The reason why Sunburst got along so well with Starlight's friends is because Starlight unkowingly became friends with ponies that in one way or another remind her of Sunburst. For Starlight, being with them is like being with Sunburst. If this was pre reformed Starlight, she would've done everything to keep him to herself. That's how obssessed she is with Sunburst.

Then why was she so persistent on finding old hobbies that they both may or may not still share? Starlight just wanted to recreate her unfulfilled childhood, it doesnt work. Also if Starlight managed to got along and bonded with Trixie and Maud without even liking what they like, then why did she suddenly feel like her and Sunburst friendship drifted apart when they dont have anything in common anymore, I thought she’d moved on. Starlight was insecure that there were more ponies that have things in common with Sunburst compared to her. Look at how sad she was when Sunburst said he had more things in common with Twilight compared to any one else. She couldn't compete with the other ponies so she used tactics like waking him up at 3am or taking him somewhere like the mirror pool where she thought she could have him to herself. She was trying to find something new for them to bond but when it didn't work, she resorted to the only thing she knew that did work which was the Dragon Pit game. But she enhanced it with magic in a way that creeped Sunburst out. Sunburst isn't hard to impress. He was impressed when Starlight said she travelled back in time during the Crystalling. If this episode is connected to the LoM comics, then it does imply they write to each other often but Sunburst doesn't write back as often as Starlight wants him to.
In this episode Starlight is faced with a terrible decision. In order to save her husbando from getting stolen she'll have to kill all her friends. Because nothing is worse than having your waifu stolen. Fuck you, Timber Spruce.

I don't know. I think the message got a bit muddled. They clearly still had the game in common, but didn't touch on Sunburst feeling too old for it. He just didn't want to be turned into a foal. And that's a big leap of logic, even for Starlight. Maybe it got compressed by the 20 minute episode timer. And maybe Starlight just thought that was the ideal piece of magic to work on. Magic was also pretty clearly what they had in common, but that was sort of left hanging. And the reason they didn't click over anything was partly because things kept getting in the way. But overall, I think it was a very relatable and enjoyable episode, and delivers some great lessons.

I don't know. I think the message got a bit muddled. They clearly still had the game in common, but didn't touch on Sunburst feeling too old for it. He just didn't want to be turned into a foal. And that's a big leap of logic, even for Starlight. Maybe it got compressed by the 20 minute episode timer. And maybe Starlight just thought that was the ideal piece of magic to work on. Magic was also pretty clearly what they had in common, but that was sort of left hanging. And the reason they didn't click over anything was partly because things kept getting in the way. But overall, I think it was a very relatable and enjoyable episode, and delivers some great lessons.
