  • Pitchers are one of master potter, Mark Hewitt's favorite shapes to throw. Here he narrates the process of how he goes from a 3.5 lb. lump of clay to a lovely, full-bodied large pitcher shape. It is mesmerizing to watch how easily and skillfully he creates this beautiful piece! The next day he will add the handle and decoration.
His work is available at his pottery studio in Pittsboro, NC, and on his online store. hewittpotterystore.com/collec...
If you're lucky there may even be a few pitchers there.
You can learn more about their open dates - twice annual Kiln Opening Sale events - at the website, hewittpottery.com/.
To make an appointment to visit the studio at another time please call 919-542-2371 and listen to the message. Enjoy!

Hey Mark, are you standing up while you do this?
I really want to continue throwing but it's hurting my back sitting down. Is there a different skillset you employ when doing it standing up? Any differences? Would you share your experience with that

What a wonderful pitcher. Watching you make this is mesmerizing. Might I ask where you got the rib and how tall do these pitchers end up. Thank you for taking time to share.
