Can't believe I discovered you through Pandora Music - after a life of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez Judy Collins, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Pete Seeger, John Denver and here you come along and i am blown away by your voicecontent. What a jewel you are and fine musician. How did I miss you all these years? Your voice is so deep and so perfect. I am grateful to have discovered you, even now...and am going to bring all your music into my life....Thank you Ralph for such this find ??? Distinctive musician, you are.......
Just played my first gig on lead electric guitar with a friend who wrote all the songs and a guest said we reminded them of Ralph McTell...so here I am discovering some lovely "new" music. I'll take the compliment!
This song has so much meaning for me but even more so now. My brother has just been admitted for his "last days of care" - We have been told he has just 2 to 3 days left. I will remember my brother every time I perform this song! Thank you so much Ralph!
First heard Ralph sing this song and Streets of London 2 days ago here on You Tube. Have probably listened to them at least at 25 times since then. Cant get them out of mind. The lyrics, the voice, -the whole persona- just beautiful. It’s nice at 71 to discover a new musical genius.
I have seen him live many times. The first time about 1970 at the Lewisham Concert Hall, not many people there; he said: "If you are lonely huddle up at the front." last time was at the South Bank, packed out, Ralph as amazing as ever. As he sang you could hear a pin drop and as everyone joined in the chorus of Streets of London it was like being in heaven. I have replaced most of my vinyl LPs with compact disks but as someone below says - the best way to enjoy Ralph is live. I can't believe he is now about 74; I pray he continues much much longer. Any young people interested in music should have a look at his work. Because of him I had to have a guitar when I was about 14 and playing it has made my life so much better - many thanks Ralph.
Ralph is a regular at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Australia. His concerts are great, but Streets of London with all us aged folkies singing along is very moving. Thanks for posting his young self.
Went to see Ralph in concert this week in West Wales, met him afterwards when he did signings…..what a lovely person…a real humble gent off stage and a true genius on stage…keep strumming son.
I live in Melbourne and have seen Ralph in concert on his numerous tours. That lovely warm personality, the superbly rich melodic voice, to say nothing of his legendary guitar playing. As with most of his fans, there is no doubt that his music is best enjoyed live....the immediacy and crowd support do not make it to the recordings...he is an underated genius and I cannot wait to see him in concert again in March 2019.
Same experience here. There was a British themed pub near me & Streets of London was in their jukebox. I would bring loads of quarters to put inn thee jukebox coin slot to listen to Streets of London as often as I could get away with it ❤🤍💙🇬🇧
Where have all the days been, when we were young? There our youth has been, we seemed to be strong. We listened to the radio, to all famous songs. Thats why we are living and where we belong.(1. verse of an unknown song)
I always thought he was a one hit wonder with “ the streets of London” how wrong have I been and years later have only just discovered what a wonderful talent and performer he is .I just hope I live long enough to see him in concert somewhere near me Scotland!
looking forward to Ralph's concert in Melbourne in March 2024. I first heard Streets of London in the Albert Hall, Methodist Youth weekend in the early 1970's fifty years later still going strong!!
A great song by one of my favorites. This song captures it all, doesn't it? Every once in a while you hear a song that gets right into your soul. Such is Somewhere Down the Road. I love this live version tremendously. Its essence percolates through that soul of mine. Thank you, Ralph!
Just saw Ralph for the 6th and I imagine the last time live in Melbourne. He was superb. Appreciate he can't sing all the favourites, but would have loved to hear this live. Concert was on March 1 and temperature was 100F, which he said made it necessary to retune the Gibson a couple of times.
warm, endearing - that's meeting ralph after a show. solo, that time around. marvelous. natch i've purchased the dvd this vid was taken from. it's on it's way downunder right now. hurrah...
Thanks to Paolo for letting me know and for sending me a lot of McTell's great music (other than his signature song). I played many of them while waiting overnight at Zurich airport one year. ♬‧*˚✧♬ ✿`·
Bloody brilliant! I am going to have this played when it is my time to go! However, the really, really annoying woman on the violin thinks it is her stage, not Ralph's. Replace her perhaps with someone that doesn't do Megahan Markel impressions? No offence in these days of course.
Think the Producer concentrated too much direct main camera on Jane ...sure she played beautifully, but the ace on mandolin was all but ignored and there could also have been more focus on the man of the night.
Just so beautiful, songs with a story, there's no substitute many thanks Ralph 😢😮😊
Been there, done it. As usual Mr McTell hits the nail right on the head yet again . Genius songwriter and performer.m
Long live Ralph McTell, we need people with this kind talent to live long so that he produce more beautiful songs
One of the most pleasant voices I have ever heard and I am a senior.

Same here. Quite the discovery ❤️

I just discovered him this year and listen to him every day now.
Me too 😊 What a joy

FIRST LISTENED TO 'YOU WELL MEANING BROUGHT ME HERE' OVER 45 YEARS AGO, AND I SAW HIM SEVERAL TIMES . TRUE BALLADEER OF OUR TIMES!

A one off entertainer. Singer . Songwriter. Guitarist. He has it all!!!

Have been an admirer of this marvellous musician ever since I heard Streets of London way back in 1970. He just gets better and better.

An absolutely perfect song, if there ever was one. Fantastic. Ralph McTell is a genius and a blessing to us all.

It's a wonderful concert for a 70-year-old
Ralph has always been a class act and a great song-writer
Only heard this song for the first time tonight ... and it's spent about 4 hours on repeat since. I love it. Only ever knew his 70s stuff before.
a highlight, a wonderful voice, simply a great artist and musician!!!
agree
Beautiful performance Thank you Ralph McTell 🎉
Nice to see John Sheahan playing with Ralph McTell.
Still waiting for you to return to Canada. My favourite singer/guitarist. See you somewhere down the road.
the song is in my mind now. I keep thinking of the melody and the lyrics. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Brilliant Ralph as always. Keep going.
A lot of love❤ from Brasil 🇧🇷…

Beautiful song your work is so varied .
Thankyou .

I saw him in Sydney last week. Hoping it was not the last time. He was, as you say, superb.

I have to say that water always tastes better than wine. Even if you like to get drunk.
fantastic
Very philosophical!
Great pianist
Wonderful stuff, Ralph.
2:22 I suddenly feel the urge to learn how to play the violin for some reason ;-)
Well please hurry, I play guitar and am in need of a violinist to play this wonderful song ::(:(
Ha!Ha! you reading my mind?
Is there a difference between the violin and fiddle?
Haahaaa! Every time I read your comment I just grow a happy smile....
@@jeffyost8080 Ha, you are welcome 😉
She actually lives over here in Denmark, so maybe there is still hope ... for some violin lessons 😂
So much of John PRINE'S IMMENSE TALENT WITHIN RALPH'S WONDERFUL WORKS
HOW OLD IS THE J50 HE IS PLAYING? A LEGEND IS WHAT YOU ARE RALPH.
❤❤
Bloody brilliant! I am going to have this played when it is my time to go! However, the really, really annoying woman on the violin thinks it is her stage, not Ralph's. Replace her perhaps with someone that doesn't do Megahan Markel impressions? No offence in these days of course.
Er bringt uns England ganz nah, und trotz Brexit bleibt Hoffnung.
On way back
Joli !
on fiddle Jane Clark and John Sheahan
I think Jane thought she was meant to be on centre stage during this song!
She sure got my attention. Still does....
One of Ireland's treasures -John Sheahan
Think the Producer concentrated too much direct main camera on Jane ...sure she played beautifully, but the ace on mandolin was all but ignored and there could also have been more focus on the man of the night.
I loved the mandolin sounds.
