There was literally no point in the way J. Yeo painted the King. I’m not British and I know King Charles wasn’t the best with Diana but the way he was portrayed here was just abysmal.
Why would you take artistic liberties, especially in this way, of the King or any Monarch for that matter? What is wrong with you? You paint the King properly or step aside and let a truly artistic artist take the role. He needs a Regal Royal Portrait. You can always paint how you do with your other work at a nother time. If your intentions weren't meant for the work you were tasked to do, then you shouldn't be painting at all.
I've looked at other works by Mr. Yeo, and his other portraits seem much more balanced. He has done beautiful portraits of Prince Philip and the former Duchess of Cornwall, Her Majesty Queen Camilla. He also used this same style for other figures he has painted, including his own father, but those portraits use different tones and have better definition and contrast. I think the red in this portrait is totally overwhelming and detracts from the subject. It makes a statement, but generally not a positive one. And although the red has a slightly pink tone to it, it still illicits too much of a connection to imagery of fire and blood. Those are not kind symbols to be associated with a King, especially King Charles. It has prompted unjustified vile remarks against the King. Surely the artist wasn't oblivious to how this would be received, which really makes you question his intent, no matter how he tries to justify it.

Years ago my Mother in law threw an annual Halloween party. They were fun. Every year she would have a different special event or game. One year she hired an "aura reader" He took like a Polaroid pic of each of us and on most you could see a faint delicate color around the person. Like a rainbow or pale blue etc. Mine had this massive red cloud around me. It looked like a fat bright blood red feather boa around me. My heart and stomach just dropped and I froze when I saw it. I didn't like or enjoy that at all. It really distressed me a lot.
