Learn To Make Your Own Resin Fishing Lures

- Creating your own lures gives you full control over design and color. You can also modify the weight in your lures for better balance and movement in the water. Making your own lures will also save you money in the long run.
In this video, and original model is sculpted in clay. The clay model is placed in a mold box. Ease Release 200 is applied to the model and box. Mold Star™ 20T silicone is mixed and poured over the model. After the Mold Star™ 20T silicone cures, the mold is cut open and the model is removed.
To create the casting, Cast Magic™ pearlescent powder is brushed into the mold. The mold is closed, and Feather Lite™ low density lightweight urethane is poured into the mold. After the Feather Lite™ cures, the mold is opened and the cast lure is removed.
The lure can then be painted before use.

You are a Genius! 💪🏽🤓👍🏼
I’ve always wanted to make my own swim or jigging baits. Especially to color the baits according to what the fish key on for that particular body of water or time of year.
You could even add or embed a plastic swim spoon in the front to give the lure a swim action. Super nice 👍🏼
This is so cool 😎 Thanks guy for posting.

Cool deal...great informational video!
Thanks for watching!
Resin is magic🤩
The end photo of the fisherman holding the fish is so fake, you can see the bad photoshop work lmao
Amigo buenas tardes .muy bueno su tutoría.sera que me puede ayudar y decirme el nombre de la resina con que se hace el molde y de la otra con que se funde el señuelo?? Gracias y saludos desde ecuador
Possibly the hooks should be attached better to the lure. It seems evident that the hook will strip out if it catches a fish. At least if it is a big one.
In some cases, a more robust wire could be used to attach the hooks.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a wire connecting all of the hooks to the eyelet.
This is just to show you how this product works, if you wanted a stronger connection, that all on you. You and only you are responsible for the final product, this is show and tell
Those eye screws won’t strip out unless you hook a freight train and use no drag. That stuff sets up like wood.
I'm like, why is he putting the pins in already. Because he's brilliant. Want a time saver.
greetings from Indonesia, senior, please allow me to listen and understand his work and knowledge
Thanks for watching!
@@smoothon Thank you again, seniors, greetings from Indonesia, seniors, healthy greetings always
thank for an easier way to make lures!! i have tried balsa wood and that failed just like other things i have tried,, thank you for the tips and info
You are very welcome
This is great, thanks a lot! Is the lure neutrally buoyant or does it float or sink?
This lure could do either, depending on any weights added.
Thank you!! My use will be for mixed media outdoor decor. My question: does the resin yellow in the sun/water? Very nice tutorial.
To protect this resin from yellowing it must be painted.
best video i seen
Thanks for watching, and don't forget to subscribe!
A two part mold would've been my go-to route and also those eyelets won't hold a big fish when hooked. Great presentation though 👊🏻
Thank you for watching and the suggestions!
Nice work
Thank you for this video helped alot
Thank you for watching!
@@smoothon So could the Tarbender mix be used on something like a hand painted piece of yard art? Does it 'care' if it's enamel or acrylic paint? I do handpainted signs and would like them to have a longer lifespan! Thank you!
@@RICDirector This sounds suitable, but we would recommend you perform a small scale test before using on an important project.
@@smoothon Thank you! Went to your site and it sounds like it's meant to be!

where can i get components like eyeletts, glass eyes, bills, joint attatchments?
Douglas Livingston Jann’s Netcraft. They have all that and more
Do you have to use the SO strong blue? What is it's purpose? Is it needed to allow the lure to cure or is it for color only?
It is for color only.
How would you add a bill to this design? Could you add it before the pour just like the eyelets?
Yes you could, as long as there was a mechanical attachment point on the bill.
So basically you just make an out line sand smooth it then?
Featherlite resin is very easy to sand.
Is this fuel resistant? Like for a carburetor float?

Beautiful work!
Thank you for sharing!
How strong is the actual resin? Strong enough to not break, say if hit with a hammer or jabbed with a pointed object?
Featherlite has lower impact resistance than Smooth-Cast semi-rigid resin, but it is very lightweight. For an impact resistant casting, Smooth Cast 57D would be a good place to start.
What could be for the type sinking? 🙏,

What is recommended for a mold release for making the mold with the clay master and for making resin copies with the mold ? I intend to paint afterwards and ive had issues with some release agents reacting with the paint.
Hello Joshua! Ease Release 200 is recommend, but all releases tend to be an issue with reacting with paints. Here's a link to our FAQ regarding the removal of release agents! www.smooth-on.com/support/faq/144/

Can I use this resin for Lead Lures molding like Jigg lures?
The silicone mold can withstand metals up to 450F
@@smoothon hi sir, does that mean I cannot use it for lead casting esp. with 300g? Thanks
If the metal is below 450F melting temperature
Use really fine sand for lead casting.
I am really tired .. I studied engineering .. and I loved to work on a small project through which I would sell these artificial grafts .. and everything was done successfully except for these strange materials, sources that are not available in my country and I cannot buy them from Amazon because we are blocked from the world and prohibited from using eBay Because of the economic sanctions and political boycotts on my government..it is Syria..
Everything is simple for me and I can do it as if I am trying to make a cup of coffee .. But I do not know how I can import these materials to my country ..
