  • Welcome to Barista & Co's UA-cam channel! In this informative video, we guide you through the essential process of dialling in your grinder and espresso machine to achieve the perfect extraction. Join us as we explore the step-by-step method, ensuring that your coffee brewing experience reaches new heights of flavour and consistency.
    At Barista & Co, we begin with our tried and tested espresso recipe, using 18g of coffee and aiming for a final espresso shot weight of 36g within a timeframe of 25-30 seconds. The journey to dialling in your setup begins with the right amount of coffee in your portafilter basket.
    We demonstrate the easiest way to achieve this precision: by removing the basket from the portafilter and placing it on your scales. Zero the scales, then grind your coffee directly into the empty basket, and weigh it again. Repeat this process, adjusting the grind time until you consistently achieve the desired 18g of coffee.
    With the correct coffee dosage accomplished, we delve into the crucial step of pulling the perfect espresso shot. It's all about finding the right grind size to control the flow rate and extraction time. We explain the significance of grind coarseness, highlighting the potential outcomes of underextraction and overextraction.
    If your coffee is ground too coarsely, the water will pass through quickly, resulting in an underextracted shot that lacks depth and flavour. Conversely, grinding too finely will slow down the water flow, leading to an overextracted shot that may taste bitter and overpowering.
    Throughout the video, we share practical tips and insights to help you fine-tune your grinder and espresso machine setup, ensuring optimal extraction and a delicious cup of coffee.

    You are the best teacher on UA-cam! Really appreciate that you explain even the simplest steps. My Profitec Go arrives tomorrow and after seeing your video excitement has won out against the dread of what I thought was going to be a whole day of dialing in. Thank you very much!

    What a great video. I’m relatively new to this and I have heard of dialling in your grinder etc but no one has actually explained why and the various cause and effects. Your video clearly explains this. I’ll be placing an order soon for a Profitec Go and an Eureka very soon.

    I noticed on the first shot you pulled the pressure remained low and didn't reach reach the 9bars where as the final shot did. Is this due to the grind not be dialed in and the water going through to fast?

    looking at your video, which is very convenient for me cause i have the same machines. Nice and detailed thank you for that. I dont understand though (prob due to my almost zero experience..) in your first try why not try the coffee before throwing it, what if the taste was very close to what your are looking for, this would mean that your ratio should be not i.e. 1:2 but maybe 1:3 or higher, no?

    Good explanation for sure. But it reminds me of a school science class which I hated.

    I wonder how to know that the profitec go is out of water, since the water tank is invisible.

    if I don't like it strong, prefer medium, like 8 - 12 grams of beans, does it mean am not going to get a good delicious cup? for example 10gr beans 20ml shot

    I am confused by this video. You are using 17g of coffee for 30ml of espresso. Does this mean for a double shot you would need to use 34g of coffee which means you would need to fill the portafilter twice.

    • @AsCitiesBurn32
      @AsCitiesBurn32 5 місяців тому

      That is a double shot, if it was a single it would be less coffee in like 7-9g. With it being 17g in and 34g out it’s a double shot.
