I used SAE string and it actually worked....well i think the point is that you have to stop the engine from turning over to counteract the torque of the wrench...string stops the piston without scratching anything....

Thanks mate, Having never worked on a saw seeing how it came apart gave me more confidence to go with a hunch I had.
Hopefully I can have my 034AV Super cutting again soon.

It’s just nuts and bolts brother!
Just remember on this guy you “tighten” the clutch nut to remove it.
If something doesn’t feel right, step back and have a look before you take the air tools to her. Best of luck.

Metric string is this a joke? Just nylon string unless impact would spin it off without even using string!! Save 40 minutes just take the impact and a rag holding clutch slightly if it comes off you didnt need to remove plug.

On this saw you’ll see the nut and clutch are actually one piece. Don’t quit your day job.
