Blues is just one part of what makes him so awesome. He doesn't need to put out a full album dedicated to the blues; the licks are already there integrated into all his songs anyway. It's much more interesting and enjoyable listening to his unique fusion of blues, pop, country, folk and R&B/soul. The Search for Everything is like a prism showing off his myriad of colours. If you want to listen to classic blues then just listen to classic blues lmao.
While that doesn't happen, listen to "Break It All Down" by Richie Kotzen, some really innovative blues there, sadly forgotten album from the early 2000's
There's thousands of musical universes out there. Blues is just one of them. John is an artist. He enjoys traveling and soaking in the sights of all these musical universes. He's already made tons of blues music, you have to move forward in everything in life. We can't all just play the same blues for 60 some odd years before we grow old and die.
just saw him last night for the first time ever, what a very surreal experience hearing the music then walking through the doors and its actually the person.
You are such a talented player, you have covered everything from pop, blues, jazz, rock, indie, country, reggae, Hendrix, southern rock, you have conquered the guitar world. Play on Player !!! 🎸👍✌️🇺🇸😎👏
Most impressive to me is his original songwriting that I wouldn't choose to characterize into any genre other than singer/songwriter, as well as his time playing with Dead and Company. Love that he's in with the hippies and well loved all over, his music's just great, so expressive.
So glad you didn’t listen to John and saved this. This video made my morning. I wish I could get the invite to his kitchen jam session. I would be in there cooking and singing while he plays guitar. If John Mayer reads this meet me at Ranchos Palos Verdes. I’ll be laying in the sunshine 🌞
I'm a very proud owner of the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky and it's a absolute excellent guitar to play! Thank you John and Paul great piece of art to enjoy and play! 😃
It really is a special guitar. I’m a Tele player, but played a few SS’s in store and they’re inspiring. I’d love to see this blue released…tho, the price keeps going up at this point ha.
I've only gotten into electric guitar a little bit compared with acoustic, but the weird shit that happens around electricity freaks me out sometimes. You haven't lived till you've gotten zapped on the lips at the mic while singing~zing! wtf wuz dat
John, you're the coolest... woodshedding, doing your practice licks for the upcoming Dead and Company concert, and sharing it live on Instagram. What an awesome Multitasker! Will be happy as a clam to see you do your magic June 4th at the Hollywood Bowl.
Just watching... The level of ability in this short video is amazing... he has such an ear to pickup the key and be right in with it first note. Once in a couple generations talent .. crazy how good he is. His brain, ears and fingers are just wired for it.
OMG! I keep on coming back to this kitchen jamming! Thanks so much for recording and posting it here 👍👍 That Tennessee Jed n Jack Straw are so effing tasty! 😋😋❤❤
Not gonna lie John I wasn't much of a country or roots fan, but after seeing the soul it provides to ones soul and to ones guitar playing, it's essentially to life
Being open to all playing styles adds to your core repertoire and invigorates tired old licks when you come back to them. Open yourself up to some Gypsy Jazz and get your mind blown.
This video threw my head for a spin. First, I was wondering why he was playing left handed. Then why his Strat has PRS inlays/headstock. Never knew he left Fender.
John Mayer you’re amazing! Thank you for being you! You’re an awesome blessing to the world. I’ve loved your music from the beginning! We are the same age 😂 God has given you a beautiful gift 💝 and Thank you for singing me to sleep. 🙏 😴
This is now just by listening to you this morning I learned a lot you know the doo doo doo Arc explained I just kind of jammed along with you and you know how you make up your own things it was great thank you

I was apprehensive when I first heard the Dead chose John Mayer, even tho I knew he was a great blues player and all... I guess I felt that the fact he didn't do drugs especially a CPL decades worth of LSD that he was missing that insight that acid gifts us but I was wrong... John is a perfect fit and brings a new life to the Dead.. I love how John gets Chiementi and Oteil going... I've always loved Jeff Chiementi s playing in Ratdog and Oteil, well don't even have to say... He has the grooves... Thanks John...

TigerStrike728 I agree. He also seems very lonely, though 😔

Jacob Collier is super interactive with his friends but he's not as big as John
Can John just put out a classic blues album already? 😣 teasing us with these licks
He did release an album of live blues music called john mayer trio - try. But yeah that was years ago it's way over due for another one
I am hoping the same

I think his signiture style is playing rhythm and lead simultaneously.
Not really his signature; SRV did it first listen to tracks like Hideaway
