    Now that's a sturdy rebuild tool. 👍

    As someone who has been there, the problem isn't the T-handle not providing enough leverage. The issue is the caliper. _Rebuild the caliper or replace it._ Because if you do manage to get the piston in enough to replace the pads the caliper will not apply the proper pressure to pads when braking... the piston is partially seized.

  • @markchandler001
    @markchandler001 Рік тому

    Great video. Took me four hours from wheel off to wheel back on to fit new brake pads due to an extremely stiff piston. Bent the handle worse than you did! After a couple of hours of effort and watching average videos I saw my Monkey wrench by chance and thought I try and get a grip with that which worked but not without having to readjust.
    A big problem was trying to keep the caliper still but I saw you bolted it back on! So simple and obvious, you should make people aware of that great hack as not one video I looked at showed this!
    Been thinking all day on how to improve the rewind tool and how to hold the brake caliper but you nailed it! Good job!

    Wee trick I use at work for tapping is deburring the hole first to give it a lead. Then start your thread off with a taper tap as it will line up better, then chase it out with the plug tap.

    • @A7X_foREVer_Philly
      @A7X_foREVer_Philly 9 місяців тому

      It also helps to tap both hole from one side or you end up with reverse threads on 1 side

    good mod for the tool just done some of these rear brakes this weekend,
    if you had spun the nut you made 90° in the vice it would have clamped on the face where you cut it (and been flat for drill/tap) 👍

  • @MarkVanWey
    @MarkVanWey Рік тому

    5:10 trying to tap a straight hole with that nut at 60 degress is killing me. Put the nut in the vise, but rotate it 90 degress (looking at it from the top). Now you are clamping from the side you just cut off. (the hole is NOT visible from the side) Now rotate it so that the face you want to drill is straight up & down.

    This was pretty genius, have to be honest. My callipers and carriers turned up so I'll have to be doing this soon for the first time - not fiesta ones so not sure what bits are there/missing. Another vid that shows great things can still be achieved with basic tools, some planning and some brain power. And as always very enjoyable to watch.

    👎Great idea BUT you made a huge error. Which is why it got harder and harder to put that bolt in.
    You MUST tap (thread) both holes from one side. If not you end up with one side having reversed threads and you will have to cross thread (ruin) the bolt.
    Righty tighty lefty loosy. The way it was done the bolt would go thru the first hole with no problem but then hit left hand threads on the other side then it would either stop or cross thread and be ruined. I was surprised you got it in at all TBH.
    Its vey simple if you think about it.
    Also stainless harware is very easy to ruin. Ive seen it happen many times at work. Someone with run a nut down with an impact instead of with their hand or wrench, then tighten with impact. If you run the nut down fast with an impact or drill the threads will lock up and it will need to be cut or broke off. Ive personally had to break many stainless studs using a wrench and impact and about 5 min per nut. Its hard work. We couldn't cut because we couldn't produce sparks due to location. 🔥
    This is very basic mechanical knowledge.
    Other then that it turned out nice. Im going to make the whole tool from scratch.
