I really wish there were more guys like this in the world of music. A true genuine and intelligent gentleman, and an absolute tasteful shredder on an array of Keyboards. Salute!
@@hpatss4966 Geoff Downs. Former Buggles; former Yes; former (still?) Asia. Not an impressive keyboard player. Way too much sequencing, tricky parts played into memory and played back by depressing a single key, typical 80’s keyboardist - let the machinery do all the work.
@@cedarwaxwing3509 Downes is a skillful keyboardist, at least from watching him play in the 80s (Drama tour) yes recordings. I'm pretty sure that, if what you're saying about him letting the machines do all the work is true, it must be a stylistic choice, as in using a sequencer to get a repeating keyboard sound or an arpeggio.
Absolutely brilliant. Blown away by how you have learnt the Rick Wakeman parts note perfect. Love the vintage keyboards. Thankyou so much for showing us your equipment, its totally appreciated
I can't believe this video has been on UA-cam for 10 years and I've never seen it!! This is awesome. So now I have to watch some videos of your band. Thanks for posting.
Heart of the sunrise...South side of the sky....Yours is no disgrace....Roundabout. ...Long distance Runaround....Roundabout....Over the Rainbow....And you and I....Awesome Demonstration.
Yes! it's one of their most ethereal passages and i'm pretty sure that melody with the key changes were written by Rick. it is a real joy to play that for people : )
Matt, this had to be my favorite keyboard video of all time. The passages you used to demonstrate your keyboards were amazing. Over The Rainbow?! Sounded gorgeous! I'd love to hear you solo out some keyboard passages from Relayer, especially To Be Over. Great vid man!
Thousands of people are better than Geoff Downes... the fact that he’s still in the band is genuinely astonishing. Not to take away from this guys skill of course! I am seriously impressed.
Thanks for giving this tour. I am a big Yes fan, and enjoyed seeing how the sounds were made. Also thanks very much for doing what you do, It makes me very happy to see you recreating such iconic music, with your wonderful keyboard collection. Yes is one of the bands that inspired me to be a musician, and I still get a thrill every time I hear their music played. Keep up the good work ☮️🎶🎹🎶☮️
Another UK Yes fan. I know these sounds really well and yours are absolutely spot-on along with the playing. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this.
Thanks, Matt. Those riffs you played - took me right back to the 70s, to my vinyl collecting (sadly long gone) and to remembering just how freaking *brilliant* YES were. Cheers!
Wow man- just great. Your two handed work really brings those Wakeman parts to life. Thanks for the amazing demo. That’s a dream set up. Keep it up. Good vibes
Matt, thanks for the tour! It gave me a flashback... I use to play all that gear and more... after 40 I started playing solo piano gigs... now, my back hurts just looking at your cool rig ! LOL I find the H/S KX-1 does the trick when I need a Hammond... but I do use a real 145 Leslie. For solo piano gigs where I have to bring the piano, I'm using the Williams Legato (in stereo < that's very important with those cheap pianos) Kurzweil PC1x stays in the studio. The piano case has wheels w/a handle and brakes in two for the stand. At 63 who can haul all that gear around except young turks like you !
Have seen YES, Genesis, and King Crimson countless times starting at 15 in 1974 I appreciate your effort to use the original instruments to reproduce some of the most amazing and groundbreaking music of the era. The challenge with the moog is THERE ARE NO PRESETS. Well 👍🏻 done
Awesome! Really enjoyed the tour! Loved the Moog & Mellotron of "And you & I" soooooo pretty!!!! Looking forward to future YES videos & studio hardware updates / keyboards!!
That part of "And You And I" with the Minimoog/Mellotron part is my favorite moment of any record ever. Still gives me chills! Thank you for playing it! So is the ASR10 what's being driven by the "Mellotron" controller? Those were some nice 3 Violins!
This was a nice demonstration, learnt on which instruments some very recognicable parts of YES music was played on, and the MiniMoog and Mellotron are the most iconic instruments of early electronic music, but like the Hammond with distortion too.
Vintage sounds never get old, ours ears may start to fail, like hearing the ringing of a bell, the distant sound of a train, tinnitus can bring pain but the vintage sound of a musical keyboard will remain the same. Younger ears will come and older ears will go, but the music in our minds will continue to flow. Peace through music
Wow! Fantastic! And may I say thank you for all you and your band do to keep YES music alive, relevant and known. How depressing is the lousy pop music out today? It has no heart or soul. And today's generation has no idea who the band YES is. And wouldnt know how to sit through or appreciate a song thats longer than 2 minutes!
Hello Matt..I'd just like to say that yourself and the Yes tribute band Going for the one are an excellent Yes cover band...And enjoyed your display of keyboards and Amazing demonstration of them. In my opinion you have just as much talent as Rick Wakeman, Tony Kaye, Patrick Moraz, Geoffrey Downes, etc. Good Luck to you in your musical endeavors.
You sound great...covering all the parts Matt. I used to own 2 Minis and a Mellotron, but sold them back in 1979. Still have B3 and Leslie though. Most of my gigs I use plug-ins with a couple of controllers and also a digital piano. Saw Yes at least a dozen time before 1980....some with Wakeman, some with Moraz, some with Bruford. Hammond tech who used to do a lot of mods for Emerson, Wakeman, Lord, to name a few. He was great...had my B done by him. Passed away in the late 80's.
Thanks for sharing. Seen you guys at The Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh. You were amazing and the acoustics in that place, I think it was the best venue I have ever been to. Hope to see you there again.
Nice work Matt! You have the keys, you have the chops, living the dream! I had a Mellotron 400M in the 80's and it was a magnificent pain in the rear - always something to fix...yours looks like a fresh version and the sounds work, you have the whole package. I will check your others tubes -- wondering how much of that goes on stage with you. Quite a setup.
Dang, that sounded good. You nailed the "Eclipse" section of "And You and I" perfectly. Also the piano intro to the second movement of "South Side of the Sky." (Every version I've heard by other stylists starts in the wrong octave) You know your Wakeman well, Matthew.
Greetings from Brazil. Congratulations for the video and for the certainly hard work of sorting all this complex set out and maintaining it. Any videos of your perfomances we could see?
I don't know how you feel about Drama, but I like it a lot. The new stuff, not as well. But you have to admit Geoff Downes has been associated with Yes for close to 40 years and making him the new keyboardist is a pretty logical choice.
There are LOTS of excellent UA-cam players, many of them way better than very famous ones with decades of touring and many recorded albums, the reason these UA-cam players are not that successful? The famous ones have entered into music industry in the 60s-70s, tons of money, contacts and heavyweight management companies. P.S. BTW Matt your performance here was mind blowing!
Shirley you don't mean Rick Wakeman! There are TWO bands under the name of YES in fact. The only one worth a damn is Yes, Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman (ARW).
loving the sound of your mellotron emulator and real deal minimoog together. My buddy Tyler plays drums in a band called "Dust Witch" which has two keyboardists, but he's also a great keyboardist himself and swears by those EMU vintage keys modules. I think he owns 4 of them (so he has backups).
Thanks Matt for sharing this & your amazing talent. Hope you are having a great summer. We hope you will enjoy the music of Robert Levy & Midnight Swim. Keep in touch.
The Minimoog design is timeless, it aged so well, and growing on me every day. It's as timeless of a design and sound as Les Paul or Stratocaster. The Voyager is not again well...
Wonderful Rig Matt. I played keyboards in a YES cover band (NYC) back in the 80's. We were called, "US". I used 7 boards and a Roland Ax (Key-tar). Those were great times, but I now have bad arthritis in my hands, so it's very hard to play Wakemans parts for more then only 1/2 an hour. Can't do much like that my friend, LOL. I wish you and your band the best! BTW, dig that Hammond :)
What a fantastic rig. It covers nearly all the sounds I love, though I'd add in some stuff like the PPG and CS80 to have Eddie Jobson and Geddy Lee's synths timbres too :-)
That 'And You And I' part was always the sweetest. It's nice to see how it's done, the interplay between the Mellotron and the MiniMoog.
I really wish there were more guys like this in the world of music. A true genuine and intelligent gentleman, and an absolute tasteful shredder on an array of Keyboards.
Salute!
errraAAerrr. :-)
Lisa Bella Donna thank you : )
Guou! you are beatiful, Lisa!
Don't you just love the sound of mellotron in the morning?
there are many sweetheart just not attracted to you hun😘
Longtime Yes fan here. South Side of the Sky is the most underappreciated Yes piece, period.
Nah, The Remembering
man, seriously, I have been listening to yes since 1971, and you are by far a better keyboardist than who they have presently.
Toby Pittman - Absolutely - No contest at all.
Who is the YES keyboardist currently Toby out of interest ?
@@devondetroit2529 he doesn’t know

Moog and Mellotron... voices of God...
Nice rig. That first distorted Organ you played with reminds me of “No opportunity necessary, no experience needed.”
Absolutely brilliant. Blown away by how you have learnt the Rick Wakeman parts note perfect. Love the vintage keyboards. Thankyou so much for showing us your equipment, its totally appreciated

Every keyboard part featured here is like a short piece of art by itself.
What a genius Rick can be.
And awesomely played!

Wow you are great bud! btw that Mellotron is in wonderful shape.
Absolutely amazing. Such iconic instruments.
Great set-up Matt! Thanks for sharing and also for help keeping YES music alive.
Yes! it's one of their most ethereal passages and i'm pretty sure that melody with the key changes were written by Rick. it is a real joy to play that for people : )
Great video. I LOVE the 1948 Hammond growl just beautiful!
one extremely talented guy, and my favourite Yes cover band, you are superb.
Billy McMonagle thank you!
That is a dream team you have there great video
The current lineup of “Yes” desperately need you.
Brilliant sounds and excellent playing - both spot on! Took me straight back to the 70s and hearing these albums back then. :)
This has to be one of the best keyboard related videos on UA-cam.

That's exactly how I feel too
Man that Hammond started out deep purple sounding- love that!
when it comes to the mellotron, theres really nothing like the actual tape based unit, but that still has a beautiful sound brother.
Great playing, man. Yes is awesome and your renditions are spot on in every way.
Thank you
This video is not only amazing, but it makes me cry inside, such talent!
The voicings for "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was beautiful!
pretty cool.. interesting about the Yes parts.. thanks
Another UK Yes fan. I know these sounds really well and yours are absolutely spot-on along with the playing. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this.

It takes real dedication to haul all of that gear around.
No doubt… He’s gotta have 15k (at least) in gear, here. I hope they pay him well!

+Matt Riddle Wow! That module sounds better than I remember!
I had to fine tune the patch quite a bit. You're also hearing echo and reverb from my midiverb.
+Matt Riddle that explains it :) Nice work Matt! Great sounds everywhere...That's one of the meanest Hammonds I've heard in a while!

Wow! An original Minimoog model D. They cost a fortune nowadays, if you can even find one.
I so envy you dude. All the great keyboards, chops and playing in a Yes tribute band!! I could live like that, playing this beautiful music
You played "Eclipse" from "And You and I" letter-perfect. Jolly well done.
The And You And I part was fantastic. My favourite part of that song.
that mellotron with the Model D sounded so unrealll. I got the mini now i need a mello! sublime playing
the And you and i section sounded fantastic!

@richardhigonsby what you're hearing is a vintage keys rack unit. sounds great and very convenient. i also use the mike pinder samples.
That And You And I bit is f**kin awesome!
Thanks for the tour, Matt!👏👏👏
Great gear! Keep on rocking man!
Wakeman would be proud:) Saw him in Indianapolis years ago, and you are the same caliber for sure..Great work.:)
