Great collection! lol fabric collector! That’s what I’ll tell my wife next time I’m looking at a $200+ pair of jeans. Haha I only have one pair. The nightshade selevedge from N&F and agree it has shrunk significantly washed a few times always on cold and hung dry. When I first got them, I probably cuffed them 2-3 times and now I only do one cuff or no cuff. I’ve been thinking about trying out Kato or gettin the natural indigo from N&F as my second pair. Thanks for sharing your collection with us!
Great collection. I currently own and rotate btwn RMC, 3sixteen, Oni, Iron Heart, Glenn’s, Sid Mashburn, Sugar Cane, and PBJ. My favorite pairs are from Iron Heart (for the fit) and PBJ for the fabric.
You've got great taste!I got the wrong size in Iron Heart and they didn't restock for like a year and i moved onto another one, I'm thinking about getting some heavier black ones from them though for winter!
Great video, thank you. I have two pairs of Iron Heart, 777-21 and 555-21. One pair of Freenote Cloth Avila cut 17oz. Working hard on getting the IH to fade and they are finally getting some solid whiskering and electric blue coming through. I love the slow fading because when jeans get to that Indigo Invitational level of heavy fade point they aren’t really something I can wear anymore, except maybe on a weekend ride or around the house. Love these different cuts. The 777 is designed to be higher rise so you don’t get plumbers butt on the MC. Highly recommend IH-21 to other MCists.

Great Video! I have a closet full of selvedge denim, far too many for one person. Last count was in the 14-15 pairs as well. Favorite black denim is freenote cloth 17oz and favorite indigo pair would be my 14oz 888s from Iron Heart. Own some heavier weight stuff as well but does not get as much wear these days.
Oni secret denim and Iron heart 21oz, maybe the two most important jeans in the world that I took took too long to get my legs into! trying to work on them this winter :)
I am actually very new to selvedge denim. In about a month I have gotten 5 pairs... Iron Heart 634S and four pairs from Naked & Famous: True Guy Matcha, Craftsman, and two pairs of the MIJ12 one in True Guy and one in Weird Guy. The unfortunate part is that I work a job that has me in uniform 40+ hours a week so already this amount is going to take YEARS to fade. But I dig them!

I have those exact same Raleigh jeans. I hate to admit it but they are by far the best jeans I've ever owned. You really get what you pay for with them. They fade SUPER slow though. I've worn mine probably close to every day since I bought them, and they took months to start showing any wear.

Great collection and video. I rotate between Nudie, N &F, Momotaro, Bravestar, Railcar, and Gustin. But my two pairs with the best fades are my Tobacco jeans. Tobaccos are Kevlar lined and built for motorcycle riders and after 7 years of wear they look and feel amazing. I’ve also had the crotch repaired on 4 of these pairs so far.
love that you get the crotch repaired, i'm always surprised there aren't more jeans with that crotch reinforcement i see, so there's not like a seam right underneath you
Awesome collection Nick! Like you, my collection has also reached double digits at 20. Four pair of jeans in rotation at a time. Right now I have N&F Dynamic Duo Selvedge in the “GOAT” slot of the rotation. My black pair is an altered RGT HT stealth. My “crazy” slot is the pickle Rick Selvedge from N&F. They are green cast high slub to resemble the surface of a pickle. In my “no frills” slot I have a pair of Uniqlo slim/straight stretch. The pickle jeans are a bit too tight in the waist so, I’m planning a purchase this year. I want to move away from N&F so as to shake the fanboy stigma. I might have to cop me some Secret Denim… I need a straight fit, because I’m in the Southwest.. I can only have so many jeans that I can only tuck into cowboy boots without getting beat up!

5 pairs here. Momotaro, Iron Heart, 3sixteen x 2 and UES. I'm starting to think even 5 is too many because you're always neglecting the other 4. UES are my favourite because of fit and fabric
Nice Video! Do you know if the 14.5oz Indigo Selvedge Denim from the unbranded brand is similar to the Left Hand Twill from N&F? It looks very similar and I think unbranded is a sub brand of N&F? Because I ordered some unbranded jeans that fit nicely in the waist, but are a bit too uncomfortably tight in the glute/upper thigh area (also the lifting problem :D). But if they are stretching out quite a bit like you mentioned it could be just fine. Greetings from Germany
Unbranded is a sub brand of N&F but their denim is made in Macau so I don't know if you can say it's the SAME fabric, but I think it's basically a repro of their left hand twill yeah.

Hi Nick, I am really keen to get my first pair of selvedge denim but, being based in Ireland, I just don't have access to these kinds of US-based or Japan-based brands. It's a gamble to pay relatively large amounts for jeans I haven't tried on, plus the import fees/taxes on top. Can you (or anyone else reading) recommend a reputable EU-based store? The knowledge that I could return a pair that didn't fit without TOO much trouble would help me take the plunge.
i like Ginew's mission, I'm just not that jazzed about their fabrics/patterns. Like they don't have the right fit for their jeans for me, I was thinking about their denim jacket but I don't like how the brown collar would make it hard to wear with black jeans, which is my favorite thing to wear with denim jackets? idk. they are cool though
@@Stridewise Embrace the wider jeans, and become one of us! One of us! Jokes aside - Remember rules are meant to be broken, so wear brown and black together! It mixes well (at least in my opinion). Also I think they just released a Denim jacket without a brown collar called the Niizhoo, maybe that's what you are looking for? I completely agree they are a cool brand, with a dope mission!
I'm also a collector in life. Except I'm an idiot collector, but the idiots I collected tell me I'm the biggest idiot they know. I am struggling to wear enough of my two jeans with a third coming. Holy how do you do 15?
i've come to like stretch jeans it's just crappy when it's warm because it doesn't breathe as well. But these brands have pretty big thighs: stridewise.com/best-athletic-fit-jeans/
I never realise how small most men's thighs are until I started wearing Naked & Famous. The slim guy and skinny guy were completely unwearable, and the weird guy is very snug but okay, but that easy guy fit is unreal, crazy how hard it is to find jeans that go back inward at the waist!
I know that there has been more planned obsolescence these past 10-15 yrs. But i have Levi's from early 2000s that are outlasting newer pairs that tear at the back pockets and crotch. I know you get what you pay for but damn... Jeans even at $100 make me antsy that I'm basically poor.
@@Stridewise Nice! I dig your style - the aesthetics and the knowledge behind it. Your articles and videos played a role in my falling down the rabbit hole of waxed canvas jackets. Now I have (too many to admit to publicly). With jackets came an interest in better clothing in general. I bought new hangers. Twice. I'll be sending you a bill for your part in this.
Great video and collection. I went big and then curated as I found certain brands had great fabric but didn't work for me on fit, rise, or weight (Momotara, Samurai, Studio Dartisan). I currently own: Oni secret denim 902zr, PBJ Kakashibu (weirdly, I had mine hemmed too short as well), IH 666 21oz OD, IH 666s 21 0z, The Strike Gold with the brown weft which is amazing, and lastly, the bad boys - IH 666 25oz. I resisted wearing the 25oz for so long as I couldn't do them up and they made my skin raw because of how tight they were. Now they have loosened up they have become the pair I reach for alongside The Strike Gold. I have been cursed by the weight though. Anything under 17oz feels too light for me now.
That's funny you have the same Kakishibu! They're still a bit big on my butt but they'll have to do. Never liked brown weft jeans myself, especially because half the time brands call it "mud dyed" haha. I'm about to get some 21oz Iron hearts and am already stressed about the sizing, I got a 14oz pair once expecting them to stretch and they didn't so I had to sell them.
@@Stridewise Mindfulness medication is great and the techniques that TM have been helpful for so many people! Check out the documentary David Wants to Fly sometime.
Mate, that's a lot of expensive denim. Do you get into the whole denim-head thing where you don't ever wash them, and they wind up smelling like balls? I live in Utah, so I'm not sure I'd get away with that. It just gets too hot in the summer here, and my wife would end up saying something.
@@Stridewise i didn’t mean to offend you but i stand my ground : 1) you have 15 pairs of jeans spread over 11 brands , which is clearly too many brands (according to another one of your video btw ). 2) the breakdown of these 15 pairs of jeans by category is : 6 from a good japanese brand (Oni, PBJ, Momotaro and SDA), 6 from « small » american brands (i put the swedish one in this group too, to simplify things) and 3 from N&F. So you can’t say that good Japanese brands are the majority of your collection considering they represent only 40% of it. 3) This is why i said your collection appeared strange to me with a clear lack of focus on a reasonable number of brands or a main origin of jeans. 4) to be fair, here is my collection (so you can pass judgement if you want ;) ) : 2 SDA, 1 Momotaro and 1 Warehouse. I am in the process of looking for a black pair of jeans (from Oni or Momotaro again maybe) and I consider buying a pair of fullcount or sugar cane jeans later : i started anew my collection recently so i am kind of exploring things again. The knowledge that I could return a pair that didn't fit without TOO much trouble would help me take the plunge.
Iron Heart has a UK store! www.ironheart.co.uk/?ktk=YnJHczhNLTgyMGZmYzQ0YjAw There are also some British brands like Blackhorse and Dawson's
@@Stridewise Appreciate the reply, Nick.
Brexit ruined buying from the UK but I will check these out for sure, thanks! :-)
Amazing collection Nick.
Also, how come you dont own anything from Ginew yet?
i like Ginew's mission, I'm just not that jazzed about their fabrics/patterns.
What happened to your Tanuki Aizome? Did you have those just for review, or did you get rid of them?
They were a size small, I waited for them to come back but they never did :(
man you're kinda a big N$F fan!
Wow no Samurai is surprising!
My favorite pair in my collection which is only 8 pairs 😅 is my momotaro year of the rabbit.
Nice portrait of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Now, that’s not your average denimhead!
I'm a renaissance man!
3:31 Its not pronounce Lie Burd, its Liburd like Liberty
Straight legs are all I want….my top half is too big to go slim tapered
I'm also a collector in life. Except I'm an idiot collector, but the idiots I collected tell me I'm the biggest idiot they know.
I am struggling to wear enough of my two jeans with a third coming. Holy how do you do 15?
Where did you get the white Henley? What brand?
they're called "hnly"
@@Stridewise Thanks a bunch!!
What are ur thoughts on elastane in denim? I can never find 100% cotton jeans that fit my thighs.
get a bigger size??
i've come to like stretch jeans it's just crappy when it's warm because it doesn't breathe as well. But these brands have pretty big thighs: stridewise.com/best-athletic-fit-jeans/
I never realise how small most men's thighs are until I started wearing Naked & Famous. The slim guy and skinny guy were completely unwearable, and the weird guy is very snug but okay, but that easy guy fit is unreal, crazy how hard it is to find jeans that go back inward at the waist!
i know i'm just getting my jeans tailored these days, i've waved the white flag
Im not even a fashion journalist like you and i have 12 pairs, i didnt think i had a problem until now 😅
you can always say "well at least i'm not as bad as nick from stridewise"
No Brave Star?⭐.... Made in Los Angeles
No Iron Heart? Great video 😊
getting some 21oz black 888 next week!
@@Stridewise nice!
I know that there has been more planned obsolescence these past 10-15 yrs. But i have Levi's from early 2000s that are outlasting newer pairs that tear at the back pockets and crotch. I know you get what you pay for but damn... Jeans even at $100 make me antsy that I'm basically poor.
Stretch jeans it's classy.
Anyone have thoughts on Freenote Cloth?
I have a couple of their jackets, they're dope! I talk about their deck jacket analogue here ua-cam.com/video/Za6yawG1sMc/v-deo.html
Ny rotation is getting out of hand. 2x Iron Hearts, 2x RGT, Oni, 3sixteen. Dont get ne started on the flannels 😂
Those ecru Oni go hard!!!
THANK YOU those are like my favorite jeans to break out in summer.
@@Stridewise I wear mine year round! The warm tone also goes great with fall colors
We ❤ selvedge
@@Stridewise I would go tts or one size down on IH. The 21oz is a lovely fabric. Easy to wear in and a slow fader. Good for work. Enjoy buddy
@@kingstrumper531 thanks, yeah I like black jeans to be pretty smooth and plain so I can get more texture on top
i feel like he only listens to music on 180gram first press vinyl records
Can someone in this comment section please point me to a good tailor that can repair jeans? Thank you.
Aren't you supposed to have just as many pairs of selvedge denim jeans as you have pairs of boots? Asking for a friend... 😅
Who is that bearded guy depicted on your shelf?
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi haha, he founded transcendental meditation, which I practice
@@Stridewise Mindfulness medication is great and the techniques that TM have been helpful for so many people! Check out the documentary David Wants to Fly sometime.
Dude…. No iron hearts or samurai???? Swing and a miss ;) pbj 👍
You're looking sharp in those black Alden Indy's Nick. Stunning boots that level up any outfit. Keep up the great work!
Good eye - thanks Ranger!
Mate, that's a lot of expensive denim. Do you get into the whole denim-head thing where you don't ever wash them, and they wind up smelling like balls? I live in Utah, so I'm not sure I'd get away with that. It just gets too hot in the summer here, and my wife would end up saying something.
God no, I'm a big proponent of washing your gd jeans!
I can't be the only one who paused the video to see what Nick has on his bookshelf, right?
Musicals, sword and sorcery, theology at a quick glance. I'd say he's got quite a wide spanning range of topics he's interested in.
A renaissance man and a style guru :)
Thank you, but Nick is also quite intellectually adventurous and roguishly stylish it seems ;)
@@BB-gl7zt damn guys keep saying nice things about me. fun fact I have a Master's in religion!
And I thought I had too many pants.
I love my Brave Star 21.5 oz jeans.
I had a pair but the rise was too low, I'm curious about their strongman jeans though
A ladys dream
Strange collection . Why so many N&F and unknown American brands ? Personally I only buy Japanese denim ( among the Osaka 5 or Momotaro or TCB)
I've got Pure Blue Japan, Oni, Studio d'Artisan, and Momotaro! What are you talking about
@@Stridewise i didn’t mean to offend you but i stand my ground : 1) you have 15 pairs of jeans spread over 11 brands , which is clearly too many brands (according to another one of your video btw ). Anyway stay cool dude, it is just a random internet comment
lol 15 pairs of jeans and almost zero fading.
hey i gave the caveat
I think Levis can cover anything you want, with classic American heritage, dependable, and priced well. Personally, I can’t justify spending as much as $300 for jeans. But to each their own.
Ok quads father
quadzilla
Why stupid selvedge denim collection
First pair was Studio. You didn't ease into raw denim. You jumped in with both feet.
Yeah it was very funny soaking these jeans on day 1 like "jesus this selvedge subculture is a lot"
