    A lot of people seem pretty sour on the Lumeris, but I think they're really cool. Planet Brokers makes it viable to focus on dust improvements rather than industrial ones in the early game. Their population bonus means you can develop economically AND grow your population fast on fertile worlds that are typically poor in dust. That's a powerful early advantage.

    • @apheirox
      @apheirox 7 років тому +1

      Not really.
      The issue is Dust is rather awful in Endless Space 2 - the conversion rates compared to Industry are very poor. It becomes even more of a problem later in the game due to inflation, but even early on you pay way too much Dust for each point of Production. It does provide increased flexibility in where to spend your 'production' but your production is going to be overall much lower than if you did focus on production improvements.
      TLDR: Dust sucks and because the Lumeris is focused on it, the Lumeris suck as well. I do think they need to improve dust-industry conversion rates for balance.
      The Planet Brokers ability would be really useful if you could simply buy out systems anywhere but since Outposts still require food support from established systems to grow you really can't settle too far away from your owned systems.

    This is a decent over view of the Lumeris. The reason for the Gnashast is for defense because they lack early game production. They not only make it harder to invade Lumeris systems but provide Militarist support for Laws like lower fleet cost and spoils of war in case you end up in a war... or want to start one. It is the same for the science for destroyed ship module. They both act as contingencies against war and aggression.
    The Lumeris can be very antagonistic. You can weaponize planet broker by sniping systems an opponent wants to expand to then use some manpower to steal food from their outpost. If you win the outpost contest you get all the planets with outposts in the system. You can then flood the system with Gnashast and make it really difficult to invade. I have used it to great effect and have crippled the AI with it several times.

      I understand that Gnashast give the Lumeris a bit of military power. What i think is weird about it, why this big of a contrast in opinions, between the races that are put together? How did the Lumeris ever get together with the Gnashast. I think that is what's weird about it. You are referring to the part around 10:40. In the beginning of the game, normally no system would get invaded that fast that Gnashast even make a difference. Normally you would start a war, build your ships, and yay military support increased. So in the beginning there is no real need for defense on a planet. Maybe only in very few games. 11:55 explains it for me. I use the Gnashast as well, (when your system is level 2) to move the Gnashast to the system in danger.

      I think your taking the definition of pacifist literally. Pacifism in endless space isn't an dislike of violence so much as it is a disposition to diplomacy and trade. A talk first shoot later approach if you will. The Lumeris are modeled after the mafia and as such their business practices are very violent and cut throat. Assassination, hostile take overs, property damage, drug running, if the Lumeris can turn a profit on it they will do it. Despite their affinity towards mercantilism they are far from honest merchants. The Lumeris are more of a crime syndicate than a legit business. The four families are a shadow government that control everything from behind the scenes. When you start thinking of the Lumeris as crooks and mobsters then it makes sense that they would have a bunch of goons who are more brawn than brain on the pay roll to do the dirty work.

      @@stevemorris3746 Exactly. I won with Lumeris the first time I played ES2. After building up lots of money and then trying to avoid conflict by paying off threats-it didn't work-I decided to build some amazing fleets. This worked because I had a lot of money saved and could use my industry and excess money to build ships. I destroyed 8 of Horatio's planets with the core-cracker because he/they were kinda the biggest a-holes in the game.

    Overall I was a bit disappointed with the Lumeris compared to their Roving Clans counterpart in Endless Legend. There are just some parts of their kit that feels underwhelming and useless. A great example being their minor faction that they start out with, which you did a great job at pointing out that while it is interesting that the developers had selected them to be the minor faction of them, they are pretty useless. I play a lot of Unfallen, and I feel that I can pump out much higher amounts of dust on them, then whenever I play the Lumeris. It can just be so crippling how bad their early game can be sometimes since they don't get any bonuses to production or food.

      I mean, I feel like if you play the Riftborn, you just produce a shit ton of Dust and Production. Just their population manages to produce three forms of resources, which I find to be a little broken even with the fact that you can only manufacture your Riftborn populace.
