I get so excited watching your vlogs Kim! Your energy and love for teaching shines through in all that you do. I love that affirmation mirror. I would hang it up so the kids have to look up at it, as oppose to looking down. Sometimes it's the little things that can make a difference. Sending love your way!!
Love your sweet spirit and how you're not a complainer - you certainly have plenty of things you COULD be complaining about after being pulled out of your school and grade level, etc! As for the lights, I would shift them all by re-draping them starting at the end by your library, and then when you get to the part where the two cords meet, I'd zip tie (or even just tape) them together so the bare spots are gone. And actually I don't mind the part that doesn't work. It would almost seem to me like you planned it that way since the bulletin board ends there! Regardless of what you do, I know your students are so lucky to have you as a teacher and we are so lucky to be able to share in your journey. All God's blessings to you this school year! 💕

The board by your desk should be a growth mindset board with inspiration quotes for the students. Or just a get to know the teacher board with pictures about things you love and your name

For the section on the light strip that just has cord could you bring the lights closer to that hook and maybe tuck the excess cord in the ceiling?
As for the lights that aren't working sometimes the bulb where they stopped working just needs to be replaced.
That's what i was thinking. Zip tie the lightless part to make it look like the lights continue.

Literally me but like I’m now 16 but I’ve known pretty much I’ve wanted to be a teacher for like more than 10 years but it became specifically what we in the uk call “primary school” teaching ✨

You can use magnetic tape and the fabric to cover that outlet on your wow work board. That way you can access the outlet if you need it but it isn’t obvious for students.
its looking great! for your lights, you can bunch up the extra cord part where they connect and add another magnetic hook to hold it close to each other. then bring up the other lights if you can get them working.

I am the SAME exact way when it comes to a new year. I feel like I forget how to be a teacher and write out a script for my first day hahaha. You are literally a power house! Your room has come together SO quickly! It looks beautiful!!! Best of luck this year 💕
You need new lights. For the black space just clump the cord together so it is shorter. Our back porch is 52’ by 12’ and we have Christmas light up year round and that is what we do. I keep extra packages of lights around to replace a set when it goes out, about every three years. Pick them up around Christmas on sale.
Your room looks amazing! As far as the lights, I’d probably just buy a new strand.
I do fabric all the time if you pull it, you don't have to iron it will look smooth and great

I love watching your classroom setup videos. I get such inspiration. I am a new 5th grade teacher as well (although I have been teaching for 20+yrs). Have you thought abought putting your mirror on the door to your back room? I think that might be a great spot for it.

Maybe you can like zip tie the lights together for the blank space at the top? Not sure if I explained that well enough haha
When I was in the US last year (Illinois) I found lots of Target dollar spot teacher/back to school stuff in Goodwills in September. It wasn’t just a few bits and pieces so I think there must be an agreement for unsold stock to go to Goodwill. Maybe have a peek in there if you have some nearby! Xxx
You do have a lot of bulletin boards. However, in several of my classrooms, I had almost floor to ceiling bulletin boards that spanned about 20 ft, and then the adjoining wall had bulletin boards that were half the wall and about 12 to 15 feet. Luckily, I had my daughter helping me the years I had to deal with those, so I understand the trouble of doing that wall all by yourself.
🤣 Oh you should see my bulletin board. Its almost an entire wall of my classroom. 15 feet long, I believe I measured it at. I had to buy two rolls of paper to cover it and the regular-sized board at the front of my room.
Just an idea. For the influential people posters, you could hang your heart mirror if you have a “blank” space in the wall so the kiddos can see that they can be an influence on themselves and others through their actions and choices

Your classroom looks amazing already. I love the "wood" wall and the library bookshelves. I bought white bookshelves at IKEA last year and now that I see yours, I wish I would've bought black. What kind of fabric do you use on your bulletin boards? I love the idea of using it instead of paper.

Hi, Wendy! Thank you! I do really like having black! I just bought cheap cotton fabric from Hobby Lobby/JoAnn Fabric! Anytime I want to learn how to do something on my Cricut, I search on UA-cam and there are a ton of awesome videos out there!! 😊
Try menards or if you have an ace hardware they are very helpful with stuff like that

Hey Kim! Do you have an idea in your head yet about the desk arrangement? 19 students seems like a lot in that space with the need to keep distance between them...Are there criteria that you are following at this point? I hope it all works out for you :)
your room is fab and you are so sweet. I think if you bunched up the unlit bit and move it along to the right a bit so the spare on the left (hanging down where you decided not to go all the way to corner.)...move that to the first hook and you should have enough lit then.... hope that makes sense?? x
It would be great if students could see their wow work in the space that they'll be learning in.

Maybe you can try to roll the part that doesn’t have any lights and tight them on top and then just scroll the ones that are hanging to the left lol. Not sure if I’m explaining myself 😂
For your goals board, have you considered typing them up and putting them on rings to flip so that you don't have to rewrite them each time? Or printing and having them printed in those plastic pockets and pull the most appropriate one out to the front to be displayed?
I spent a tonnnn of time doing that last year for 4th grade and then was moved to 5th this year. It was super handy, but this year I just can't picture myself committing so much time to that! It was super nice, though!
What are some of your favourite (and most read) chapter books for grade 4? I’m hoping to teach in the grade 3-5 range so I want to keep my eye out for ones kids like. Thanks!!

Due to Covid 19, we can't have anything made out of fabric. It has to be able to be wiped down so no paper decor. Bummer..
We need to laminate everything. We are virtual until November. Teachers are in the classroom..
