We leave behind the stunning scenery at Cogden Beach with its blue sea, and arrive at the beautiful picturesque village of Abbotsbury in Dorset, with it's thatched roofed cottages, welcoming feel and friendly locals.
This village is steeped in history and has remains of an Abbey, although the remains are small, but some can be found in the nearby church of St Nicholas.
It also has a Chapel high up on a hill called St Catherine's, where women would go and pray to St Catherine in the hope of finding a husband.
The village also has footpaths and it is possible to walk to Chesil Beach from there too. This really is a beautiful village in the English countryside.
Please feel free to comment on our videos, we really enjoy the interaction with people that watch our adventures. You can also subscribe if you like, it's free and you'll be notified when we upload another video if you turn on the notification bell.

Bei schönem Wetter sieht gleich alles viel freundlicher aus 😃 Die Akustik in der alten Kirche war Beeindruckend 😲
Thanks Thorsten, yes the old Chapel was very echoey.
Thank you lovely people. Fantastic village, beautiful surroundings and lots of history. Stay well and safe travels. All the best. 👍🐾🚐🐾😎
Thanks so much Rob.😊 It is very lovely there, just such a pretty and historical place.
Wow, if these videos don't increase visitors to Dorset I don't know what will. You've captured the scenery beautifully. (Tie-the by the way).
Thank you so much and thought it would be pronounced like that, but I'd never even heard of it til then!😁
What a lovely village! A complete new location to me. I most liked that beautifully located chapel. Wonderful drone shots over that chapel too. It's was certainly a refreshing day and vlog. I feel like go out again soon!
Yes it's a great place. Very picturesque town and the Chapel is in a stunning location. There is also a Swannery that has 600 swans there apparently and some historical artifacts. It was closed when we walked to it though.
Beautiful video, love those `chocolate box` cottages and the church was well worth visiting, superb stained glass windows.
Agree, its just so pretty to see. We drove through there last year and saw we could park so.just had to go this time round. Such a lovely place.
Yes it is nice village I’ve never heard of it. One of those little Gems. I enjoyed my few days around Dorset. An old school friend invited me down not seen him for 50 years live in a thatched cottage.
How lovely to get to go and visit a friend in a lovely part of England. We discovered Abbotsbury last year when we drove from the beach in the last video to Portland and really wanted to go there.
Lovely and peaceful. Sun out too! Bonus! :)
Yeah, lovely to see the sun out again. Always makes a nice change to see blue skies.
Agree. A beautiful place. I stayed near Abbotsbury for a few days last year before moving on. Very nice place. Loved your video ... as always!
Aw thanks so much. Yes, it's a very beautiful place. Proper chocolate box scenery.
Interesting! 👍😎🇨🇦
Thanks very much.😁
What a lovely place, I keep saying you find great park ups ✌🙏💙
Thanks. It was lovely with a very relaxed atmosphere. Nice to find places with no restrictions.
What a beautiful place. Looks like it has everything we love, history, countryside views, not too far away from sea and not too busy. The chapel and the notes are so lovely and it defiantly makes you smile.
It's a lovely place and it has accommodation called Abbey House I think, but other accommodation too I'm sure. I think you two would love it. It also has a swannery there that has 600 swans and a maze in the shape of a Swan but it wasn't open when we walked down there.
Lovely relaxing video to watch. Such a gorgeous village and surroundings. A real pretty part of the country. Just ace!
Thanks very much. We had a lovely time there, although Nanook was naughty after we stopped filming and dived in the pool after the swans after the extendable lead failed to lock. They were gonna have him too lol, they showed no fear!
@@roaminginraymond oh bless. They just never learn
@@SilvertopMotorhomers you're right there.😊
Abbotsbury looks really lovely. £8.40 isn’t too bad at all. Think we’d like it there. Lovely walk up the hill too. St Catherine’s chapel is in a beautiful location . Nice spot to leave a little promise and a little prayer. 🙏❤️ aww Nanook 🐶 So pleased you found something you could eat Helen. great vlog. Really makes us want to visit. 😊🧙♂️
Thanks you two. It's a really lovely place and we had a very peaceful night there. There's a Swannery there too but it was closed when we walked to it. And not too far to walk to Chesil beach either.
Great videography…very atmospheric of the chapel 😍
Thanks very much.😊 We really liked Abbotsbury, it's a lovely village. My nans surname was Brookes.
@@roaminginraymond Brookes is a great name, Derren makes me feel proud every day to hold the name of Brookes 😍. Not sure why we haven’t come across your channel before, just subscribed 😍
It is a great name, I agree. We were always told Brookes with an E lol. Thanks for subscribing, we'll take a look at yours too. Not seen it so take it your relatively new.
@@roaminginraymond hugely new…and still learning massively. So feel free to help us with hints and tips 😍
@@roaminginraymond oh and every time we are asked our surname, we always say ‘Brookes…with an E’ 😍
Oooooh that looks a nice park up! Might give that one a go sometime. Been to the chapel a few years ago. A lovely place to go. And the sun was out!!!!!! 🌞 ☀️
Thanks for taking us there!
Forgot to say on your last vid that I nearly fell off my seat laffin' 🤣 when Karl got chased up the beach by a wave 🌊 🌊 🌊
Ju
Xx
It's a lovely little town. Yeah, how Karl managed to keep his feet dry I don't know 😆
Lovely part of the country. One of our favourites. I discovered how wonderful the area is on a business trip to Weymouth years ago. Ps. We have got loads of Lambs bouncing around in Rutland. Cheers from old George
Aw, love seeing the lambs and we've hardly seen any on our travels yet. Hopefully we will, they're just so cute to see. We will have to come to Rutland sometime. I know there are some campsites around Rutland Water that I keep looking at.😁
Nice video of Abbotsbury you two. Been there quite a few times over the years. St Catherine's Chapel is so picturesque stuck there on the hill. There are some great walks way above the village too, with more magnificent views. Poor Raymond missing a skirt, hope he is fixed by now.
Mudflaps are on order. Yeah if we'd have had more time we'd have explored more but we had a lovely time. It's a very relaxing place. We'll it was when we were there.
What a super little stop Helen and Karl, nice find. That is the sort of place we would love to visit, so peaceful. The pub looked lovely, and love the idea they accept dogs too. Samantha said she would not like to be in the building on the hill in the dark lol. Great drone work Mr B 😀👍
It really is a lovely spot and such a nice pub. They had dog treats and free poo bags in the doggy corner lol. Probably not peaceful in the Summer but not sure. We drove through last year and loved the prettiness of the place and knew we wanted to go there.
Yet another great park up. Love the Chapel on the hill, its looks so powerful and important. Great drone footage, Karl's a great pilot, 😀
I'll let him know, he'll be getting a big head! It's a lovely place and worth a visit.
Yes definitely a place to visit, it's now on my roaming in Raymond recommended places to go list .
Cool.😁👍
Beautiful Abbotsbury you did it proud with your excellent filming and Karl’s drone footage was great , and what a lovely day it was too . Well done for walking to St Catherine’s chapel , that’s quite a climb and Nookie behaved himself with animals 🐕🦺 Loved your sneaky comment about asking for a husband- - ( don’t know why 😂) My favourite county thanks for the memories. Take care Byyeee 🚐👍
Thanks so much Eric. It is a beautiful place and so glad we went. After driving through last year we just had to go while we were there. Have a lovely weekend. Byyyeeeee
Nice Place, I do not object to paying to park but the "Aire" at Findhorn now wants £18 a night. That place had a magic about as well.
£18 a night is steep for an aire, unless it's got all the facilities you need. But then the one at Caerlaverock is just donations and that has fresh water and toilet waste. I think some people are just seeing £ signs unfortunately.
@@roaminginraymond Not sure what it has except an old toilet block that needs doing up. From what I have heard they need the money to provide a refit of the toilets and black disposal. Folk I know have used it at £10 and they said it was expensive for what it was at a £10
We'd pay a tenner if it's a lovely location and has a tap at least. Some people just want free all the time.
Nice one guys.
Tar very much.😁
What a fab place and such great weather. So pleased you got a good reception from the locals. Looks like a place for us to visit!
Have you been to the Malvern hills yet?
Love your choice of music to accompany the videos, so relaxing and soothing to the soul!
Stay safe and enjoy your time on the road,
Best wishes
Peter, Kim and Bentley xx
Thanks very much. No, only been to Malvern in the car with the kids and partners about 6 years ago. Not been there in the motorhome. Want sure about parking.
I enjoyed revisiting Abbotsbury, thanks for sharing. Never seen it at night before, it looked so beautiful with just the lights in the houses and the church lit up. We visited the swannery and saw cygnets being born right in front of our eyes, fresh out of the oven so to speak(!). Also the bouncing bomb on display there which was tested along the Fleet lagoon. We didn’t visit the chapel though, which looks beautiful. Love the notes left. You: “Women would come and pray to St Catherine for a husband, dunno why!” 😂
It did look lovely lit up but it was bloody dark lol, couldn't see a thing! We walked down to the Swannery but it was closed unfortunately for the winter season. Didn't know all that about it though. Sounds amazing. Might have to go back again sometime. Saw it has a maze in the shape of a swan though on Google Earth lol.
so beautiful there.
always luv the history lessons.
its a shame no one is looking after the chapple,
the paint was peeling of the wall.
they should have the time team there digging , I bet they would find lots of artiffacts, its also ashame
a lot if buildings have not survived.
scenery fantastic as always.
creepy much walking back in the dark. meet any Ghosts 👻 🤣🤣
Thanks Moira. I think the Chapel is managed by English Heritage but it was free to go around and there was nobody official around so they probably don't do much with it. It was creepy when we came out the pub, you couldn't see a thing except the house lights and I don't like the dark lol.
@@roaminginraymond
I dont like the dark
either, i have a nite lite.
Yes, I used to leave the landing light on in the house lol.
A nice quiet place there. Lovely. Was there any water taps at that park up anywhere? Just curious. Hope you saved Nookie a chip? 🧐
We didn't see one no as there wasn't even any toilets I don't think. Of course Nookie had a chip! 😁
Oh noo sorry about you’re mudflap! Helen, you made me giggle with “I’m supposed to be on a diet today” haha I say that everyday lately 😂 You’re lovely as you are honey xx
I'm putting on so much weight I can't get hardly any of my clothes on. Luckily I can still get my hoodies on so it's a good job it's cold lol. New mudflap ordered. Don't even know when we lost it!😁
How lovely is that St.Catherine's Chapel?! Loved the sentiments 😍
Was the footage filmed within it on a GoPro camera or Karl's fabulous camera? Either ways fabulous photography as usual by the two of you 🤩🥰
No, I do all the filming on a DJI pocket 2, they're brilliant but a bit expensive. GoPros aren't stable enough so we only use that if we do a sitting down and talking vlog lol. Karl only does the drone filming and then we share the big camera for the wildlife filming. It was a lovely little church with the notes people had left too adding to it I think.
@@roaminginraymond I think I said in one of my first comments how artistic you are and it shows in your eye for detail, both you and Karl. There are people on you tube who say they are professional photographers but your creations are every bit as good if not better without you calling yourselves photographers 😍 keep doing what you are doing as have loved your account of every place you have been 🤗
Aw thanks so much Patricia, you're are always so very supportive of us.🥰 Hopefully we will meet on the road sometime. We are in Scotland at the end of next week for a couple of weeks maybe.
@@roaminginraymond I'm often down South Ayrshire and South West way so if you are coming up/going back that way you can let me know. I'm going down to North Yorkshire for a week at the beginning of April 🥰
How lovely, we love North Yorkshire, it's a beautiful area and it's a trip on the cards for us too. We will let you know as we would like to go to Ayrshire again if we have time.
Brilliant! Let’s hope the women were sent decent husbands! X
Lol, yes definitely!😁
