For today's topic, we are telling you about the differences between #American and #European Ph.D. programs. If you are thinking of doing a #PhD., there are many options that you may not know about! We are here to help inform you. If you have any questions, please leave us a comment. We are happy to reply back!
This video covers: Structures, Lengths, Qualifications, Funding, and Application Fees.
Overview below!
USA :
1. Five Year PhD = 2 years Masters + 3 years PhD
2. Funding is usually GIVEN.
3. No Master needed to apply to PhD.
4. Application fees can be quite expensive.
European:
1. (Options 1) 3 Year PhD = 3 years PhD or (Option 2) 4 Year PhD = 1 year Master + 3 year PhD
2. Funding is mixed, depends on country and program.
3. Master is needed to apply to PhD.
4. Application fees are mostly FREE.

I am a bit confused. Do we have a PhD in Germany? I know Dr. of all kinds and myself am one. And I thought in that respect there are huge differences. As a medical student, the Dr. med. can be achieved in weeks (in Austria it even comes with your masters) , while the Dr. rer. nat in biology and other sciences needs years of working on your thesis with a half paid job an full time working. Has that changed?
Yes PhD is in Germany. ✌️It is the Doctor of Philosophy its the degree you can earn across many fields such as in social sciences, economics, etc. These PhDs need a dissertation/thesis because its research based and some Uni’s have DMA, EdD, PharmD, specific names for other study degrees as you said. 👌 Hope that clarifies 🙂
