I think an old Golf like this isn't a bad basis, it doesn't have the best drag coefficient, but it's narrow and low and quite light. The consumption is really good for the old engine and gives hope for good things =)
Thanks for starting this project! i'm planning also to convert my Mk2 Golf GTI. I already have a 160kW Leaf motor and MEB battery pack. Looking forward to new video especially with the Leaf motor. I want to fit the complete Leaf motor incl its original subframe into the Golf.
Well, the 13,7 kWh is a bit more than the latest e-GOLF built in 2020 is using at 80 km/h but that car has regeneration on board and I guess the Mark 2 has no generative breaking anymore which increases consumption compared to e-GOLF Mk 7. 6:50 you mentioned that it has no regen braking. I like this series and I am still asking myself if these crazy tall old "citystromer supercharger" are still useable and working or just a nice fit to the car ? It looks like a golf country cause the car chassis is so high up. I like the upgrade path to nissan leaf motor and ID.3 battery but made me wonder why you did not took a full drive train. But I guess the new ID.3 motor is a different beast without clutch and gearbox the Citystromer still has. But I will like the challenge you are taking to bring the car back to former glory. And of cause it is a classic car aka oldtimer - at least here. I had learned to drive a car on such golf and therefore it looks so familiar. The citystromer has been released soon after Roxette started their big carreer which were the haydays of such GOLF Genesis or Pink Floyd and what not edition. Each band has its tour sponsor and usually a GOLF special edition back in those days.
Glad to hear that you liked it. I will try to keep the original gearbox with the clutch and everything, so it still will be the same feeling to drive. It’s much more work, but I think it can be worth it in the end. Thank you for your comment.☺️
@@flyingtools At the end the car will have a higher value with more genuine parts and less changes. There are just so few left cause a lot of those had ended in scrap metal in the 2009 when you got a 5000€ incentive if you buy a new car and gave away an old one you had owned for 5 years. At that time a lot of Citystromer had been no longer working due to missing spare parts and missing tech to upgrade it. I like the whole idea how you had started it just by buying one, get what was there like the old chargers and then evolve the idea from lead acid to powered by etron and later id.3 I guess here in germany such car in genuine look and feel l (outside & dashboard and without to many cuts in the metal and dents) think this car will have an increasing value cause it represents the early stages of electric drive train. It was a project at the end of the VW CEO Carl Hahn, who had laid the foundation of nowadays VW group with the Skoda and Seat brands, also all the chinese market shares and joint ventures. Great project and progress, unique content and great adventure.
really cool test I have a 2015 e Golf with 120 000 km on it now and the maximum range I think I could manage is 110 km's . too bad you are not using the e Golf motor assembly the axle shaft would possibly fit in the MK2 and it would keep this historic citystromer all VW plus you are going to use VW battery pack.
I would love to have it all VW, but sadly I cannot get the canbus protocol to work so therefore I will go with the leaf set up. But I will only use the motor, inverter and charger and I will keep the original gearbox and also the clutch, so it will have the original feeling of the citystromer even after the upgrade. It will of course be a lot more work but I think it will be worth it in the end..
Congratulations on the new project !, just wanted to ask about the bms you used .Does it alow to be linked in series or you just use them to monitor the cells and charging/discharging is not through bms
Hi, and thank you😃. I only monitor the voltage and charge through one of the BMS and I am watching those numbers carefully when I am doing so, and this is just a temporary because I will change to a high voltage battery later on as you probably heard in the video.☺️ Thank you so much for your comment 😊
13,7kwh/100km is really nice for that ol Golf! (For reference: I drive my ID Buzz Cargo @ 18-22kwh/100km, 18kwh without heating or cooling, up to 22kwh with it) But I would rather prefer an VW T3 converterted to electric 😃
There needs to be more of this kind of thing, making old cars into EV’s rather than buying new cars. The carbon foot print on a 30 year old car thats done 100k or more , surely is better suited for the environment than just starting again with a fresh car.
The car did not have any 12 V battery. It only has 12 V when the ignition is on so every time I switch it off the clock resets itself for example when I need to pee,😅 or did a quick stop to check the cell voltages etc.

Great conversion and feels more 'doable' than converting a normal petrol mk2 Golf. If only there were more of them around!
Hi and thank you. 😃
Yes, they are really rare.
Amazing project, really enjoyed watching this. Good job.
Thank you so much sir🤩
Wow, that's really nice! An Id.3 does 20kWh/100 km year round.
Thanks 😊

Grymt som vanligt. Keep up the god work 👍💪
Tack😘
Wow, det är längre än vad min E-tron går! Den drar väldigt mycket el! Den har förstås andra fördelar men ändå,,,
Så sant, det är ju en grymt fin och välutrustad bil e tron👍🏻👍🏻

Yes it’s pretty good. I’d buzz is so cool!!
I would love to have one😍
Thanks for your comment 😊
Wait for the winter and come here to say those consumption numbers again 🤭
Amazing! I want one too!
Yes it’s really great, thank you so much for your comment😃
And while tesla björn makes another 1000 km "techically detailed" drive...😂
Awesome video and so nice mk2😍
Haha, yes i know this is so basis compared to his videos.
Im glad you liked it anyway 😊
@@flyingtools sarcasm? His videos are just bs nowdays, bananabox and 1000 km test, thats it
@@dot7107Your opinion and motto is bs. We should end multiopinionism now and as you have not my opinion, you should be deported to Mars now!
if you are not discharging via the bms but still want protection, why not let the output of the bms switch a contactor. Or a indicaton light?
I will only use this setup for a short period so I just did this as simple as possible for now.

hi , what is the trouble with the clock in the speedometer ?
The car did not have any 12 V battery. It only has 12 V when the ignition is on so every time I switch it off the clock resets itself for example when I need to pee,😅 or did a quick stop to check the cell voltages etc.
How about a solar trailer? That would be very cool
Or maybe I take my battery trailer instead😉
hi
could you help me ?
I would like to buy li-ion car batteries to make a power wall for my house
i have seen nothing in blocket
thank´s
Hi. I bought my from bildelsbasen.
Take a look there.

What is this music in the intro?
Signs for times.
Rockin' For Decades
imponerande! Vad blir total kostnad för leaf motor o 55kw batteri?
Tack😃
Jag inte räknat på det ännu men jag kommer ta det i en video framöver.
200km or?
Ok, start video 😀
