One day I dream of keeping some goldfish in a nice big tank. I want to do as much research as possible so I can keep them happy and healthy. Thank you for the amazing information! :)
I am so glad I found your channel. I love animals but my husband is very against anything that makes a mess in the house. So we have talked about getting some fish for a few moths. One day out of the blue my husbands grandmother bought my kids some fish. She gave us 4 small common goldfish, 3 danio glofish, and 1 pleco. They were all in a 2 gallon tank. (I know....I know.....just awful) Well unfortunately like many people who buy fish for their kids we had absolutely no clue on how to properly care for them. Within 3 days the water had become incredibly cloudy and we lost the pleco and 1 goldfish. The remaining goldfish had lost all of their color and became very lethargic. At this point I immediately started googling and felt so guilty after learning so much. That evening I went to the store and got a 10 gallon tank and everything I needed to switch them over immediately. It made me so happy to put them in the clean water. The danios were swimming like crazy for over an hr. After almost a month in the new tank we only lost 1 danio and have completed the nitrogen cycle. The goldfish have gotten their energy back and seem much happier. The kids are already over them so I say they are my fish now as I have put so much work and energy into them. I have enjoyed them so much that I actually want a much bigger tank. I have some questions I would like to ask you about it and the kind of fish I want. If you have the time and are willing, do you perhaps have an email that we could communicate through?

I have a 50 gallon tank in which I would like to put fancy goldfish. From what I have been reading on the internet, some people are saying that goldfish tanks require the filtration to be 10 times the volume of the tank. That means I would have to have a filter or combination of filters that would do 500 gph. That seems like it would be really hard on the fish. What do you suggest?

Can anyone please answer this question regarding ph. I'm new to fish keeping and don't yet fully understand How ph affects fish. I've had some fancy goldfish in a 240 litre for 8 months now and the ph is 7.2. My watwater changes have been 60 litre weekly. I've never left it longer than a week because I was scared of affecting ph. But life has got in the way and water changes have been neglected for a month. what are good decent live plants for comet goldfish this big or bigger?
They eat them all. Maybe Anubias!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you for the recommendation. i was thinking
something with fat thick leaves.
Thank you for the video, it's great! I have a problem with my goldfish. When i bought them they had been about 3 cm. They are in a 360 liter tank. Now they are 3 year and it is one female and two male. Last two springs they hunted the female just a little. but this year it is so what can, they are hunting her for two days, thwo weeks ago it had been same... what can I do? Or is the onliest possibility to have only one gender? Thank you for help!
Ya, they will most likely continue to do that if kept together.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you, I have to decide, If I ceep the male ore the female...
jason i keep goldfish i usually add aquarium salt when i do water changes i wanted to start adding plants like pothos ect. can aquarium salt disrupt the health of the plant?
Good question - yes, some plants don’t do well with salt.
So I shud not keep any other fish with goldfish? evne if one is goldfish and only two other types? I'm researching to buy my first proper tank of around 4-5 fishes, I really want them to keep them healthy so they can live long. Please give me suggestions on which different fishes can stay together in a 20g tank.
Goldfish can be kept together. I probably wouldn't keep multiples in a 20g tank though. This may help: ua-cam.com/video/d_ThBcXCusQ/v-deo.html
Those are very nice I rarely see gold fish like that
My kid wanted gold fish so we bought him two and put them in a bowl, now you said we should get a 20 gallon tank which is a bit big for us to maintain but I really want to move them to a fish tank so can't I just use 10 gallon tank?
They usually outgrow a 10 gallon fairly quickly.
I have a large Sarassa Comet named Carmichael.
Are feeder gold fish the same as gold fish? I went to the fish store and they gave me baby feeder glodfish for my 20 gallon tank? What size tank will I need when the fish get older? I was thinking of adding 5 glo fish to the tank.
Yep - the goldfish you see here were all "feeder" goldfish.
Hi i recently bought 6 one inch small goldfish an i have them in a 10 gal tub. How often should i change water.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/2hr02gxpk2I/v-deo.html
Do u think I can keep 2 orandas or ranchu in a 20g
Usually a 40 gallon is the minimum for one goldfish.
Thanks I had goldfish in the past and I have questions
How much should I clean a 10 gallon tank with baby goldfish
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/2hr02gxpk2I/v-deo.html
I have 15 gallon tank. How many small goldfish should i only keep in that tank
I wouldn't put goldfish in anything less than a 40 gallon. They get really big!
Great looking tank
20 gallons per goldfish minimum on a fancy that don't grow large. Wouldn't keep anything less than 6ft tank for a common/feeder/comet.
Nice fish haven't you got a canister filter on there
Nope - just had the sponge filters
@@PrimeTimeAquatics how do they keep up with the waste? I thought you needed a canister filter for goldfish because of the waste
Old school video! Nice one 👍🏻
It sure was :-)
Πώς γίνεται να τα έχεις μόνο με αεροφιλτρα τα χρυσόψαρα;
They do ok. Sponge filters have plenty of biological filtration capacity.
Agreed
Hello Jason! how many African cichlids juvenile can I keep in 2.5 ft tank?
I've kept entire clutches in that size tank - 30 or so. Obviously, I moved them out as they got older.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks Jason
So why can't I use a water filter?
i have 140 liters tank with 13 goldfish, and i change the water on 7 8 days is that ok and also i have 2 sponge filters :)
I usually use nitrates to determine how often and volume to change water. This may help: ua-cam.com/video/2hr02gxpk2I/v-deo.html
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thx
13 goldfish?!!!!
@@faisalmiah365 yes :)
Nice and informative
Can someone help I do 50% water changes every week for my 55 with 4 gold fish every time I do it tho my water goes cloudy
That can happen. If the water settles down after a day or so I don't worry about it.
What would be the best filter for a 55g tank for common goldfish?
I really like the Seachem Tidal 55 and the Marineland Pro 375
I've heard they are very dirty messy fish as well, but I'd agree they are not. They're constantly digging in the sand looking for stuff. They don't get the respect deserved.
Why is it that my gold fish don't grow in size? I've own them for almost 9 months but they still look the same in size
If they are in a smaller tank they could be stunted a bit?
Why are your goldfish so nice and calm, relaxing to look at.. while mine swim around at the glass like they're on crack?
They do that when younger 😀
Can anyone please answer this question regarding ph. I'm new to fish keeping and don't yet fully understand How ph affects fish. I've had some fancy goldfish in a 240 litre for 8 months now and the ph is 7.2. My watwater changes have been 60 litre weekly. I've never left it longer than a week because I was scared of affecting ph. But life has got in the way and water changes have been neglected for a month. My tap water ph is constantly 7.2 but my tank ph has dropped to 6.6. So my question is this. If my ph shifts suddenly from 6.6 to 7.0 would that be harmful to my fish.
It can be if it keeps happening. Smaller, more frequent water changes can help.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank.you for taking the time to reply. Sorry to be a pest. Could you also tell me. What snail's are best for keeping with goldfish. My gh is 200pp temperature stays at 72f. tds usually 80 to 100ppm and ph 7.0. And my fish are 3 inches. And if snail's is a bad idea. What other algae eaters would you recommend 🤔🥰
Are they fake plants in that tank? I have goldfish, various types. Would live plants be better with them?
Ya, I had fake plants with them. Goldfish tend to tear up real plants.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics ok thanks
For single tail goldfish I would personally ditch the tank and just do a pond
Friend just gave me a 70 gallon guess who’s saving some feeder fish. Love goldfish
That will be cool!
I can’t wait. Thanks for your great videos it’s given me some great ideas
I LOVE GOLDFISH 🐠
So I could get away with two sponge filters in a 10 gallon with 1 common goldfish? And he's been like 4 inches for about 4 years. My dad kept him in a 10 gallon when he first got him for my daughter. Maybe his growth has been stunted 🤷🏾♂️
Ya, sounds like that may be the case. The filters will work fine for a 10 gallon!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Sorry for the late response but thanks!
So kind you too them
What type of goldfish are those?
Those were regular Petsmart feeder goldfish. 😀 Comet goldfish is what they are typically called.
They're so cute
Would a 10 gallon be okay for a common goldfish as a start tank with weekly 25% or so water changes?
There a 50 ish gallon tank that has something wrong with its water so it’s gonna be redone and fixed but is the 10 okay to keep in until then?
For a temporary holding tank it will work fine.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics how long would be the max time I could keep it in there?
Also, props to you for continuing to respond 4 years in the future
Good fi I like the white goldfi
The white gold fish
is ph 8 safe for gold fish
It worked for me!
