Your Ducati kart is a gas, when I was racing go-karts back in the day I always dreamed of putting a Harley Davidson 1000cc Sportster engine in a kart, then what do know, the late great Mickey Thompson built one, I believe it was in 1960-61 and Hot Rod magazine did a story on it, I still have that magazine!
who comes here liking go karts, sees the title, and actually clicks it to dislike it???? this is how I dreamed of go karts as a kid! this is straight badassery!
Back in the '60's took a Honda 90 placed it up front between my feet. On a regular go kart frame. Didn't have to do anything with the engine but to remove the shifter arm then turn it so it was straight up and down. This was to help keep the front wheels on the ground, helped a lot in turning. Chain went to a small jackshaft then from there to the rear axle. This was Hot Shaft sprocket bolted to the axle, drove both rear wheels. Best way to turn was to stomp on the power , get both spinning then jank it around. Donuts on gravel was a lot of fun. Great stuff Guys, Keep it up.
your Ducati is super cool and actually spoke with a friend of mine who knows these and said they were never less than 80 hp out of the factory and that is a little conservative,so you have some very cool stuff going on. i sure agree a foot clutch and better working brakes are a must and it will easily crest a 100 mph without aero work on the body of the car, as usual awesome work and content gentlemen
I think it is painfully (and joyously) obvious that despite whatever massive re-engineering it requires that the Ducati engine needs to be installed on the rail. The rail is (through no fault of the guys) a pig. A beautiful and totally cool pig....but a pig nonetheless. A machine of it's caliber and superb style deserves POWER!
You have a lot of excellent points here Gerald. The rail is a near perfect match (power/size wise, in my opinion) for this engine. That being said, we'd have to hack the chassis to pieces to get it to work- a chain setup would be more ridiculous/dangerous in terms of jackshafts, and a differential setup would also be difficult considering the rider's legs already rest on the 1" axle. To sum it up, it would be better all around to build a new rail from scratch; applying what we've learned in this build to a new design. Rear engine, chromoly tubing, a differential, etc. That's probably the direction we're going if/when we get bored with this one. At the end of the day it may be slow, but we still have fun with it, and fun is incredibly important in what we do.
I think having fun should be a top priority as well. And if a Ducati swap would require basically redesigning the whole rail I can certainly understand your reluctance to do so. And...I have to admit to some curiosity as to weather or not you guys can eventually wring respectable performance out of the 670. Another scratch built rail for the Ducati would probably be best even though it will be a massive project. One I hope to see! So till then...be careful on the "Death Kart". Till pavement do you part!
CarsandCameras with that being the case, why not turbo or nitrous the 670? Or even cooler, slap on an aisin mini roots blower! They can be used on 500-1000cc motorcycles and have even been used on 1.6l vw flat 4s. Plus with it being a roots-type, it's too easy to do a simple draw through setup.
@samwhite1345 No. I haven't ever gotten the chance. I have a truck that I need to finish first. It's a 1997 Nissan Hardbody that I'm doing a 302 Ford swap on. Things in life kinda slowed it down, and I refuse to start another project until I finish my truck.
CarsandCameras I had a question about a kart I just about finished. I slapped a 420cc predator engine on a mini sprint cart I bought. I put a torque converter on it, and a 19t #40 sprocket on it. The torque converter has a 10 tooth sprocket. On the first ride, the chain makes a ton of noise, almost like it’s catching a tooth or something. It jumps a lot, and has a ton of chattering when you put on the gas. I can’t figure it out, have any ideas of what it could be? Chain too tight, loose?
My guess is because they are sponsored by a company that sells the twin predator engines, Maybe the point of the drag cart was to see what they could do with THAT set up.
No, they should adapt a transmission to use the 670cc first, then go on to mounting this.Otherwise, we wont get to see the full potential of the predator series.Keep in mind, they built the 670 to run so it really just needs a good transmission

Best days, was the day I bought it and the next best day I sold it.
Omg that thing is AMAZING!!!!!! You guys got a new subscriber. I can't believe I'm just now finding your channel. So facking cool, I'd give my left goose egg to drive that beast!
Absolutely awesome build guys,, loving the tyre selection, I've built quite a few carts now, personally I go for the big 2 strokes, whoever, that 4 stroke lump is pulling well, I've always put my pedal configuration as you would find in a car 🚗, move your clutch to the nearside much easier when your shifting.. All cred guys once again good fab Wrk..
In 74' we put 2 Yamaha 2 stroke 100cc twins side by side on a cart. Synced up both transmissions.5 speeds.clutch pedal, hand shift.Brakes? 4 compression releases! We raced motorcycles together, the kart was put together with stuff laying around. Our mom's were SO proud.🏁🍺
Hey guys, I love your channel and your projects. My question for y'all is, how do you keep from getting burned with the engine being so close to your side? I wish I knew how to build these things! Y'all are truly inspiring!
I'm about to attempt to make the same project, but in go kart racing they have arm sleeves over their suits to keep them from getting burnt, but with an engine like that the biggest concern is the exhaust which are both not really that easy to touch accidentally.

It reminds me when I ith some friends switch a Rotax for a Polaris snowmobile engine and played in our backyard out on the Salt Flats it was crazy fast however one problem that always persisted is it kept spinning the rear drive side tire not to mention it break chains and other issues at times, actually it b rose everything we took it out that between 4 of us we never had a weekend where all would be able to have a turn, a money pit like a boat. Best days, was the day I bought it and the next best day I sold it.
I ride a Ducati, even a 900 air-cooled engine is strong in a bike, what that`s like I can only imagine - you guys are crazy !
When you play Mario Kart on 200cc
MrMaxx6795 this is like... 900cc
Our mom's were SO proud.🏁🍺
that thing is badass and that engine is one of a kind.
Completely off the subject but, Ike sometimes reminds me of Will Ferrell 😂💯
What is the Velocity channel show that this build aired on called? Love to see it bang trough the gears!
@@timtamcs9110 very cool! Wish I had the mechanical know how to build one. I'm actually wanting something bigger and street legal now though.
@@damnedtexan1976 Oh what you thinking of getting, and I'm a 15 year old kiwi girl, im learning how to weld with it, I built an electric bike last year and was gonna build an electric gokart with a 30000 watt fork lift motor but my sponsors saw it as to risky, so ducati monster 600 engine :))
Hats off boys! That thing is NUTZ!!!!!
Bro, I run a sub with my computer, that cart is absolutely thunderous! what a machine!
needs some downforce
And better steering
And a cage. I mean the know your nuts but it’s n the rain ?
That engine *needs* to go in the rail.
