I live in Ironton and I tried to find out where the jail would have been in 1888. Unfortunately it looks like it was torn down to make room for the current jail. We have one jail that should be about the right time period, but it was the city jail, and I'm confident that Gillespie would have been held at the county jail. It is driving me crazy trying to figure out why they would have taken him to Welston Ohio! I realize that Ironton and Cattletsburg would have been stop overs due to the distance, but I just can't figure out why Welston?!
Thank you guys I had the following head feeling McCoy for very long time and didn't know more of the history for you guys have gave me more knowledge thank you
Is it possible to see the letter from Gillespie? Sounds to well written for the time period. Johnse Hatfields wife didn’t move in with Frank Phillips until 5 months after Johnse left to go west.
I'm not sure about seeing the letter, you would have to research that part out yourself. It was certified as his words by two people at that time, I'm not sure of the names as I don't remember now. But all this was found through my heritage and ancestry old newspaper etc. There is a lot of stories about Nancy's time frame, who knows for sure but her and the people involved in her life? I have done a lot of these videos and find nothing but contractions by different so called reliable sources. I take nothing for face value anymore. I'm sure you can Google Gillespie's info and find out more. Are you related to the Vance side?
I am related to James Vance. He is my 3rd great uncle. Between myself and a couple of cousins and friends, we have done extensive research on James. He has been lied on so many times that I can’t remember all of them. I have spent the last 2 years tracing his military background. The movie said he was a lone wolf crazy man. Jim was nothing of the kind. He was married to Mary Collins with 5 children, a Deputy Sheriff, a Constable, a Justice of the Peace, Business Man employing 75 people, and was in the Civil War with the 34th BA Cav under Lt Col Vincent Witcher. They fought over 70 battles and Skirmishes in Washington DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He was in Narrows VA when Asa McCoy died from frostbite. So you can see that I don’t believe very much of the folklore.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for a great storyline with this letter. It's really Informative. I'm no relation to either Hatfield or McCoy but this fued has always been an interest.
Great video guys thanks you’re always teaching us something really cool and very interesting and full of information. Thanks again happy holidays merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family. Can’t wait till next year to see cool videos you put out. Thanks again.
An hour later A all out battle broke broke out the Hatfields and The McCoys begin blasting away at each other on the battlefield it could have gone well had the Lawman himself Bass Reeves amass a posse and took it to The Hatfields and The McCoys both sides would have been screwed
It is very interesting to hear the story in the words from someone who was there I hope both of you have a great New Year's Eve & a very Happy Healthy New Year. I look forward to the next video
Interesting video. So, Alifair was shot because she could identify the Hatfields involved in the attack on the McCoy family home? I wonder who really shot her, Cap or Cottontop? Thank you very much Leo and Heather, for another interesting video. Have a great weekend. 😊
I'm a Hatfield and McCoy descendant and I thank you so much for keeping their story alive
your welcome!

Happy New year 🎉
So sad. Killing kids who had nothing to do with it.
Tragic errors. Highly charged emotions. Compounded by bad & worse decisions. May they rest in peace.
Indeed
