There needs to be a part 2 of this! I loved every moment. Listening to to beautiful, intelligent women talk about clams was amazing. I loved both these ladies growing up.
@Mayim Bialik Practicing Roman Catholic here. Christmas is celebrated in the Catholic Church from Christmas Eve evening up until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which falls on January 7-13th depending on the year. We celebrate the three kings typically the second Sunday after Christmas Day, on the Feast of the Epiphany. The three kings were not Jewish, they were Gentile-this is an important detail because in the feast of the Epiphany we remember Jesus the Messiah first making Himself known to the Gentiles. I believe the song “12 days of Christmas” was based on counting 12 days from December 25th to January 6th, as the latter was when Epiphany was celebrated (it’s now been moved to usually fall on the second Sunday after Christmas). Catholic Christmas is a bit different from how many Protestants celebrate it in that Christmas is a liturgical season lasting 2-3 weeks, so we can take it all in. Advent is the 4 week period before Christmas in which we prepare our own hearts for Christ’s coming. The first three weeks have liturgical readings focusing on Christ’s second coming, which we believe will come at the eschaton (the end of this present world and the beginning of the next). The last week before Christmas Day we focus on readings leading up to Christ’s first coming in Bethlehem. In any case, Christmas carols are not sung at Mass until Christmas Eve (although carols with an expectation/waiting character, like “O come O come Emmanuel” May be sung during Advent. Although Advent is somewhat of a penitential season, it’s more about expectation and preparation than Lent is. Hope some of this was helpful, loved the interview!
Thank you for writing all of this! May I also add that in many Latin American countries, especially Puerto Rico, the feast of the epiphany is celebrated as a huge part of Christmas time. It does not matter what day of the week it falls. The Sunday closest to January 6 is celebrated in the Catholic Church still, however, as the feast of the Epiphany.
It was cute seeing Melissa explain Advent to Mayim. My mom grew up Luthern so Advent was always part of our family Christmas traditions. But our Advent calendars didn't have items in them! It was just opening the cardboard door and seeing what the picture would be.
Also, yes, the 12 days of Christmas are related to the three wise men. (In some translations they are called Magi, which possibly means court astrologers.) It just says they came from the East but we don't know where, exactly. The feast of the Epiphany is January 6, which is the traditional day the wise men came. In England the night before Epiphany used to be called Twelfth Night because Epiphany is 12 days after Christmas!
We didn't have cable, but my Grandma did. So anytime we were at Grandma's and the show was on, I was glued.

Wow! I am so surprised at how much I loved this episode! I didnt realize how much i needed a little more Melissa Joan Hart in my life. I always love Mayims episodes with child stars, and MJH is probably the most upbeat, uplifting one I've seen.

Me and my sister loved Sabrina the teenage witch growing up, so much nostalgia with this episode.
Loved this! I got married at 21 when Sabrina was in it's first season so I feel like I grew up watching you both. I have such happy memories of watching Boy Meets World and Sabrina on a Friday night in our broke newlywed days. With this history, my husband and I also binged Melissa & Joey. Then two years ago I was googling best Christmas Movies and Holiday in Handcuffs came highly recommended so I bought the DVD sight unseen on Ebay and we loved that too. Thanks for spreading so much joy. 😘

I grew up right next to Sayville. Everyone knew Melissa Joan Heart was from there. Not many famous people from the middle of Long Island. I have seen the bags in trees and always wondered what that was! Thank you Melissa Joan heart for teaching me! lol

Patty Duke was a lead in her show when she was a kid. And she played herself as a twin! I love and miss her. She was a great actress! I would watch her show back when Nickelodeon had a bunch of old time reruns. Nick at Night I think is when it may have played. I’m not positive. We didn’t really watch the kid shows on Nickelodeon. I think as teens, we were a bit too old for them. We watched Disney after school. And we were busy with school stuff as teens in the 90’s. And the evening shows our whole family watched.
