I owned more than 25 cars in the last 20 years (including 4 Lexus and 2 Acura) + I drove in average at least 10 different cars every year (some years even 30+) in the last 15 years. Now I have a Rav4 Plug-In (303 or 306 HP, not sure exactly, 0 to 100 in less than 5,5 seconds etc etc etc) + a Yaris Cross (116 HP, a reasonable dynamic car) + a Dacia Spring ...When I drive in the city, Spring is the most relaxing car out of the 25+ cars I owned + 150-200 rented cars I drove in my life. Period! Light, narrow, quiet, incredible easy to drive and to turn the steering wheel ...I don't care of scratches, I don't care of fuel cost, I don't care of heating up the water and waiting for the oil to reach the required pressure, I don't care of anything... it's a pure pleasure to own and drive this tiny car!!! Did I say the annual revision cost me 40 euros...?

I'd happily take the loss in safety in exchange for a much cheaper cost, to be honest. If it's a city car, the worst accident that the car will ever see is a bump here and there. Also, it will always be safer than a scooter or any other equivalent city runabout. Great video, by the way. I really like your reviews. Greetings from Portugal.
Actually the safety is not that bad. EuroNcap has drastically increased standards with useless driving aids and this one doesn't have any. You go back two years it might actually have a good rating.
@@mrniceguy6050 they're not useless if they improve the overall safety of occupants & pedestrians. e.g. a Dacia might rear end another car, or strike a pedestrian whereas automatic emergency braking might have stopped the car, or at least reduced the impact. That's why testing regimes take that sort of thing into account. But that isn't this car's only problem - it's crap in old-school collision tests too. Not really surprising given its Renault Kwid DNA.
@@drxym where did you see that the impact ratings were bad? What I saw they were very comparable to those of my 5 star vw golf. Actually the Spring has the same emergency braking as that one as well. I’m glad you find them useful, I never crashed once and never needed any aides to help me with that.
I'm not sure the new Euro Ncap system is fair. As you mentioned, the car scored 3 stars in passive protection and got 1 star because it has limited active safety. It would actually be interesting to see you review the new Ncap scoring system and evaluate what would do better: a new car that gets 1 star now vs a 10 year old car that got a high number of stars back then. This "lowest star" system just seems to me like it's favoring the full option models.
I would like to hear your take on EuroNCAP, too. With all those "active safety" features, I thing that EuroNCAP testing lost its relevance. Car that will rip the steering wheel out of your hands, or brake on its own, is IMO less safe, not more. I certainly don't want that in my car.
As we're going towards autonomous driving some systems can feel overwhelming, especially if you change cars every 7-10 years. I know many of us like to drive in a spirited manner, which may not always be the right way to drive. If the safety system implementation is good, you should not feel it too much as long as you drive reasonably. Driving new cars with all the most recent systems over the last 15 years or so, I feel I became a safer and less aggressive driver. But I had the privilege of getting to know those systems gradually for many years.
@@MarekDrivesENG Autonomous driving is not a big problem for me. Manufacturers will be responsible for all crashes. Right now, I'm responsible, even if the crash was caused by "Active Safety" chicken brain computer. Actually, calling these systems chicken brain is quite offensive. Real chicken brain is several orders of magnitude more powerfull. These systems are massively upredictable. Instead of just driving, I have to be always prepared to fight with it. If I don't switch them off, which is not always possible/easy. I often drive multiple different cars of different vintage in one day. I thing your more sedate driving style has more to do with your age, I do the same.
The NCAP rating system changes over time to take into account new passenger / pedestrian safety systems as they become standard features in vehicles. So I don't think it's about "fairness", but the fact that this car is a crappy old platform and even with a modicum of stiffening & extra safety equipment is still very poor compared to its peers. Maybe 10 years ago it would have gotten a higher rating but it's not an excuse for Dacia / Renault putting out a car like this now. The Renault Zoe also gets a risible zero star NCAP rating and that vehicle doesn't even have the dangerous junk car DNA that the Spring has.
I love it! Feels like a battery operated toy car :-) Last mile delivery people commuter. To take the kids with this to kindergarden and school is perfect tool. In an internal combustion engine car you will not have heating within that some kilometers and will continuously kill the technic with lots of cold starts. Passenger cell is stable in euroncap test, offers six airbags and it has emergency braking system. That is not bothering me if it got only one star due to missing lane keep assist and some other assistants in a city car. If someone judge this car based on only the euroncap stars that needs an update about the content of the stars in 2022. The other point is where an update is needed the difference between the horsepower and torque. High horsepower is needed for high top speed which is not important in case of a city car. 125 Nm torque is equal to top torque of a 1.4 petrol suction engine but in case of this electric car that torque is available from zero speed so you feel that strong up to 50-60 km/h.
I disagree with your statement about ICE. It damages ICE to use them when they're not at proper temperature, and they also heat up quite quickly, _especially_ when being driven. The big concern I have with this vehicle is that in the winter snow and ice could scrape the bottom of the vehicle, not only damaging it to fail, but possibly even start a fire, _destroying the entire vehicle._ And to get an after-market company to protect the underside properly will probably cost like 50% of the entire cost of the vehicle or something. I think it would be a good vehicle for a place that doesn't get too cold (too cold being like -20), and which doesn't get too much snow fall and/or which has really excellent snow clearing/plowing.
@@MsHojat I wrote that cold starts kill the technic. In an electric car there is no cold start really. We have less and less snow covered days from year to year but I am also worrying about the bottom of the car (car body) so I am going to have a rust prevention coating treatment before winter (about 350 EURs) From battery point of view I think we should not worry because that must be a stainless steel covered one. Electric connectors and cables are standard orange high performance parts for electric cars so should not be bothered by salt spraying from wheels. The biggest bang is cheap transport cost (electricity bill) 100 kms are cost about 0.8 EUR while our economical consumption ICE car has 16 times higher petrol cost! But we have a solar panel system on the roof so practically we can charge the Spring at home for free. We have got very nice range numbers since spring (not the car but season) With one full charge we have about 300 kms range in the city where we live. But I am aware that in the winter we will get less range and higher electricity consumption.
In Bulgaria there are no EV subsidies and the Dacia Spring starts from 15600 euro - still a bargain and driving it feels like an overgrown toy car :) I would not leave the city in one, though.
I bought this car for my daily commute (30km/day) going in and out of a city and it's more than enough to be honest. It cost me 13k euros and 27 euros in insurance per month and that's it since I recharge at the office. I also put my 2 kids in the back seats (4 and 7 yo) without any problems. The euro NCAP test is complete garbage, the Zoe has 0 star while being the most sold electric car by Renault, this one has 1 star and every review mentions it. This car does its job perfectly.
Finally an accurate and honest review. Thank you for providing useful information, not only the pros of a car. I saw more of your reviews and I like the way you present the cars. This is the reason I subscribed to your channel. I hope you stay this way for the years to come. Keep up the good work.

Apart from the poor safety record, exposed high voltage wiring, poor ground clearance, awful acceleration, boot that can’t stay up, no split folding seat, it sounds ideal.
This polish presenter clearly expects a Lexus or Bentley for 15.000 €. He does not know what the Spring is for, because in Poland where he is from, everybody is a snob, like most slavic people, and like their Audi A6 Avant and BMW s. So no space and zero understanding for anything else. Move over to France, Spain, Italy, Germany and UK even, and they all understand the purpose of this car and what it is supposed to acchieve. Essentially freedom for the masses and a great statement, plus a genuinely good little car that you don't have to service for oil or engine, eco friendly and cheap to run so you have money left for a deposit in a house. Not to mention car sharing in cities. Something that Marek does not have understanding for. After all, he would never even dream of letting anyone drive his precious Audi A6 that he cleans everyday. He would be a mear peasant. Everybody else loves this little car for what it is and means. Getting from point A to point B in an eco-friendly, no fuss, no disturbance manner.

It is safe enough, you are never going to be going that fast any way in it, I doubt you will see families cramming inside going for the motorway on a weekend away. Rest assured some intelligent people designed this and knew what they were doing and who they pitch it for. Poland does not even have this, all it has is diesel 5 series, estate, from 2014-2016. And Audi. And using them to go to work every day. In Paris and Berlin the situation is different, thank god.
Have gotten my Spring today. Was not expecting much from such a cheap car. Really nothing more than 4 wheels and a battery. It does have it's defects (pedals). But generally, it's a fun city car to drive. Acceleration is more than enough. Top speed - who does 125 kmh in city?... It does have more gigs than expected, so that's a pleasant surprise. But it's mixed content. Some things are annoying some are ok. Overall, it does leave you with a smile after driving it. Don't know why. Have driven Teslas and it's cool and al that. But this little thing? Idk, it jusy seems happy. And leaving the gas mercs in the rear wgile departing stop lights? In a tiny Dacia? Priceless (hint: ECO mode always off when you're first at a stop light).
Congrats! Just got mine too and boy I'm glad I did it based on my own research and not on internet trolls comments. It's really fun to drive and lately I honestly drive it more than my other 'gas' car. Its quick, easy to drive and emissions free, perfect for the city.
For a city car is a genius car. Also possible in future to make a facelist with LED lights like in new Sandero and problem solved. EV's in general don't have range for long trips,I don't like the idea to take rest where charging points are. For example I drive from Constanta RO to Rotterdam NL in 2 days,2400 km. I just saw your video with BMW I Ski trip. Work's only for people who have lot of freetime.
I think driving over 1k km a day is a risky idea, but I understand sometimes you don't have 2 days to get somewhere. Assuming I'd have to do it, it seems if would have added no more than 90 minutes to the whole trip, as long as there was proper rapid charging along the way. So 500 km to drive out of Warsaw to the border, and then getting back is a problem. With good infrastructure, if we factor in normal breaks (toilet, food, rest), the 90 minutes could go down to 60. I just wasn't sure, how the car would perform, and what the infrastructure would be like in the more electrified part of Europe. Even BMW is very vague about its charging partners, so it's hard to plan anything not knowing the situation on the ground. Today if I had to do a 1k km in a day road trip in an EV with 250-300 km real-life range across Western Europe, I wouldn't hesitate. It's doable, and it wouldn't take much longer, than my normal ICE car drive. I like to stop every 2 hours or so anyway, so that's exactly what I need to recharge.

I don't know what you expect to receive for 11 k ...lol 🤣. You are that kind of people who don't want to pay more but receve one range rover 🤣🤣. I have one and I pay 7.5 k € after all discounts and is great for city's !! I also have solar panels who cost me just 800€ from 5 k after government programs and looks how with just 8.3 k I drive for free for the next 10 y . It is what it is !

The car shows clearly what compromises have to be made with BEVs, as for less than the amount a Spring costs you can buy a car like the Sandero which is actually by far more capable. Yeah, if you are some kind of an eco-idealist, the Spring is great, but if you are normal thinking person you will not buy for that amount such a car.

Just for your record, a single star in Euro NCAP means atleast a 3 star in Global NCAP. I should say, Spring does a good job in terms of safety for a €11000 passenger vehicle.
Safety standards differ across regions, and develop over time. Back when Euro NCAP started, walking out alive of a crash was considered a decent result. I know the Spring is a city car, which should rarely exceed 50 km/h, but it is not alone on the road.
@@MarekDrivesENG honestly id rather drive a 195 hp piece of crap than any 44 hp car, as long as it isnt literally falling apart. That is from personal experience. Well maybe not 44 hp but 90 is just not enough, 44 is.. not my car. I need 150 at least. Believe me, i become a total asshole when im in a really really slow car, not worth it. Maybe if it had 100 hp or so i could recommend it to a friend?
The concept of a cheap electric city car is good. However it needs to be a dedicated ground up build, with Euro Ncap standards applied. Sadly I feel that the days of the "cheap" car is no more in Europe, because of such standards. Apart from the safety aspect the car is perfect for its intended job.

Even if the Spring was about to be sold here in Italy at the beginning of 2021, me and my wife opted for the Renault Twingo ZE as a replacement for her Aygo. After watching yours and several other reviews, I'm still glad we've choose the Twingo and didn't wait the Spring. At least is fun to drive as it is RWD, and has 60kW of peak power, more than enough not to being overwhelmed by trucks on the highways. You got the point of the Spring Cargo, for me it will sold a lot as a last mile delivery car. Cheap, without maintenance, who cares if doesn't go so far, it would be more than enough for that kind of work.
Yes, this is a disposable car. Whenever I get a per-minute rental, I try to pick a Spring. Good choice with the Twingo. How much was it? Were there any incentives?
@@MarekDrivesENG yes, there were a lot of incentives, otherwise it would have been too expensive for us. 10k€ total because we were scrapping a pre €4 car, so it ended up costing 11k€ in medium trim with a couple of optional. The spring would have costed around 1k€ less. For my wife usage, between 20-30km a day outside the city, it's perfect. I just have to find a way to disable the ESP/TCS to have some fun in the big roundabouts.
Radu, Renault did wonders with Dacia. And did all that because they saw an opportunity for profit. As long as the sales are going, they will not change anything. Because it just works. Btw, I really can't wait for the next gen Dacia's, regarding the new designer in charge!
Thanks for the review Marek, you gave much more information about real world use than did the boy racer at Fully Charged. I had hoped that the Marek in English channel would show the car info screens in English. The only difference seems to be the inclusion of sponsor adverts which Americans might be used to but the English are not.
It does not really matter if it does not meet the highest safety standards as the risks of accident in Europe is not really a concern. The most important is something has been made available to the the low income workers,

Good Evening all the way from South Africa. Was looking for your English reviews and then noticed the, Now have and English specific channel. The Renault Kwid has been here from around 2016/2017 with a 1.0 Ltr engine that I can say has been used on numerous long distance drives by friends I know. Long distance for them is around 1500km. The Dacia Spring on the other hand is slower. Boot capacity still looks on average bigger than most bigger cars in the same class. If the combined cycle of 230km could be reached while driving at a constant 80km/h, it should be a doable vehicle for me, as I rarely drive distances that goes above 210km, and wouldn't leave me totally stranded or in turtle mode. I would be annoying other road users to a degree, but the stretch of road that I do my longer distance on, max is 100km/h as it is on a dangerous stretch of road. But otherwise the freeway speed limit is 120km/h. I also rarely drive at 120, I drive between 80 and 100 most of the times and then irregularly 120 and slightly above. So verdict from me: Big enough boot capacity. Range is enough for city driving and as a work only vehicle would work. I would need to charge once a week if I was still at the branch I was travelling to. 150km of the 230 to 270 leaves me with enough for the rest of the week. Safety wise, it has more features than some of the cheaper vehicles on the South African market. Size of vehicle, is bigger than some for passengers and luggage, which is probably why the South African market is loving the Renault Kwid. Rapid chargers here aren't currently above 60kW/h, and you lucky if you don't get a 30kW one with DC capabilities. If it comes, it should be cheaper than our EV's here according to the internet, cheapest to more expensive. 1. Mini Cooper SE 2. BMW i3 (BEV, REx, i3S BEV and REx) 3. Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge 4. BMW IX40/50 5. Audi E-Tron 6. Jaguar I-Pace 7. Porsche Taycan So definitely in need of EV's to come here soon.
I need to go 280 km to my countryside. There are two or three charging ports on the way. Not really a reason to buy it. Romanian government promissed charging infrastructure. We'll see...the car costs 9600 euro as today, march 2022. But you need to bring two old cars, older than 15 years. Also, one junk car older than 6 years is by law required anyway, to get the spring. The regenerative alternator is true only in theory. It will only keep the range still rather than up.
At 6ft the rear foot space is not good to be honest once i fit the drivers seat in my position (almost 90 degrees so its not a relaxed position). But as mentioned in the video, trunk space is fantastic. Not mentioned in the video that there is no adjustment for the steering wheel, no reach or rake. Even tho it has 1 star and Zoe has 0 in NCAP at least for the Spring price closes thing you can buy is a Citroen AMI which isn't categorized as a car but an electric shopping trolley, however that is even more unsafer.
I keep asking myself .......... if an electric car had all of the non essential stuff ripped out of it to make it the cheapest EV, Would this be the car ? I am not so sure.... but then I see the price and think, well maybe it is. I can't put my finger on it if I like this car or not.
Let's look at it this way: since the problem with car-generated pollution is mainly in the cities, then city cars should be electric. And they should be small, and easy to maneuver. Heavy SUVs can do road trips.
A few days ago, we had in Romania an accident and the car involved was a 2 year old E-klasse Mercedes. All diver aides were turned off, so the car plunged through a busy intersection directly into 2 pedestrians. So, all these driver aid systems are useless unless it will mandatory, not to be able to turn them off. This is why ncap ratings are not fair because they take too much into consideration those aids. I am not saying that Spring is the safest small car, but Renault Zoe rating is somehow unfair, just because it lacks new gen safety systems. And, a few years ago it was a 5 ⭐ car.
@Laur Radu turning everything off takes a bit of work, so under normal circumstances the systems would be on. And you can't help the fact that some people are just dicks, and they will do stupid things.
You would be mad to take this on regular motorway trips but if it’s a few miles a day you need it for, possibly. You’d probably be better off with a 3 year old small petrol vehicle

You need to get your info straight Marek. There' a number of Chinese car manufacturers present in Europe already and all of them have EuroNCAP scores on par or higher than most European car models currently on sale. There's a number of videos of tests even on UA-cam documenting that.
As you may have noticed this video is more than a year old. Back then I don't think there were any significant Chinese car brands in Europe, maybe with the exception of MG.

There are German dealers leasing u a Renault Zoe on incentives, 6k eur, for free for 1 year. Then u pay you 🚗 on the remaining amount, still on finance. Makes more sense I seem. On the long 🏃♂️ needless to say they will offer quite more, set in stone. Thanks Marek.
Hello. I have this car for a few days now. I'm wondering about parking on a hill. Is it safe to put in neutral (N) and use a parking brake, or is it better to put in drive (D) or reverse (R) and use a parking brake? I'm afraid the parking brake will loosen and the car will just roll downhill. Thanks for the answer.
Neutral and handbrake only. AFAIR you won't be able to shut the car off and remove the key in D or R. Which, when I think of it now, is not ideal, because in the winter the parking brake line could freeze and get stuck. But it is, what it is.
Vreau sa va impartasesc experienta mea cu Dacia Spring. Am primit-o in decembrie ! Am fost rugat de dealer sa o platesc integral in noiembrie ca aveau "targhet". M-am bucurat ca un copil... 200 km, fatidici, cand am fost lovit de o masina germana. Am crezut ca sunt pe lumea cealalta cand o "domna" a inceput sa vorbeasca cu mine, dupa socul loviturii. Masina, a sunat singura la 112 !!! EXTRAORDINAR !!! Eu, victima. Masina nemteasca, agresorul. Masina nemteasca daune 0, Dacia Spring, am estimat eu, dauna totala. Daca ar fi fost facuta din carton, s-ar fi prezentat mai bine la interactiunea cu VW. Dar totul e bine cand nimeni nu moare asa cum se intampla prin alte colturi ale lumii. Viata si-a urmat cursul, masina a ajuns in reprezentanta Dacia cu promisiunea ca va fi reparata. Asta inainte de sarbatoare nasterii domnului de anul trecut (nu am relatii stranse cu domnul, dar am folosit pretextul pentru a localiza actiunea in timp). A trecut covidul, a venit razboiul iar masina mea tot in REPREZENTANTA DACIA fara sa dea nici un semn de viata pe aplicatie. Dupa 3 luni de asteptare ascetica am considerat ca este momentul sa intervin fulgerator. M-am prezentat usor ciufulit la REPREZENTANTA DACIA revendicandu-mi masina. Rasete. Asta este tot ce am putut obtine. Piesele de schimb necesare nici macar nu au CODURI pentru a putea fi comandate. Am plecat trist caci masina mea de 18.000!!! euro nu poate fi cu mine. Poate intr-o viata viitoare, dupa ce va fi topita, cand va renaste intr-un VW vom fi din nou impreuna. Nu stii ce-ti poate oferi karma
It is good that you also raise the safety issues, as well as the things they have skimped so much on that it can become a quality problem. I think they would have benefited from having a higher price say 5000 euros more and put that money on a slightly bigger engine and more safty. It would still be considered cheap for an EV.
the car has no safety issues at all, just to compare with her more expensive and sophisticated sister, Renault Zoe, Spring has 1 star and Zoe has 0 stars. Most of the stars are allocated for safety stickers or all kind of funny passive and irrelevant safety elements. They don't know what barriers to create to intoxicate people with the idea that it makes sense to pay 2586,35 Euros for a BMW navigation when everybody has a better and free of charge navigation on the mobile phone and you have to pay a subscription of 18 EUR/month in order to heat your a$$ (like BMW is charging some stupid guys) and, in general, to convince people that only cars having a price of at least 200.000 Euro, could be a safe option.
Would this thing be suitable to drive 30km to work and 30km back. On a motorway for most of the journey then into a city. Bearing in mind I'm on a super tight budget I just want to get to work and back don't care about the bells and whistles
Actually this is OKish for what it is. Chinese smart knock-off ZD (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhidou_D2) was probably the worst, because it did everything wrong, and it also reeked of chemicals. But if we're talking about mainstream cars, the early 2000' Chevrolet Aveo was absolutely the worst.

Why is such a outdated, questionable safety , even on sale in Europe. Even if the underpinnings are zoe based. There are plenty of alternatives out there . Dacia can do a lot better than this

The base price depends on the market. It's around 20k euro in Germany, but the next person commenting says in Bulgaria it starts at 15600. This one you're going to have to use the handbrake, otherwise it will roll away.
The price of 21000 euros for this kind of car is outrageous. Yes, there is an electro bonus from the government, but this is only a way for the car manufacturers to have huge profits.

Too many short comings. The exposed cables under the car is worrying and would have cost Dacia very little money to have covered up by a flat piece of steel or plastic. It is cheap for a reason. Good review Marek.

Dacia Spring is certainly a city car. Imagine what it means to drive outside the city, with no possibility to ever by-pass a truck (or even a tractor). Actually, trucks and tractors will for sure by-pass a Spring. Also, think if you'll survive in a one-star car, when you're hit by another car driving with over 90kmh... I'm not even talking about range and battery capacity. That's why its target clients are car/ride-sharing, taxi and delivery companies (there is a special variant) - and the car is perfect for this kind of customers. But the variant for private persons, is unpractical and overpriced.
I owned more than 25 cars in the last 20 years (including 4 Lexus and 2 Acura) + I drove in average at least 10 different cars every year (some years even 30+) in the last 15 years. Now I have a Rav4 Plug-In (303 or 306 HP, not sure exactly, 0 to 100 in less than 5,5 seconds etc etc etc) + a Yaris Cross (116 HP, a reasonable dynamic car) + a Dacia Spring ...When I drive in the city, Spring is the most relaxing car out of the 25+ cars I owned + 150-200 rented cars I drove in my life. Period! Light, narrow, quiet, incredible easy to drive and to turn the steering wheel ...I don't care of scratches, I don't care of fuel cost, I don't care of heating up the water and waiting for the oil to reach the required pressure, I don't care of anything... it's a pure pleasure to own and drive this tiny car!!! Did I say the annual revision cost me 40 euros...?

If driving a bike around town is safe, driving the spring is lot safer.
I'd happily take the loss in safety in exchange for a much cheaper cost, to be honest. If it's a city car, the worst accident that the car will ever see is a bump here and there. Also, it will always be safer than a scooter or any other equivalent city runabout.

Actually the safety is not that bad. EuroNcap has drastically increased standards with useless driving aids and this one doesn't have any. You go back two years it might actually have a good rating.

@@mrniceguy6050 they're not useless if they improve the overall safety of occupants & pedestrians. e.g. a Dacia might rear end another car, or strike a pedestrian whereas automatic emergency braking might have stopped the car, or at least reduced the impact. That's why testing regimes take that sort of thing into account. But that isn't this car's only problem - it's crap in old-school collision tests too. Not really surprising given its Renault Kwid DNA.
@@drxym where did you see that the impact ratings were bad? What I saw they were very comparable to those of my 5 star vw golf. Actually the Spring has the same emergency braking as that one as well. I’m glad you find them useful, I never crashed once and never needed any aides to help me with that.
I'm not sure the new Euro Ncap system is fair. As you mentioned, the car scored 3 stars in passive protection and got 1 star because it has limited active safety. It would actually be interesting to see you review the new Ncap scoring system and evaluate what would do better: a new car that gets 1 star now vs a 10 year old car that got a high number of stars back then. This "lowest star" system just seems to me like it's favoring the full option models.
Euro NCAP changes the scoring system every few years. This might have got a pass back in 2015, but we're 7 years later.
I would like to hear your take on EuroNCAP, too. With all those "active safety" features, I thing that EuroNCAP testing lost its relevance. Car that will rip the steering wheel out of your hands, or brake on its own, is IMO less safe, not more. I certainly don't want that in my car.
As we're going towards autonomous driving some systems can feel overwhelming, especially if you change cars every 7-10 years. I know many of us like to drive in a spirited manner, which may not always be the right way to drive. If the safety system implementation is good, you should not feel it too much as long as you drive reasonably.
Driving new cars with all the most recent systems over the last 15 years or so, I feel I became a safer and less aggressive driver. But I had the privilege of getting to know those systems gradually for many years.

Autonomous driving is not a big problem for me. Manufacturers will be responsible for all crashes. Right now, I'm responsible, even if the crash was caused by "Active Safety" chicken brain computer. Actually, calling these systems chicken brain is quite offensive. Real chicken brain is several orders of magnitude more powerfull.
These systems are massively upredictable. Instead of just driving, I have to be always prepared to fight with it. If I don't switch them off, which is not always possible/easy. I often drive multiple different cars of different vintage in one day.
I thing your more sedate driving style has more to do with your age, I do the same.
The NCAP rating system changes over time to take into account new passenger / pedestrian safety systems as they become standard features in vehicles. So I don't think it's about "fairness", but the fact that this car is a crappy old platform and even with a modicum of stiffening & extra safety equipment is still very poor compared to its peers. Maybe 10 years ago it would have gotten a higher rating but it's not an excuse for Dacia / Renault putting out a car like this now. The Renault Zoe also gets a risible zero star NCAP rating and that vehicle doesn't even have the dangerous junk car DNA that the Spring has.
I love it! Feels like a battery operated toy car :-) Last mile delivery people commuter. To take the kids with this to kindergarden and school is perfect tool.
In an internal combustion engine car you will not have heating within that some kilometers and will continuously kill the technic with lots of cold starts.
Passenger cell is stable in euroncap test, offers six airbags and it has emergency braking system. That is not bothering me if it got only one star due to missing lane keep assist and some other assistants in a city car. If someone judge this car based on only the euroncap stars that needs an update about the content of the stars in 2022.
The other point is where an update is needed the difference between the horsepower and torque. High horsepower is needed for high top speed which is not important in case of a city car. 125 Nm torque is equal to top torque of a 1.4 petrol suction engine but in case of this electric car that torque is available from zero speed so you feel that strong up to 50-60 km/h.
I disagree with your statement about ICE. It damages ICE to use them when they're not at proper temperature, and they also heat up quite quickly, _especially_ when being driven.
The big concern I have with this vehicle is that in the winter snow and ice could scrape the bottom of the vehicle, not only damaging it to fail, but possibly even start a fire, _destroying the entire vehicle._ And to get an after-market company to protect the underside properly will probably cost like 50% of the entire cost of the vehicle or something.
I think it would be a good vehicle for a place that doesn't get too cold (too cold being like -20), and which doesn't get too much snow fall and/or which has really excellent snow clearing/plowing.
@@MsHojat I wrote that cold starts kill the technic. In an electric car there is no cold start really. We have less and less snow covered days from year to year but I am also worrying about the bottom of the car (car body) so I am going to have a rust prevention coating treatment before winter (about 350 EURs) From battery point of view I think we should not worry because that must be a stainless steel covered one. Electric connectors and cables are standard orange high performance parts for electric cars so should not be bothered by salt spraying from wheels.
The biggest bang is cheap transport cost (electricity bill) 100 kms are cost about 0.8 EUR while our economical consumption ICE car has 16 times higher petrol cost!
But we have a solar panel system on the roof so practically we can charge the Spring at home for free.
We have got very nice range numbers since spring (not the car but season) With one full charge we have about 300 kms range in the city where we live. But I am aware that in the winter we will get less range and higher electricity consumption.
I need something with a longer range but if I needed a car just for the city, I would definitely get the Spring and enjoy the extra cash in my pocket
In Bulgaria there are no EV subsidies and the Dacia Spring starts from 15600 euro - still a bargain and driving it feels like an overgrown toy car :)
I would not leave the city in one, though.
In Romania there is a 10.000€ ecobunus or max.50% and it starts at 8250€ !!!

I bought this car for my daily commute (30km/day) going in and out of a city and it's more than enough to be honest. It cost me 13k euros and 27 euros in insurance per month and that's it since I recharge at the office. I also put my 2 kids in the back seats (4 and 7 yo) without any problems. The euro NCAP test is complete garbage, the Zoe has 0 star while being the most sold electric car by Renault, this one has 1 star and every review mentions it. This car does its job perfectly.
Finally an accurate and honest review. Thank you for providing useful information, not only the pros of a car. I saw more of your reviews and I like the way you present the cars. This is the reason I subscribed to your channel. I hope you stay this way for the years to come. Keep up the good work.

This polish presenter clearly expects a Lexus or Bentley for 15.000 €. He does not know what the Spring is for, because in Poland where he is from, everybody is a snob, like most slavic people, and like their Audi A6 Avant and BMW s. So no space and zero understanding for anything else. Move over to France, Spain, Italy, Germany and UK even, and they all understand the purpose of this car and what it is supposed to acchieve. Essentially freedom for the masses and a great statement, plus a genuinely good little car that you don't have to service for oil or engine, eco friendly and cheap to run so you have money left for a deposit in a house. Not to mention car sharing in cities. Something that Marek does not have understanding for. After all, he would never even dream of letting anyone drive his precious Audi A6 that he cleans everyday. He would be a mear peasant. Everybody else loves this little car for what it is and means. Getting from point A to point B in an eco-friendly, no fuss, no disturbance manner.
The only thing I expect from this car is to be safe, which it is not particularly.

Rest assured some intelligent people designed this and knew what they were doing and who they pitch it for. Poland does not even have this, all it has is diesel 5 series, estate, from 2014-2016. And Audi. And using them to go to work every day. In Paris and Berlin the situation is different, thank god.

Have gotten my Spring today. Was not expecting much from such a cheap car. Really nothing more than 4 wheels and a battery.
It does have it's defects (pedals). But generally, it's a fun city car to drive. Acceleration is more than enough. Top speed - who does 125 kmh in city?...
It does have more gigs than expected, so that's a pleasant surprise. But it's mixed content. Some things are annoying some are ok.
Overall, it does leave you with a smile after driving it. Don't know why. Have driven Teslas and it's cool and al that.
But this little thing? Idk, it jusy seems happy. And leaving the gas mercs in the rear wgile departing stop lights? In a tiny Dacia? Priceless (hint: ECO mode always off when you're first at a stop light).
Congrats! Just got mine too and boy I'm glad I did it based on my own research and not on internet trolls comments. It's really fun to drive and lately I honestly drive it more than my other 'gas' car. Its quick, easy to drive and emissions free, perfect for the city.

EV's in general don't have range for long trips,I don't like the idea to take rest where charging points are.
For example I drive from Constanta RO to Rotterdam NL in 2 days,2400 km.

I think driving over 1k km a day is a risky idea, but I understand sometimes you don't have 2 days to get somewhere. Assuming I'd have to do it, it seems if would have added no more than 90 minutes to the whole trip, as long as there was proper rapid charging along the way. So 500 km to drive out of Warsaw to the border, and then getting back is a problem. With good infrastructure, if we factor in normal breaks (toilet, food, rest), the 90 minutes could go down to 60. I just wasn't sure, how the car would perform, and what the infrastructure would be like in the more electrified part of Europe. Even BMW is very vague about its charging partners, so it's hard to plan anything not knowing the situation on the ground.
Today if I had to do a 1k km in a day road trip in an EV with 250-300 km real-life range across Western Europe, I wouldn't hesitate. It's doable, and it wouldn't take much longer, than my normal ICE car drive. I like to stop every 2 hours or so anyway, so that's exactly what I need to recharge.
First I thought, influenced by other testers, that it was a cool, little car.

Just for your record, a single star in Euro NCAP means atleast a 3 star in Global NCAP. I should say, Spring does a good job in terms of safety for a €11000 passenger vehicle.
Safety standards differ across regions, and develop over time. Back when Euro NCAP started, walking out alive of a crash was considered a decent result. I know the Spring is a city car, which should rarely exceed 50 km/h, but it is not alone on the road.

This is officially the slowest accelerating vehicle in the European Union with a 0-100kmh time of 19 seconds, but Marek did it in almost 22 seconds.
The default setup for an acceleration test calls for an extremely frail driver with just 75 kgs weight.

The concept of a cheap electric city car is good. However it needs to be a dedicated ground up build, with Euro Ncap standards applied. Sadly I feel that the days of the "cheap" car is no more in Europe, because of such standards. Apart from the safety aspect the car is perfect for its intended job.
Back in 2015 it would probably get 3-4 stars, like most Dacias in those days.

Even if the Spring was about to be sold here in Italy at the beginning of 2021, me and my wife opted for the Renault Twingo ZE as a replacement for her Aygo.
After watching yours and several other reviews, I'm still glad we've choose the Twingo and didn't wait the Spring.
At least is fun to drive as it is RWD, and has 60kW of peak power, more than enough not to being overwhelmed by trucks on the highways.
You got the point of the Spring Cargo, for me it will sold a lot as a last mile delivery car.
Cheap, without maintenance, who cares if doesn't go so far, it would be more than enough for that kind of work.
Yes, this is a disposable car. Whenever I get a per-minute rental, I try to pick a Spring.

@@MarekDrivesENG yes, there were a lot of incentives, otherwise it would have been too expensive for us.
10k€ total because we were scrapping a pre €4 car, so it ended up costing 11k€ in medium trim with a couple of optional.
The spring would have costed around 1k€ less.
For my wife usage, between 20-30km a day outside the city, it's perfect.
I just have to find a way to disable the ESP/TCS to have some fun in the big roundabouts.

Good Evening all the way from South Africa.
Was looking for your English reviews and then noticed the, Now have and English specific channel.
The Renault Kwid has been here from around 2016/2017 with a 1.0 Ltr engine that I can say has been used on numerous long distance drives by friends I know. Long distance for them is around 1500km.
The Dacia Spring on the other hand is slower. Boot capacity still looks on average bigger than most bigger cars in the same class. If the combined cycle of 230km could be reached while driving at a constant 80km/h, it should be a doable vehicle for me, as I rarely drive distances that goes above 210km, and wouldn't leave me totally stranded or in turtle mode. I would be annoying other road users to a degree, but the stretch of road that I do my longer distance on, max is 100km/h as it is on a dangerous stretch of road. But otherwise the freeway speed limit is 120km/h. I also rarely drive at 120, I drive between 80 and 100 most of the times and then irregularly 120 and slightly above.
So verdict from me:
Big enough boot capacity.
Range is enough for city driving and as a work only vehicle would work. I would need to charge once a week if I was still at the branch I was travelling to. 150km of the 230 to 270 leaves me with enough for the rest of the week.
Safety wise, it has more features than some of the cheaper vehicles on the South African market.
Size of vehicle, is bigger than some for passengers and luggage, which is probably why the South African market is loving the Renault Kwid.
Rapid chargers here aren't currently above 60kW/h, and you lucky if you don't get a 30kW one with DC capabilities.
If it comes, it should be cheaper than our EV's here according to the internet, cheapest to more expensive.

I need to go 280 km to my countryside. There are two or three charging ports on the way. Not really a reason to buy it. Romanian government promissed charging infrastructure. We'll see...the car costs 9600 euro as today, march 2022. But you need to bring two old cars, older than 15 years. Also, one junk car older than 6 years is by law required anyway, to get the spring. The regenerative alternator is true only in theory. It will only keep the range still rather than up.

At 6ft the rear foot space is not good to be honest once i fit the drivers seat in my position (almost 90 degrees so its not a relaxed position). But as mentioned in the video, trunk space is fantastic. Not mentioned in the video that there is no adjustment for the steering wheel, no reach or rake. Even tho it has 1 star and Zoe has 0 in NCAP at least for the Spring price closes thing you can buy is a Citroen AMI which isn't categorized as a car but an electric shopping trolley, however that is even more unsafer.
For 11k I'd buy it!

Let's look at it this way: since the problem with car-generated pollution is mainly in the cities, then city cars should be electric. And they should be small, and easy to maneuver. Heavy SUVs can do road trips.

I do think Dacia will sell quite a few of these even with it's low safety rating.
A few days ago, we had in Romania an accident and the car involved was a 2 year old E-klasse Mercedes. All diver aides were turned off, so the car plunged through a busy intersection directly into 2 pedestrians. So, all these driver aid systems are useless unless it will mandatory, not to be able to turn them off. This is why ncap ratings are not fair because they take too much into consideration those aids. I am not saying that Spring is the safest small car, but Renault Zoe rating is somehow unfair, just because it lacks new gen safety systems. And, a few years ago it was a 5 ⭐ car.
@Laur Radu turning everything off takes a bit of work, so under normal circumstances the systems would be on. And you can't help the fact that some people are just dicks, and they will do stupid things.

You would be mad to take this on regular motorway trips but if it’s a few miles a day you need it for, possibly. You’d probably be better off with a 3 year old small petrol vehicle

You need to get your info straight Marek. There' a number of Chinese car manufacturers present in Europe already and all of them have EuroNCAP scores on par or higher than most European car models currently on sale. There's a number of videos of tests even on UA-cam documenting that.
As you may have noticed this video is more than a year old. Back then I don't think there were any significant Chinese car brands in Europe, maybe with the exception of MG.

I do cars, which may be available in the UK, but not the other way round. So for example we don't get MG around here.

Hello. I have this car for a few days now. I'm wondering about parking on a hill. Is it safe to put in neutral (N) and use a parking brake, or is it better to put in drive (D) or reverse (R) and use a parking brake? I'm afraid the parking brake will loosen and the car will just roll downhill. Thanks for the answer.
Neutral and handbrake only. AFAIR you won't be able to shut the car off and remove the key in D or R.
Which, when I think of it now, is not ideal, because in the winter the parking brake line could freeze and get stuck. But it is, what it is.

Masina, a sunat singura la 112 !!! EXTRAORDINAR !!! Eu, victima. Masina
nemteasca, agresorul. Masina nemteasca daune 0, Dacia Spring, am
estimat eu, dauna totala. Daca ar fi fost facuta din carton, s-ar fi
prezentat mai bine la interactiunea cu VW.

colturi ale lumii. Viata si-a urmat cursul, masina a ajuns in
reprezentanta Dacia cu promisiunea ca va fi reparata. Asta inainte de

trecut covidul, a venit razboiul iar masina mea tot in REPREZENTANTA

fulgerator. M-am prezentat usor ciufulit la REPREZENTANTA DACIA
revendicandu-mi masina.

It is good that you also raise the safety issues, as well as the things they have skimped so much on that it can become a quality problem. I think they would have benefited from having a higher price say 5000 euros more and put that money on a slightly bigger engine and more safty. It would still be considered cheap for an EV.

the car has no safety issues at all, just to compare with her more expensive and sophisticated sister, Renault Zoe, Spring has 1 star and Zoe has 0 stars. Most of the stars are allocated for safety stickers or all kind of funny passive and irrelevant safety elements. They don't know what barriers to create to intoxicate people with the idea that it makes sense to pay 2586,35 Euros for a BMW navigation when everybody has a better and free of charge navigation on the mobile phone and you have to pay a subscription of 18 EUR/month in order to heat your a$$ (like BMW is charging some stupid guys) and, in general, to convince people that only cars having a price of at least 200.000 Euro, could be a safe option.
Would this thing be suitable to drive 30km to work and 30km back. On a motorway for most of the journey then into a city.
Bearing in mind I'm on a super tight budget I just want to get to work and back don't care about the bells and whistles

Actually this is OKish for what it is. Chinese smart knock-off ZD (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhidou_D2) was probably the worst, because it did everything wrong, and it also reeked of chemicals. But if we're talking about mainstream cars, the early 2000' Chevrolet Aveo was absolutely the worst.

Why is such a outdated, questionable safety , even on sale in Europe. Even if the underpinnings are zoe based. There are plenty of alternatives out there . Dacia can do a lot better than this

The base price depends on the market. It's around 20k euro in Germany, but the next person commenting says in Bulgaria it starts at 15600.
This one you're going to have to use the handbrake, otherwise it will roll away.

Too many short comings. The exposed cables under the car is worrying and would have cost Dacia very little money to have covered up by a flat piece of steel or plastic. It is cheap for a reason. Good review Marek.

Dacia Spring is certainly a city car. Imagine what it means to drive outside the city, with no possibility to ever by-pass a truck (or even a tractor). Actually, trucks and tractors will for sure by-pass a Spring. Also, think if you'll survive in a one-star car, when you're hit by another car driving with over 90kmh... I'm not even talking about range and battery capacity. That's why its target clients are car/ride-sharing, taxi and delivery companies (there is a special variant) - and the car is perfect for this kind of customers. But the variant for private persons, is unpractical and overpriced.
I think this is not the normal consumer version based on the seats and wind-wiper
