Cute boat for a young couple. Beats apt costs in Vancouver. My cousin has been an Air Canada pilot for over 30 years out of Vancouver and he still only managed a small bungalow for his 5 sons. Glad to see you doing the path less traveled.
Yes, and the price is right. I keep looking for a swing keel Catalina 25, and it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack! We need the shoal draft, as we live on the Hudson River about 130 miles north of NYC. We would also love to cruise the Bahamas and T&C, and that one boat would do it all for us.

thank you for the nice tour, you both are doing great. Enjoy, I have family up across the line in both Toronto and Ottawa. Fair winds,.... Skipper Andy
Thank you for the tour of your "tiny home." I think living aboard a boat is the best tiny home solution as many communities, as least in the United States, have restrictions how and where one can live in a tiny home on a trailer. My issue lately is finding a marina (Florida) where I can affordably live year-round on a small sailboat (about 25 foot) since the cost has risen about 250% since last year. It seems most are in price-gouge mode. Best of luck to you.
There is a plastic mat of sorts that is made specifically for boats to go under your mattress to help deal with moisture. I believe it is made in BC. The Foam Zone - it’s called Hypervent. I have seen it used by van dwellers, as they also have moisture issues. It could be a good investment for you guys. K
I think we actually have some of that! While it works great in the summer, it wasn't holding up for the winter haha, but I will definitely look more into it to see if they make different thicknesses etc! Thanks :D
For the v-berth look up Froli systems, they make a click together grid of plastic springs. Keeps the mattress elevated for moisture control, and also makes the bed more comfortable.
To aid with condensation under the bed may want buy or make a bed spring like those in European and Asian RVs. You can see them on you tube videos tours of RVs. They create about 1 to 2 inch space that provides cushion and ventilation under the mattress.
You probably know about them already but Froli makes a popular mattress ventilation system. We use it in our RV and no mold/issues under the mattress with alot of cold winter camping. There are several other brands and DIY solutions. Just found you guys, looking forward to seeing some other videos.
Looks like a nice place, I might end up there some day. I'm hoping to sail around a bunch first though. That's if I ever get enough money together for a boat...
You might consider drilling ventilation holes in the cabinet faces of the V-birth. Also, my cousin has a lot of luck with a wind generator in Massachusetts to supplement the shallow sun in the winter. I’ve seen them used on eBay at a relatively decent price, and I suspect with just two of you on board it would fill the gap. It looks like a lovey boat, and I bet you save a bundle on rent! We were in Toronto over the summer, and we were shocked at how expensive housing was near the lake. It was much like New York and Seattle.
I don't miss the condensation and lack of insulation tho hehe! I don't know if you guys have found a solution for your mattress yet.. but I found that those outdoor fake wood tiles that you can find at garden center, work like a charm under the mattress. They elevate the mattress a little and leave air flow underneath! Way better and cheaper than the stuff you can buy in marine stores to put under cushions.. that stuff compress under the weight of your body and doesn't do the job well. Happy to share my liveaboard tips with you guys!
Very nice, the only thing I didn't like, was filling up the drinking water, from a hose. The marina could just get a business, to set up a filtration machine. In Miami, they have them all over, like coke machines.
mine has the same quarter berth leak. its from the helm pedestal and lack of backing plates so it gets leaned on and twisted and tends to leak. i am figuring out some sort of reinforcement to mitigate this. Also nice, bookshelf in the v berth!
For your condensation problem. I have seen in the Army interlocking plastic tiles about 18 inches square that look somewhat similar to the teak drainage tile in your head. If you can find something similar you could place them under your mattress?
Nice little boat ! I have wondered why you guys live at the dock. I think now I figured it out, your boat may not have enough creature comforts. And enough food storage. 30 ft takes a lot of planning for long times away from shore. Plus you don’t have a cook range. Your boat wasn’t set up to be a live aboard boat ! But it is still enjoyable and pretty nice. And I am sure living in another place and using the boat for fun is probably not an option right now. So maybe in the future you can make a change. If you want to live on a boat maybe you can get a bigger boat later on. And right now your channel may not bring in enough revenue to do different. So good luck !
As a fellow sailboater and guitar player, you might want to look into 'parlor' sized guitars. They have smaller bodies which helps on a sailboat, and the string length (called 'scale') is shorter. Your classical isn't too bad, but that dreadnaught is a big bodied guitar. The Gretsch G9500 and Fender CP-60S are quite inexpensive and are small bodied parlors. If you want to spend a little more, the Taylor BT1 Baby Taylor is a big jump in build quality...well worth it if you can afford it.
Thanks so much for the comment!! That is a great idea to look for a smaller guitar....we both have our "beater" guitars here on board but they do take up quite a bit of our limited space... :D
I'm moving to Victoria in the fall and was looking into liveaboard sailboats kind of as a far-out dream, but its so cool to see you guys pulling it off! From what i've gathered from around the web, there's a limited number of marinas in Vic that allow liveaboards and the spots are very hard to get. Did you buy the boat with the slip? Or did you have a referral into the marina? :) Thanks so much, this tour was so inspiring!
That is very exciting! We applied for this slip, although we were very lucky to get in (there is often a long wait list). I suppose the timing just worked out :D Good luck in your search for a liveaboard!!
Thank you! That is very exciting, feel free to reach out to us if you have questions. And let us know when you move aboard, we are always interested in other people's experiences!! Good luck :)
Me again! Plz get the skull killer exposed bolts delt with. Or stud covers. Going down below and a wave makes you head butt them, its a&e if your lucky.
Hi! Thank you for sharing! I’m interested in a live aboard. I’d like to stay at a marina because I need WiFi due to work. Do you have any advice for a new skipper? Thank you! Love your vlogs!
Owning a sailboat has many advantages besides saving money on college expenses...I hope after graduation you avail yourself of some of them...like sailing !
7:00 Wow! Front hatch= I bet those bolts sticking down, feels good on the head? Looks like there could have been a better design in that. Quick suggestion maybe: There is a golf ball, that is manufactured. It is a solid material construction. Drill small hole in it, maybe thread it to screw over the bolts. Condensation is a bitch to deal with. It happens with cold out side temp. and warm inside. It happens with campers also. Due to the lack of, or no insulation. Campers it's normally around the windows. You can move the air around by fans. It's very unlikely it will help. Maybe make your bed area warmer. Creating more condensation. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the ideas Dave, we will look into those! This sort of comment is great to read because it helps us learn! Thanks for watching and for your support. And yes, I (Jonas) smash my head off those little buggers all the time :D
@@BlueMoonLife Thanks for the response! LOL! My head has caught many things over the years. Things very similar to this. I think things get lower as one uses it. Golf balls will not stop from hitting it. But at least it shouldn't hurt as bad. Hehe!
Great video. I have a modern 34' boat and you seem to have way more storage space. I am curious about what happens when you sail - do you have to "Sailify" the cabin? Looks like there would be a ton of stuff on the sole once the boat heels. Are you planning on cruising into the North West Islands?
Thanks a lot! Yes we definitely will have to stow everything away once we get back out on the water. We're hunkered down for the winter right now and will probably remove some shore-bound items before cruising again this summer. We hope to go north one day, perhaps up to Princess Louisa and on towards Bella Bella. And we would really like to circumnavigate Vancouver Island at some point as well...but lots to learn and practice first.
Enjoying your videos, hello from Kelowna. I am curious how it works with the moorage etc, how much does it cost? Would be cool to see a video about that.
Nice. My 25 footer is a little cramped but living aboard it hasn't extended beyond a week so far. I'm thinking you can never have enough boat until it's time to pay for it.
Hi Tambi! It is about $750/month if you consider all the normal associated costs. There are several docks around the area that allow liveaboards...and if you call the harbour authorities or check their websites they have lots of good info!
I use 1 1/2 inch SM blue foam under my mattress in my RV all winter. Just went through a week of - 30 at night No problem Wood Slats underneath may add ventilation For you Cheap and easy
We rent by the month here but it is very reasonable pricing! We'll be making a video soon going over all of the costs related to living aboard, but I believe the liveaboard fee is around $90 additional to moorage!
@@BlueMoonLife In California, USA, people are put on a waiting list or participate lottery to live aboard. When your liveaboard is granted, each person is charged an extra approx. $250 or so monthly so they can live full-time.

Looking forward to more of you two! We're looking at a Catalina 30 for a live aboard as well.
Thank you! That is very exciting, feel free to reach out to us if you have questions. And let us know when you move aboard, we are always interested in other people's experiences!! Good luck :)
Reminds me of the channel Kelsey Leigh, the nyc bike messenger. Same voice and demeanour.
Thanks for the comment, we will look up that channel!
Me again! Plz get the skull killer exposed bolts delt with. Or stud covers. Going down below and a wave makes you head butt them, its a&e if your lucky.
Yes, thank you for reminding us, I'll pick up for ends next time I'm at the store! :D
Cool
Hehe!
We live in Victoria too.
At the dock I would leave an electric blanket on all day and off at bed time
Great video.
Do you guys know "Sailing Uma" you should have a look at their genius boat layout. I especially like their staircase
Thanks for the idea we will check them out!!
Very nice boat! Are you still in Victoria??!!
Gonna look for your boat in the inner harbour on my walks now :)
Just for safety reasons..I'd have v berth hatch accessable for emergency
Enjoying your videos, hello from Kelowna. I am curious how it works with the moorage etc, how much does it cost? Would be cool to see a video about that.
Hey Jamie! We actually recently made a video about the costs of moorage: ua-cam.com/video/VpckKUWIxnM/v-deo.html
@@BlueMoonLife awesome, thanks for letting me know. I will check it out!
Why do you have a foam mattress instead of a spring mattress?
Nice. My 25 footer is a little cramped but living aboard it hasn't extended beyond a week so far. I'm thinking you can never have enough boat until it's time to pay for it.
Thanks for the comment Burt! We think you are right....easy to dream about more space until you look at the prices :D
@@BlueMoonLife You guys are out of Vancouver, right. I got my mainsail from Vancouver Island, Precision Sail. Have you heard of them?
Hanging your guitar will keep the necks from warping
⛵️ What is the cost for a 30ft live aboard boat in Victoria Harbor? Are there other Docks that rent out live aboard slips? Thank You
Hi Tambi! It is about $750/month if you consider all the normal associated costs. There are several docks around the area that allow liveaboards...and if you call the harbour authorities or check their websites they have lots of good info!
Im buying a 28 foot catalina and I need to see the shower working. Show me the pressure and how the boat heats the shower water...
How are y’all cooking without shore power?
We cook outdoor with a propane camp stove when we are off shore power!
What year was she built...
How beautiful you are!
which marina in victoria allow live aboard?
I use 1 1/2 inch SM blue foam under my mattress in my RV all winter. Just went through a week of - 30 at night
No problem
Wood Slats underneath may add ventilation
For you
Cheap and easy
Wow that is cold!!
What is your livaboard /slip fees?
But where’s Jonas. What did you do with him? Cool tour.
Haha thank you! I think we lost him overboard ;)
hes in the whale?
And the best thing is, you can stroll up the wharf to take tea at the Empress, right?
Given a larger budget perhaps...but theoretically yes :D
0:33 Nice aft. And the back of the boat looks okay too.
Y'all might be helping to change my life.
Any guitar music of yours?
We're working on some!
❤
You are so cute❤️
I love your boat, & your very pretty too. I'd like to sail with you.
Thanks so much Donald!
Did you buy your slip or rent? Living aboard fee?
We rent by the month here but it is very reasonable pricing! We'll be making a video soon going over all of the costs related to living aboard, but I believe the liveaboard fee is around $90 additional to moorage!
@@BlueMoonLife In California, USA, people are put on a waiting list or participate lottery to live aboard. When your liveaboard is granted, each person is charged an extra approx. $250 or so monthly so they can live full-time.
Priced out of anything on land?
Something like that :D especially on Vancouver Island...
