  • In his first major TV interview, a tearful Will Smith reveals what led up to him slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. Smith says the slap was due to bottled-up rage. Smith appeared on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" to promote his new film, "Emancipation." It's his first movie since the Oscars fiasco. Smith says he understands the movie may face an uphill battle at the box office because people may not want to see him. However, he hopes people will still watch the film.

Well, when you think you were doing what was right at the moment, you party. However, God has a way of letting us know that our actions were not right and makes us repent. Yes, you'll have to suffer the consequences of your actions and look crazy in society for a time while he humbles you, but then God tells you to get back into society again to show them that I am a forgiving God and I can restore you before those who write you off as a has-been because I AM is the Great I AM.

I have no doubt Will Smith sincerely feels bad about this. He seems to be a decent enough guy, and he obviously knows he screwed up. What's really odd ... if you go back and watch the moment ... is that Chris Rock makes the joke, and we see Will Smith chuckling at it, and Jada is sort of rolling her eyes, but it's not like she looks furious or hurt. The camera goes back to Chris Rock, and the next thing we know Will Smith is storming onto the stage. I wish we could see the camera that was on Will and Jada to see how he went from chuckling to out of control in a matter of seconds. FWIW, that joke honestly was fairly tame for Oscar night, when it is expected that the hosts will poke fun at the celebrities in attendance. Earlier that night, one of the hosts (Amy Schumer? I forget who it was) made a joke about Leo DiCaprio's tendency to date women half his age and it actually drew a gasp from the crowd. And some laughs. But the it drew a bigger "did they really go there?" response than Chris Rock's G.I. Jane joke.

Never heard of splashwashing before..? I should look that up.
I thought the reasons he gave were understandable .. hmm
Like how else would people expect for him to show remorse? Declining a role I can understand ..
Maybe talking more about how it must have felt for Chris Rock ?
I’m really trying to understand because what if I sound so conceited myself I’d like to know

There's just something so odd about the way he explains things...like a weird, dramatized delivery. And can't seem to say: "It was just soo wrong...what I did."

Do good people make mistakes ? Why is it we can find forgiveness for all types of people but when a good person makes a mistake we crucify him ? Did Chris rock get a scratch did he get bruised ? Stitches? A hospital visit ? a slap is not what the world is making will smith out to be. He’s been an unbelievable role model and he’s had s lot of accomplishments I’m sure this has made him think things over in life and it’s easy to throw someone down when they’re down already but it’s greater to still recognize that great people sometimes lose themselves as well and we all need forgiveness and a 2nd chance and not forgetting all the good we’ve done
