- This is my review of the Freenote Belford in two different fabrics: 17oz slub Yoshiwa sanforized, 14.5oz Kaihara sanforized. I really like the pattern of these jeans although they may only fit slimmer people well.

I bought my first selvedge a few months ago and went with the Bravestar Okayama 15.5 in True Straight. After 20 wears I had to retire them because the hips never loosened up and was awful to wear. I lift eights a bit, so I have some meaty thighs hips. I finally went for the Freenote Kaihara Trabuco’s and the fit is spot on for me. Love these The Trabuco has a much wider top block, not too loose, not too tight. So for all you thicc boys, try them on, you might find a nice fit.
I had the exact same rivet fail on a pair of 17oz bravestar jeans. It was Japanese denim as well. I just replaced it myself. Couldn’t find the exact color but I thought it was fun to have one off color rivet. I feel like that’s what you would do back in the day. Rivets were common in hardware stores. I just ordered normal denim rivets from Amazon.
Freenote jeans seem to be very well made in general. I feel like the rivet this could happen to any pair. So far I have loved everything I’ve gotten from Freenote. Just got the Ice Tiger Aloha shirt most recently and it’s 🔥🔥.
That’s cool you replaced the rivet! Yeah, maybe I’ll do it down the road….The Freenote Hawaiian shirt you got is awesome! I absolutely love the prints they choose!
I wish people would do a review of Prison Blues jeans and Key jeans, the double loggers.
I really like your combo black leather/brown fur jacket! Very handsome! 👍
Thanks!
great cut, very proportional to your body. I always struggle to find pants/jeans that fit. Large thighs, small calves
Thanks! Yeah, the proportion thing is so hard to nail, but it’s nice when you get it. I’m trying to find a jean with these proportions that’s unsanforized. Considering trying Fullcount 1108.
For someone just getting into selvedge denim, how should I choose between different fabrics and weights? I was interested in the Portola and not really sure how the styles differ.
Any standard fabric between 12oz and 14.5oz is good to start with.
Nice review! I was thinking about buying a pair of Wilkes by freenote. Any experience with those?
The Wilkes looks great! Unfortunately, I haven’t tried them. Western cut isn’t quite my thing right now (although it once was), and I like the higher rise of the Belford.
The Wilkes is very good, slithly lower on hips and little more tapered but not much, a little flirt with the 70s. Yoshiwa or Kaihara is a matter of taste. But Kaihara for more dressy and Kaihara for casual in my opinion
Actually, the Wilkes and Belford are identical cuts! (There can be slight variations between runs, but comparing the 17 oz versions of Wilkes and Belford, they are identical, unless the back rise is different which isn't listed.) The only difference is the Wilkes has a zipper and different pockets, perhaps other little details. I learned this when I measured my Wrangler 13MWZ and found they were also identical to Belford.@@thevintagefuture6567
Coming back 11 months later. Just bought a pair of Belford’s for 115 on Grailed. I can’t afford a new pair of jeans, but I’m super excited to be getting these. They are the 15 oz version, and I keep coming back to your vid in anticipation for getting them 😅
