    Does having an always on tuner cause tone suck, and what is the best way to go about using an always on tuner? Tuner out of vp? Buffer pedal with Tuner Out? Or just running tuner first in chain and clicking it on and off to just tune?

    • @jamesransom7711
      @jamesransom7711  2 роки тому +1

      Hey man! It’ll cause the most tone suck when running it out of a passive VP like the Ernie ball. Mine is running out of the tuner out from my interfacer so it’s not even in the signal chain. Best way to do it without that is to get one with a “bypass” option, that way it can stay on and it’s not a
      affecting the tone.

    Hey James! I recently bought myself an Iridium- God-send of a pedal- but I do need some help.
    I want to have the Iridum be used to replace the amps that we run. To essentially go DI to FOH.
    Now, I’ve been hearing that placing the wet effects before the Iridium will make it muddy and ugly.
    I’m not sure what to do as I have no access to an Effects Loop. I’d love some help :)

    • @jamesransom7711
      @jamesransom7711  4 роки тому +1

      Rhowin Dacut hey man! I personally run my Iridium after my entire board, so all the effects are hitting the front. That’s going to feel and sound the most like a real amp with everything in front. The muddiness is likely coming from the stock IR’s (which aren’t great) and how the effects are dialed in. No need for an effects loop though!

      I’ve run wet fx post and pre. The biggest change you’ll have to make is simply a lower mix level. Also make sure you’re using a TRS Y stereo cable and set the Iridium input switch to stereo. It’s definitely a warmer and dirtier sound that takes getting used to.

    great sounds! it sounds so similar to the tones that david hislop gets. may i ask you what IR file specifically were you using for this demo? i have the DH greenback pack but i found it a little too muffled.. maybe i'm doing something wrong (i have an HX stomp for amps). it sounded more open with a crisp pick attack in your case.

      Hey man! You’re hearing the G12 545 (3) on the right, and the G10 545 (3) on the left. A lot of my sound has to do with compression too. I’m also using a scratchy pick so that affects it as well.

      Hislop’s IR’s can be a bit dark and midrangey. They’re EQ and processed to sit in a mix much like the guys at Bethel do, with their low output and bright humbuckers. If you’re having trouble cutting through, switch to the mic position 2 or even 1 and that should help tremendously.

  • @jesseriley7760
    @jesseriley7760 4 роки тому

    Question. I have an Iridium and I cannot make it work the way that I think it should. If I plug directly into the iridium only it plays as it should. If I try putting pedals in front of it (example, guitar>tuner>distortion>overdrive>reverb>iridium>headphones>speaker) I don’t get anything out of it. If I try just one effect before, nothing. If I try placing the effect after the Iridium (which wouldn’t make sense to me anyway) I still get nothing. Any thoughts? I even sent the pedal back to Strymon who “fixed” it but it still does the exact thing. Can you give me a super basic breakdown of which cables you’re putting in where? It’s got to be something simple that I’m missing.🤬

    • @jamesransom7711
      @jamesransom7711  4 роки тому

      Couple things to try and troubleshoot - are you running mono or stereo? How are you monitoring? If you are using speakers/monitors and not headphones, I'd recommend using the main L/R outs.

    • @jamesransom7711
      @jamesransom7711  4 роки тому

      You can only use one of the amp sims at a time. You can have independent L/R IR's though, so that helps. I usually run a Fender style speaker and a Greenback to sort of simulate the Fender/Vox thing. Obviously doesn't quite get that whole effect, but still sounds really cool.

      I mean if you boil it down into the category of “clean-ish tone, delay and reverb”, then sure these types of sounds are gonna be broadly similar. There’s so much nuance to each individual player and tone though, because everyone hears it slightly differently. People can also just enjoy what they want to!
