Yep, there is a thing called "pushing carts" its popular in graffiti culture, its just putting a bunch of cans or whatever in a cart and just walking out. If u have confidence and look like u belong they will justblet u out. U can also get a long receipt and put in ur hand, also try to look kinda pissed off, then the most security guards wont talk to u.

People calling out all the catches to this ignore the possibility that we're only seeing the successful attempts and the times the first route of "attack" worked. Con-men and magicians always have backups if any chance dependent part of the trick fails. It looks less impressive if they need to do the backup, but the trick still works. For a con-man, you have strategies for bailing out with a smile, and you'll be ten blocks over by the time anyone bats an eye.
If the room was booked, she'd been like "Ok, no worries, thanks for helping, Monica... hope to see you next time we're in town!" If the maid had closed the door, she would have waited around the corner and approached her when she was leaving, saying her husband was running an errand and had the key, but Monica told her to just go upstairs. If the maid refused, she would have said "no problem at all, I can wait for my husband to come back" with a smile, and left for the next hotel.
This might have been the third hotel, and the sixth store.

This scene is just utterly brilliant, not the stealing, but the smooth, clever, easy way she does it, I've seen some clips from this film and honestly it looks great, I must rent it, don't know why people say its bad, it's great, and beautifully shot.
Taking the toiletries was hilarious though in the hotel, I felt guilty once about taking an opened soap and shampoo I'd used lol.

A lot of people in the comments are saying that "this would never happen." etc. I don't think that's really the point. You're probably right. But it's a movie so a suspension of disbelief is sort of required. But this shows that Debbie Ocean has done this before. Like a lot. She probably knows which stores don't have an alarm or won't raise that many questions about returns. She probably knows which hotels don't do a check on IDs about a room or lack of a security. Confidence is key when people do this kind of stuff but with Debbie there is confidence but this also shows that this is familiarity.

The store is covered and a nonphysical altercation means the thief, who may or may not be armed, leaves. As for the hotel, that's very likely as it is staff who direct other staff members to deal with guests. Some staff may see 100 guests in a day like Monica at reception or they may not see anyone at all like the maid.

When people say "that's not how it works in real life" they're not really angry that it doesn't match up with reality. What they mean is the filmmakers failed to create adequate suspension of disbelief. They weren't able to immerse themselves in the story because of how poorly executed it was. This is the thing that movie apologists overlook all the time and it bites them in the rear end.

Surprisingly this can work. Not that I tried it but one time i had to return a top so I wore it with the tag, went to the changing room, took it off and returned it without the recipet and got my money back when I could've very easily picked this top up from the start and pulled a Debbie Ocean 😎

Worked for a major retailer. Here's what would happen in real life.
The cashier would scan the barcode on the item(s) ... The computer would pull up the unique item code for each item.
The cashier would be able to tell the thief that none of the items had ever been purchased.
IF they HAD been purchased, the receipt would not be necessary, because the entire transaction and any customer information would be immediately available for each item.
The cashier would know WHO bought the items, if they had been bought, and could also find out if the items had been snatched out in the parking lot.
The person trying this would likely be heading down to the police station, as this scene would never succeed in real life.

Eh I am not too sure about that. Many of the barcodes are for a specific brand/type of item but not the individual item itself. It may work in most stores

To everyone saying this only works in movies. No, it can easily happen in real life as long as you "look" like you are doing nothing wrong.
Source: In high school, I bought a bunch of cheap $2-$3 bags of chips in a grocery store and got a receipt in hand with the chips in grocery store bags. While I did this my taller friend dressed as "adult" as he could and put 4 cases of beer/bottle of whiskey in his shopping cart. I then walked back into one of the isles that he was in, threw the bags into his cart and handed him the receipt. We just walked out with $100+ worth of alcohol and no one knew better.

People are too civil so of course they’re going to say “Oh this is real life. You can’t get away with it” so others don’t actually pull this scheme. Actually, you can but you have to be a master con artist and criminal to do this. You also have to be good actor so they’re convinced that you’re actually returning an item. The reason why most people claim it doesn’t work is because most of the time, dumb average people commit return fraud and they’re caught because they’re really not convincing. Personally, I wouldn’t do this because I’m no actor or con artist and I would act and look suspicious.

Plus it is not worth it, if you get caught. Her character started out the movie in prison, so that's a sign that she doesn't get away all the time. Would you really go to jail/prison and have a criminal record, just for some perfume? You can get similar stuff at the dollar store. Also is she going to go hotel to hotel every night? might as well stay with at a shelter (no different than jail).

It's actually sort of genius because either way she can pick up any item in front of any of the workers and assume she bought the things because from talking with the employee over the counter, you automatically assume they're there to buy the product unless you distinctly listen to the conversation or watch the security camera which is less likely going to happen if anyone knew it was a steal in the first place.

Ella 1223 It’s more likely than one would think. Front desk/receptionist of such crowded and upscale places are extremely congested. As long as Monica can still remember “Mrs. Randall” (who’s likely elite enough to accommodate at such places), she may notify reservation staff to reopen/hold that room and charge it to their card. A pretty white lady in the lift asking for anyone to swipe to their level because she “left in in her room” or some such? Everyone will gladly do it. And they have been informed to send the maid in so the room will definitely stay open.

maproductions she didn’t need to. She was able to get to the room while the maid was in there. Secondly, she said she was going out for a bit to eat and would be back, so that gave her some time before Monica would even expect her.

There is a actually really good way to get away with the store one. Bring your own bag and line it in tin foil. The sensors can read through it to reflects back onto the sensors and let's u through. Also make sure when you grab the items make sure theres not sensor. Some can be hidden inside the package so be careful. For legal reasons this is a joke and will not work in many situations.

    • @MarySmith-lv3mo

On Caught Red Handed, a thief did exactly that with a booster Bag lined with tin foil and was able to walk out the door after putting a dress in it and it didn't beep. Loss Prevention was watching her through the Cameras and wondered why the dress didn't beep at the Sensors. They confronted her and saw the dress and the tin foil. They told the Viewers at home that tin foil can cause sensors not to read the alarm. UA-cam Posters commented,"Caught Red Handed Loss Prevention were IDIOTS to tell us that tin foil can fool sensors. I didn't even know tin foil could fool sensors before they gave us that tip! Expect Thieves to steal more using that tin foil tip! IDIOTS!"
