I quit sewing sampler a few years ago. If I don’t like the pattern, I used the fabric for another project. If I didn’t like the fabric, I gave it away. I’m now about to start a different box. We’ll see. But I agree, it’s fun to receive a pkg every month.

I take the notions out right away. If I can’t make the project the month they come I put them up for sale on the Facebook Sew Sampler Swap page. They are usually easy to resell

I just like getting things I probably would not buy and if it is a duplicate os something I already have, I share it with one of my sewing friends. The projects they provide int he boxes are nice and quick. I like to do them regardless if it is something I might not buy but I do like stretching my time and making something that provide a wonderful gift. The projects rarely every take more than two days, and I can make a lap quilt much larger as well. The value is so much better than any other I have seen on youtube, and the Fat Quarter Shop always gives you the best quality in anything in the box. With all that is going on in the world today, there not much joy in my life and if I can have a few minutes of joy and excitement--priceless! Fat Quarter Shop customer is always just beyond wonderful, and I have shopped there for probably close to 20 years. I liked your video and you likely need a break and different interest for other projects.

Renee, I totally agree with you on the value and quality of the Sew Sampler Box! I miss getting it!!! I have an incredible amount of fabric and quilt supplies and am trying to slow down and only purchase what I need. Fat Quarter Shop is one of my go to shops when I do order things. They have outstanding quality and service!

I love the notions and usually start using them right away. I don't have much of a stash as I put together my own quilt kits and only purchase what I need. But I saw some put together a recent pattern which are pretty quick so I'll probably start doing those in between my larger projects for a change of pace. I love the Sew Sampler for keeping my sewing mojo fresh

I started the Sewers Club at the end of 2020. Some of the boxes I've really enjoyed and a few not so much. But for the most part, they were fun to experience. I like you found that they were pilling up, and just last month, I concluded my subscription. I found that I really enjoy picking out my own fabrics. The Sewers Club has a fantastic array of fabrics. I will miss the pretty yellow box gracing my mailbox monthly, but I think I will very much enjoy picking out fabric more. 💓💓

I think it's great you've done an honest review of the Sew Sampler. I have been a member of the Sew Sampler since it began. I made a commitment to cut down on my sewing stuff, but I retained my subscription. I've never felt the need to do all of the projects. I unbox everything, put the notions that I'll use in their place and the ones that I won't I pass on to a friend that is financially challenged. If I like a project, I'll make it. If I don't have time, I put the pattern in my 'to be done' pile and either put the fabric away or put it in a bin. For me, it's a nice surprise each month.

I really enjoyed the Sew Sampler subscription! I especially liked being the first to get new items! I think you get a good deal financially also! The Fat Quarter Shop is definitely one of my favorite online quilt shops!!

I have done a subscription box in the past & totally agree with you, fun to get, but when I’m caught up in my own projects it’s hard o get the others done. I switched to block of the months, I’ve been able to keep up and it doesn’t usually take too long to get the block done.

I’ve gotten the sew sampler box for almost 2 years. I’m new . I’ve never done any projects. I’m trying to get over my fear of cutting out pretty fabrics. I’m doing a sew a long now and this has helped me. Lol

Lucy, please don’t be afraid to use your fabrics! Use them while you think they are pretty! Don’t wait until they are outdated and become fabrics you aren’t really inspired by anymore! Learning to quilt means you will make mistakes! That is just part of the journey! Enjoy!

Hi, I'm a new subscriber thank you for sharing! I have been getting the Sew Sampler for about a year and a half, I never do the projects as they show but I love most of the contents of most of the boxes. I allow myself to keep the box around to admire and enjoy until the hints for the next box are announced then I have to get things put away. I put the notions away with my other notions and actually find I end up using most of them. I put the fabrics into my pre-cuts stash or combine them with fabric I might already have from some of the designers. I break down all of the boxes and throw them away if there is any damage if they are still nice I use them when I'm sending small gifts to people like caramels or soaps or bath bombs, you can fold the boxes back together inside out so that the old shipping label is on the inside and it is still cute on the outside. I have really liked their block of the month patterns I started early in the Goodness Grows one and I store those like I do other BOM patterns. For project patterns I decide if I would make it or not, often I would use different fabrics or make them larger, I file then if they are good prospects or put them in a give away box if not. I don't consider them homework, I think it's a good value for the supplies and a fun bit of inspiration.

I do the same, separate everything out, fabric goes into zip lock bags with the date if the box on it. Patterns go into my 5 x7 pattern notebook, notions duplicates go into a box for my daughter or granddaughter to go thru. Nothing goes to waste. Fabric may not get used for the included pattern.

Hi! This is the first time I seen your video. I use to be a member also. I always took the notions out then put the rest back in the box to do sometime later. My boxes also piled up so I canceled. I am now subscribing to “sew what” box. They do little projects. I make sure I do them within a few days of getting it. They are quick projects to sew. The reason I like it is because I am not a sewer other than my quilting and I want to learn some new skills.

I’m decluttering 5 years worth of boxes. I can’t believe the number of items I’ve purchased over the years that I already had gotten in a SS box! You are so right- if you don’t make the project right away, you’re just going to end up with mounds of boxes taking up space.

    • @thesimplequilter7499

I did the same thing! I have several duplicates of quilting tools now! You can use those extras to put together a travel quilting bag like I did. When I go to a quilting event outside my house whether it is a retreat or just a sew day, I take just grab that bag because it is always ready!

I have been getting the sampler boxes for about 2 years, that is when I started quilting. I have only done 2 of the projects so far. I take everything out of my boxes and put them in there proper locations then I recycle the boxes by putting scraps into them. Using them for scapes didn’t last long because I’m terrible about sorting them into the boxes. Like you I enjoy getting them but my stash and patterns collection is getting a bit crazy. I have also been thinking about stopping it.

Agree it’s a great subscription if your a new quilter… I just discontinued my subscription with the November 2021 box which was back ordered and just recently mailed out in February 2022.
I do belong to the sew sampler swap Facebook page…. If something comes up in a box I just watch and try to buy it there. I also sold 5 whole boxes from 2021 for exactly what I paid for them with hardly any loss…

I turly don't understand why you don't empty the boxes and recycle them... I pass along the items I don't want to quilty friends and add what I keep to my stash. I subscribed for awhile but decided to cancel because I couldn't use enough of the items to make it worth the cost.

    A very nice review.
I've looked at box subscriptions, but I have always passed. I'm not looking for "cutsie" projects or to collect notions that I would likely not use. I'd rather browse for deep discounted fabric (and frankly, I've found none that match the values that Hancock's of Paducah offer) or buy a specialty ruler to making quilting life smoother.

I honestly think all these box memberships are a waste of money and business are inundating the market. I for one was not happy with boxes from Fat Quarter shop and others. I found that many products they included were obsolete/becoming obsolete or not selling well. My subscriptions were short. Doesn’t make sense to pay for projects you’ll never make. Just too wasteful.

I love Sew Sampler. I like that they dont have "sweets" in them. Not practical to ship to Arizona.
The 2 boxes that i didnt like the fabric I put aside for my granddaughter to learn to sew with.

I am short 3 patterns, I joined 3 months after they had started. Would you be interested in sending me the patterns I'm missing? I love doing the projects, I am 69 and disabled. I’ve been tempted to join a fat quarter club, but not the sew sampler, just because I’m only really interested in fabric and patterns. I’m particular about my tools and know that they would likely go unused (therefore becoming clutter) in my space.
