  • Rewind to 2021. Dragging a forgotten, broke-down Square Body Chevy out of the weeds is always a good time. Or at least, entertaining. Maybe we can save it from going to the scrapper!

1987 was the only year for those generation Chevy & GMC half ton & three quarter ton regular cab pickups with gasoline fuel injected motors.

@@torquealleygarage & 1987 was also the first year for the R/V series. The reason they renamed those square bodies the R/V series was to make a distinction between them & the new upcoming OBS pickups for the 1988 model year because both of those body designs were gonna be in production at the same time which lasted up through 1991. Only the regular cab pickups were redesigned in 1988 & not to forget 1988 was also the first year for the optional extended cabs which were on those pickups too. The crew cab pickups & SUVs with the square body design were still in production up through 1991. From 1987 - 1991, all of the square body models were R/V series & the OBS models were C/K series which were last on the square body models in 1986.

@@torquealleygarage 1973 was the first year for those square bodies except the nose on the front, emblems, interior, gas filler hole, & fleetside tailgate each had a different design. They still had round shaped headlamps at the time up through the year 1980. 1980 was also the first year for square shaped headlamps which came standard on models with the Silverado & Sierra Classic trim levels & optional on the others. 1979 was the first year for the gas filler door & smaller size gas cap inside like what's on that red R10 in the video. In 1981, the nose on the front, emblems, interior, & fleetside tailgate were redesigned to the same designs as that red R10, except for the grille & headlamp bezels which didn't come out until 1985.

@@torquealleygarage what's interesting is the one ton regular cab pickups were the only models with both body designs built at the same time which was from 1988 - 1989.
