if i remember correctly farmers help farm all fields not just the one they are assigned so its benefical to stagger your planting and harvesting
I need to do a bit of research on this as I thought they only work on their assigned field!

5x7 farms require three farmers, if you slap four of those you have roughly the same field area of a 12x12, but you need one less worker and can grow different crops. But it's more micro in late game. So I'm following your playthrough and going with a 12x12 and will see how it goes!
yea, I never do it perfect, mainly because i'm too lazy haha

I tend to do about half to three quarters of whatever recommended farm workers, the full amount is a waste of labour. yet to notice much benefit

Do you use the production limits at all? I find with firewood production, if I set it at twice the consumed amount it keeps it level.

I'm still on 9.1a but I can get away with 5 farmers on a 12X12. I am not sure if that has been tweaked with 9.2 but its worth a try!

You have to opt into the beta branch. The Farthest Frontier Forums have a post on how to do it
