interesting dual type of music. It goes from ass kicking thrash to super catchy riffs with a grooving rhythm section. But hands down, the best part of Beartooth are the messages they bring lyrically. Very raw, a blend of hopeless and hopeful, really empowering stuff. Even the heaviest of their songs can get me choked up
Man… one of my all time favorites lead singers reviewing my new favorite bands..(BMTH, BearTooth) and saying positive thing about them. It’s like the rock Gods giving their blessings. ❤
I think the biggest travesty is you have an entire culture and generation that has grown up with autotune and overproduction being so normal that they actually think that somebody who isn’t being autotune can’t sing. When it’s the other way around. And before anybody says anything, if there’s no problem with allowing autotune and post production to justify your career, then why don’t any of these artists own up to the fact honestly? You have a 15-year-old, asking their parents to pay $150 to watch somebody that they are convinced is talented who is on stage being pitch corrected live and not being honest about that fact. I love dance and trance music, but at least none of those singers are actually pretending to be Completely natural without effects. Bands like this try to have it both ways. If you don’t think what you’re doing is a problem, then own up to it. If you don’t, it’s just fake, if you are fake, at least be honest about it, if people choose to part with their money when they know it, that’s on them.
would love for you to do another beartooth video reacting to an older tune, maybe In between or the lines. some of the still melodic and poppy but less synthy, grittier stuff. great vid as always
Most people here clearly haven't followed along the journey of Beartooth, so let me fill you in. This was the first album Beartooth made since Caleb got sober, and made a physique transformation. For the last 10 years Beartooth was a very dark/self loathing kind of band, very focused on Caleb's struggles. His first album was a solo project, with the exception of In Between being co produced. The old stuff was very raw, metalcore. Riptipe was the first single where he basically made a point that he was done at least for now making dark/self loathing music, and that he wanted to focus on positivity, self love, and personal development. And I'd say he accomplished that, plus kept it heavy. Again if you don't know the history of the band, I totally get that it seems like your generic top 40 rock/alt metal. God forbid someone wants to make an album about self love after getting sober ... you'd think Justin would get that, but hey.
Justin has an issue with the over production, not the story. The pop verses is so over produced like current day maroon 5, then it has over polished metal core moment. I just can’t get into Metal core, it’s so pop metal, it’s like if maroon 5 decided to do breakdowns.
Nice to see you covering Beartooth, Caleb is incredible guy, not only he writes all the songs, he is producer and sometimes plays all the instruments on the album, this is his more possitive phase, earlier stuff is more heavy musicly and lyrically
Caleb is one of my favorite musicians ever. I’m not a huge fan of Beartooth’s newer stuff m, personally, but it’s extremely well done. But he’s an incredibly talented artist and I respect him a great deal.
The current style of music is to layer as many things as possible, especially vocals. I like it, it tickles my nerves. Use every possible sound wave that can coexist without cutting another one out! (And I also adore Beartooth.)
I love Beartooth's first album. They were the first band I ever moshed to so they're near and dear to me. I was pretty disappointed with their following work, but Caleb at least seems to be in a happier place in his life and thats what's important.
Beartooth started off more as a hardcore band and was based on getting out Caleb's depression Now hes maturing and making happier music and this is the result and its beautiful
Beartooth are awesome. What you, Hawkins, nail in your first impression is that their number one strength is that guy Caleb is sincere. There's no going through the motions and that, to me and for me, is what resonates most. And this is one of their weaker songs. I like the angrier stuff more.
The first Beartooth album amazed me by how emotionally raw it was. I do think the production choices are made to try and broaden audience appeal, there's a poppy-ness to the track but it also hits pretty hard. It walks that line pretty well!
The hair in the previous video looked like “I just got out of the bath” style - and it was in London. So helmet hair from snowboarding? What did I miss? 😊
It was bound to happen that someone found the lost recording footage from “Boogie Nights”… At least the Marvelous 3 returned to save the season. Hopefully the Darkness will return soon as well.
Its soo good!!! Pop, rock, heavy rock, hardcore/metalcore?? Catchy stuff... HUGE Sing-Along choruses, heavy breakdowns... packaged in well written, well mixed delivery, with genuine and heart felt lyrics.. Doesnt get much better than Beartooth!!
I have loved this band since seeing them at Warped Tour in 2014...they've evolved into an absolute force. Sort of on that Bring Me The Horizon type of train where they keep upping the ante with every new album. If I had to pick only 10 albums to take with me on a deserted island, one of them would have to be a Beartooth record.
SURFACE was one of my top 2 albums of 2023 (CREEPER "Sanguvorie" edged it out by like 10 plays) I hope just gets to hear the full album and back catalog. Would love to see what he thinks about them as a whole.
Beartooth is like the equivalent of riding a moped. It's fun, but your mates are gonna tease you for it 😂 I'll admit though, there's a few songs of theirs that frequent my Playlists. He also features on a remix of Don Brocos banger, "Action".
tbh, when I was paralyzed in 2014, their lyrics pulled me through some serious fucking shit(Paralysis at 20). The new album? It made me proud I didn't give up.

The emotional growth and authenticity over the course of their discography is what's doing it
Nice to see you covering Beartooth, Caleb is incredible guy, not only he writes all the songs, he is producer and sometimes plays all the instruments on the album, this is his more possitive phase, earlier stuff is more heavy musicly and lyrically
Great review!!! So glad you've got a youtube channel!
„He‘s not wearing much else!“ 🤣🤣🤣
Caleb is one of my favorite musicians ever. I’m not a huge fan of Beartooth’s newer stuff m, personally, but it’s extremely well done. But he’s an incredibly talented artist and I respect him a great deal.
The current style of music is to layer as many things as possible, especially vocals. I like it, it tickles my nerves. Use every possible sound wave that can coexist without cutting another one out! (And I also adore Beartooth.)
I wonder if he’s seen the crabcore meme of attack attack. I think Justin would respect the shit out of Caleb’s career.
My favorite band!! Thank you!
Justin Hawkins and the Chocolate factory vibes going with the clothing choices in this vid XD.
He's a queen
I love Beartooth's first album. They were the first band I ever moshed to so they're near and dear to me. I was pretty disappointed with their following work, but Caleb at least seems to be in a happier place in his life and thats what's important.
Beartooth started off more as a hardcore band and was based on getting out Caleb's depression
Now hes maturing and making happier music and this is the result and its beautiful
Beartooth are great. Very good live band too.
Beartooth used to be a way heavier band, theyve changed their style, but caleb is really happy and healthy now so i am happy for him.
Purple! Nice! You're one of those people who look good in all colors.
Beartooth are awesome.
What you, Hawkins, nail in your first impression is that their number one strength is that guy Caleb is sincere.
There's no going through the motions and that, to me and for me, is what resonates most.
And this is one of their weaker songs. I like the angrier stuff more.
Can you do a podcast about The Cult? Didn't see them in ages until i stumblle upon them again. So F%&*ng great!!
Soundgarden? No. Just no. Please no. You probably meant to say "Imagine Dragons"
My producer immediately said Imagine Dragons
There is zero Soundgarden in there… it’s the most awful shit ever!
This is a soft song for beartooth
The first Beartooth album amazed me by how emotionally raw it was. I do think the production choices are made to try and broaden audience appeal, there's a poppy-ness to the track but it also hits pretty hard. It walks that line pretty well!
Love your velvety blazer ❤
Oh man!! Avid snowboarder here! I’d Love to see a Justin Hawkins Rides Again - in the powder edition 😁🙃🙃
The hair in the previous video looked like “I just got out of the bath” style - and it was in London. So helmet hair from snowboarding? What did I miss? 😊
You can still see some snow round his nose if you look closely, only true rock stars can afford to go “snowboarding” 🏂☃
There actually are places in London where you can ski and snowboard indoors.
@@barbarabrundage4625 The Houses of Parliament! :0)
I actually like a fair amount of their more recent stuff (last two albums).
Disney workers throw themselves into their roles every day. Their incomes depend upon it.
My favourite band and album right now
It was bound to happen that someone found the lost recording footage from “Boogie Nights”… At least the Marvelous 3 returned to save the season. Hopefully the Darkness will return soon as well.
So true
Channels like this and Rick Beato's is exactly what music doesn't need.
I enjoyed listening to this review fr. Great job
Well, i don't know about Beartooth, but i DO love your grape purple velvet jacket over that pale yellow shirt. Lovely.
I highly recommend “Sunshine” by them, it has an amazing mix of heaviness and melody.
And the surface too is great
Not for me, thanks though, i still love you and your reviews
I love your outfit with the great Prince's fav colors.....
They are my guilty pleasure. On the poppy/emo side, they make catchy songs. The songwriting is good too!
SURFACE was one of my top 2 albums of 2023 (CREEPER "Sanguvorie" edged it out by like 10 plays) I hope just gets to hear the full album and back catalog. Would love to see what he thinks about them as a whole.
Boyzone meeting Pop/rock
Give Bilmuri a listening to! Lead singer Johnny was previously bandmates with Caleb and has a very interesting sound as well!
Love how you can always say something positive towards music that i despise.
😂
I would prefer a united front against produced pop from we whose ears are nearly bleeding right now.
@@SuziQ.People's Front of Judea? 😅

@@Penfolds5 Judean People's Front! :0)
Sounds overly produced and very unnatural
Heard it all before. Great production, decent video performance, that’s it for me
Worse than I had expected, and I set my expectations very low.
I like " Bad Listener". Pretty cool.
Love Beartooth! If you get the chance, review “I Was Alive” off that same album! 😀
Beartooth is like the equivalent of riding a moped. It's fun, but your mates are gonna tease you for it 😂
I'll admit though, there's a few songs of theirs that frequent my Playlists.
He also features on a remix of Don Brocos banger, "Action".
tbh, when I was paralyzed in 2014, their lyrics pulled me through some serious fucking shit(Paralysis at 20). The new album? It made me proud I didn't give up.
wait until he hears stick stickly
