Years later and I'm still coming back to listen to you. The best part about your videos were the explanations of all the fundamentals that came to make the sound. No ones doing it like you did man. This shit is timeless.
I make bass noises like this, and someone mentioned to me that harmor was good, so i searched for a video that would be relevant to my style and I found this - it's perfect! Good stuff Seamless
well, you can directly automate the unison pitch with an automation clip. As well, you can right click it and select "edit articulator" and make modulation changes using the internal options.
I'm glad you've released a NON resampled/vocodex version - I don't like the 'watery' effect that those produce. This is exactly what I was looking for - thank you man!
Glad to help! And good luck. Frequency Splitting can get a little tedious, especially starting out but is very useful. If you use Fruity Loops, look into splitting with Fruity Convolver's Linear Phase EQ preset. I believe Seemless mentions this in one of his videos!
dat drums are so fucking amazing. you are my biggest inspiration ever seamless. thank you for everything you do. i hope ill meet you one day in person:)
Very cool video man, very cool! I have always stood by my oppinion that resampling is way over-rated by alot of EDM-producers out there, alot of the stuff most people say is "resampled" is entirely possible straight out of a modern VST instrument, like the reese here :D I also did a tutorial on something similar on my channel, only I did it with 3xosc. Just a little more basic :p
Great video my friend. Best one yet, info wise, for me. I've always felt the same as you about stacking, with regards to the control etc, so I've generally avoided it as much as possible. This find, however, has completely opened a new door for me. Thanks heaps for sharing, you're a legend! All the best for 2013 mate! Catcha around ;)
Seamless, I've been watching your videos for a while and they have been incredibly helpful. One thing that i am very confused about is Sub bass. In your songs, do you layer a sub after resampling a bass? or do you layer the Sub bass with the bass before resampling?
What you said at 4:44 about using a sound messing around with it and wanting it the way it was just happened with me and the Neuro resampling version. I have been trying to get it back to the way it was for like 3 hours. Most frustrating thing ever.
You can split a signal into as many bands as you want by routing said signal to multiple mixer inserts (tracks) by however many bands you desire. 5 Bands = send to 5 mixer tracks. Then load your frequency splitter into each and solo the middle band (on each). Set the lower and upper ends of each band respectively starting with the 1st band (low freqs), and ending with the 5th band (high freqs). If you have any more questions do not hesitate to send me a private message.
Massive is not a bad tool, it is actually a very useful tool. I learned Massive before I was introduced to Seamless, it was the way I went. It is a way for beginners. Which is better, Sytrus or Massive? It is still a personal preference. As long as it sounds good, who cares how they got it?
Hey! Wonderful tutorial :) After watching a few more videos, though, I'm still really confused as to how Harmor's unison detune mapping works. There are only 2 voices in this synth, so I'm not sure why the sound changes radically with the detune mapping even when the fundamental note is not being changed. Is it altering the waveform of the detuned voices in some way? I wanted to try and approximate this sound in something like Massive as an exercise.
lol i might... i just spent small a fortune on ni plugins and i don't have any money just a longing for a bit more unison control. have to say i'm loving fm8 though :)
try making some double time patterns (kick on first beat, snare on second) instead of on the third like with dubstep. also add a cowbell sample or a ride over the kick.
your tutorials are great! I usally understand most of everything you say but I cant help feeling like a noob every once in a while though when you say certain terms. sounds nerdy, but ever thought of doing a vocabulary video for things you say in context constantly? thumbs up guys so he can see this.
can you do, or have you already done, a tutorial on how to make drum patterns like yours, mine just always sound so terrible (probs cos i dont know how to master them/how to do anything)
Seamless, I'm wondering if there is a way to automate the harmonic unison pitch during a bassline as an automation clip. I like what it can do by moving during the bass playback. However I can't for the life of me figure out modulation/automation. :S
question. if you do not own harmor and you are resampling, detuning your samples or using unison pitch to varying degrees. do you just continue doing this each resample to make it sound as mad as this. its just so cool that you can give every point of the spectrum its own unison pitch. my frequency splitter only caters for 3 bands so how the hell can i expect to achieve anything near that!
hey dude, can you explain with which effect plugins and with which settings each has u use für the Reese? I've downlaoded the preset and put the chorus on like u and stuff, but it sounds like shit in comparism to yours.... nice greetings. Tom
Hi. Its a bit late but still : How do you get that square wave to be a bit sawy in the first patch ? I see how you get the second waveform in the second bass, by flatening the harmonic response of the first harmonics of the square wave. But the first one ? Plz halp. :'(
When I play a second note on top another using the mainbass preset, the note doesnt influence the pitch of the first. It just plays parallel with first note making them both sounds garbled. What am I missing?
make sure you have legit purchased plugins and not cracked/torrented as these versions are plagued with glitches which really disrupt the sound formats your daw interprets. i can almost guarantee if you save a few "poop" presets and open them up on a legit copy of the soft synth it'll sound pristine and hot!
Man. Seems like I'm not patient enough. Everytime I play around with some knobs, it turns out to sound like a bunch of poop. Great tutorial, as always though :)
Years later and I'm still coming back to listen to you. The best part about your videos were the explanations of all the fundamentals that came to make the sound. No ones doing it like you did man. This shit is timeless.
i just told my self i need to go back and watch his track from scratch they are super valuable
Your work is a bass gold. Seriously Thanks!
I make bass noises like this, and someone mentioned to me that harmor was good, so i searched for a video that would be relevant to my style and I found this - it's perfect!
Good stuff Seamless

This is f**king brilliant!! the best reese tutorial i've seen by far!
Turn down? Turn down for what?
His voice is louder than the beat xD
I'm glad you've released a NON resampled/vocodex version - I don't like the 'watery' effect that those produce. This is exactly what I was looking for - thank you man!
such an awesome tutorial, you are seriously my favorite sub for music tutorials, you explain stuff so well. keep up the good work!
True, I started off on Reason. It really doesn't matter which tools you're using, as long as you're comfortable with it and it gets the job done.
Thanks Bro I used to make hip-hop beats but now I dig this neuro shyyt, gunna make some dope glitch hop.
Yeah, a creative mind, I like every kind of music, except classic, that's a bit too slow, but I respect it though.
Harmor kicks ass. Thank you this is awesome!!

your composition can be a bit all over the place at 140, but at 175 you are beast, make more dnb :) keep up the good work.

you're an excellent teacher
absolutelly sick video, thank you

"if your turned up, i would advise you to turn down" TURN DOWN FOR WHATTT!?!? *bass drops*
***** responsible derryn ftw :)
21:30 he uses slide notes. they don't work with VST's but Harmor is native so nice and easy :)
Massive is not a bad tool, it is actually a very useful tool. I learned Massive before I was introduced to Seamless, it was the way I went. It is a way for beginners. Which is better, Sytrus or Massive? It is still a personal preference. As long as it sounds good, who cares how they got it?

0:24 TURN DOWN FOR WHAT
Dayum, that pitch thicc
Incredibly awesome, as usual :)
What's your computer's spec? Love the videos.
grate video for sure
10:28 that bass was huge!!

everyone loves a bit of drums and gootch
24:53 that reveerb thingy sounds weird
25:04 woow how can i get this
How do I create automation clips for certain parameters. The typical "Right click > create automation clip" option isn't there.
I would like to see a tut on how to make it from scratch. Or how it basically works.
Hi Seamless! A question, how do you make de notes you play go legato? In harmor you don't have the button legato on, maybe i'm not looking clear?:P
How do you change the patteen by clicking on the ghost note?
lllJoseLuislll Double right click it
starterpivot THX
lllJoseLuislll No problem
Thank you. Subscribed! ;)
9:00 "Depth" bro :)
That felt good
hey dude, can you explain with which effect plugins and with which settings each has u use für the Reese?
I've downlaoded the preset and put the chorus on like u and stuff, but it sounds like shit in comparism to yours....
nice greetings. Tom
great tutorial. those drum samples are sick. wow.
klinkt wel leuk
Do you make your own samples (percussion i mean) or do you get them from somewhere
You have to buy the pack it comes with harmor, sytrus and massive presets made by Seamless and Shaun Law I think
Hi. Its a bit late but still : How do you get that square wave to be a bit sawy in the first patch ? I see how you get the second waveform in the second bass, by flatening the harmonic response of the first harmonics of the square wave. But the first one ? Plz halp. :'(
By changing Local EQ
That sounds really awesome !!!! not like my crapsongs :D
Looks like you accepted my challenge. :D Great work man!
how do i do the high-tech/psytrance bassline (kicks, bass) ?
It isn't like Massive at all. It's not wavetable, it's additive and subtractive; it works completely differently.
What about in Sytrus?
awesome
I made a test of neuro bass, here it is :)
soundcloud.com/olaamapolox/cthulhu-neuro-dnb-final
nice:)
its good, feelin that drop :D
Seamless. Where are you from?
saw you said you'd upload this on tastycat :)
turn it down? turn that shit up mate
When I play a second note on top another using the mainbass preset, the note doesnt influence the pitch of the first. It just plays parallel with first note making them both sounds garbled. What am I missing?
+CFFT When you are in the piano roll section, there is a little triangle in top left corner above Abc button. That's what you need i think.
veryhardhun
Worked. Thank you. :]
or you just check "legato" in de Global section of harmor
check out this Reese tutorial! Reese Tutorial (Noisia, Koan Sound, Neosignal, Joe Ford, Spor)
The ONLY reason I can follow you at all is I've been a flooper since 2006 ... you talk almost as fast as I think!
Oh my god, thank you
i can't get that wobble on my sound (I mean it's not as fast which is annoying)
what am i doing wrong?
*****
How? the pan? Thanks. pan didnt do it for me but i noticed his was up a TINY bit. lol

I love you.

Can you upload the Preset?? :D
25:36 GOOD DAY!!!??? WHAT!!
EMPIRE :DDDD

I Like
Wow. Fucking wow!
Spent most of the video fiddling about in harmor recreating the basses to then be told the presets are in the description...
Man. Seems like I'm not patient enough. Everytime I play around with some knobs, it turns out to sound like a bunch of poop. Great tutorial, as always though :)
"experimenting by enabling step editing and turning off snap and just phhhllbbhht"
lol'd for some reason
Distort Distort Distorrrrrt!
Turn down for what!
:D
