Lucinda Williams is the genius in front of this music. This is her original Rough Trade band (Gurf Morlix on guitar, Donald Lindley on drums and Dr. John Ciambotti on bass). This is where it first all came together.
she is an amazing artist. she interprets her feelings like a brush on a canvas. she captures and draws her life through lyrics and music. when most see shadows, she sees and feels the details.
I first this song in a dive bar in Gladwin Mi, in 1990 . and I have been listening to her ever since her songs are deep with her lyrics, they touch your soul. Plus the musicians that play with her are fantastic.! Love Ya Lucinda always will☮️💟❤️ 1:51
I can see and hear this over and over. Everything is so beautiful and elusive. Is it her indifference and concentration at the same time? Pure genius and iconic.
Austin City Limits was my introduction to so many great artists over the decades, including Lucinda Williams in 1989. Just a few months after this PBS concert aired, I was sitting on the floor in front of the stage of an intimate club in S.E. Portland watching this same lineup. So good I never missed Lucinda when she played the Pacific Northwest. Memorable show at 1993's Bumbershoot Arts Festival in Seattle ... on a stage under The Space Needle!
lovely comment perfectly captures Lucinda it's that ability to see the inner light shining through the everyday feelings you said it better when just waking up and starting a new day is important I just saw her in Toronto and wished I'd brought my daughter (14 years old) just so she could see one helluva grown woman
I love the country singing days of Lucinda's singing. She's a bit laid back and mellow over the past decade. Girl used to be able to belt it out like Loretta Lynn's understudy. She never has done even an average album but with how great West and Car Wheels are, people can forget just how great her self-titled debut and Sweet Old World are.
This song came across my recommendations on the Tube. So I remember the now Gurf was Bill T. When he was young guy and living in Hamburg NY. He sold me an old Guild guitar that was in bad shape so took to guitar repair guy who fixed up guitar and played it for next 20 years. Has come a long way since, nice guitar work here Gurf…..weird name though…
This is from the first of two Live From Austin Texas DVD's in 1989. She said it was the first time they'd played to such a big audience, and they'd never experienced such a loud applause. Didn't distract from the performance though. I wonder if Gurf still has that jacket.
LW is always amazing. Been a fan of hers for a long time, but this video reminds me of Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) - just because of her eyes. And the guitar player looks a bit like James Manke.
@hydensecret agreed. i loved the fire of the self titled album and "sweet old world", back when she was collaborating with gurf morlix and rocking out. i have tried over and over to get into the "car wheels" type material, but it's just not all that interesting to me.
I keep replaying this video and thinking that lead guitarist Gurf Morlix is supporting Lucinda's lead vocal as perfectly as Mike Campbell did for Tom Petty.
If he were jimi hendrix or daune allman, he wouldn't be the genius behind her voice. Gregg Allman is proof of my statement. He made a living for almost 50 years after DA was gone. Voices like these 2 have don't come along every day.
That's guitarist Gurf Morlix, who produced her 1988 album "Lucinda Williams" and its follow-up, 1992's "Sweet Old World." Just months after seeing this performance on ACL, I was siting on the floor of a Portland club just spitting distance from Lucinda and Gurf.
My favorite Lucinda song. Perfectly encapsulates that feeling of being in love.
exactly why i love it so much. i've had multiple crushes in my life and the stuff you feel in these moments is EXACTLY like she describes here.
Lucinda's voice and songwriting are just divine. IMHO Gurf Morlix here was the guitarist that most suited her voice and songs.

Who can resist the name Gurf Morlix? It's like saying 'I want more' while choking on Cheerios.
Come on Austin Texas crew.. release this on a dvd and cd combonation.. it is a once in a lifetime event never to be repeated.
In fact it's only available on dvd secondhand and never on cd.. So please consider a dvd cd combination before she's dead.

Lucinda is the salt of the earth. For me she is one of the premier artists who speaks to real women

this is why I'm such a big fan

Such simplicity and so heartfelt I do love this woman truly. Think I'll head to her Montana appearance in July!
Yes. Thank You Lucinda. LivefAustinTexas, you too.
She's so great
Beautiful Lady beautiful song!!!
That song's better live! They're amazing.
Gurf Morlix 🎸⚡
Great live performance.
Greentings from Recife, Brazil. Nice song. ✌👏👏
love this song it says it all, thanks for the clip

“Lucinda Williams” was her third album.
The power of suggestion is strong for Lucinda as she follows Gurf's lead in taking of the well deserved refreshment...lol!
Love this
Im in love with Lucinda!
I love you Lucinda
this is for real, very good!
Damn! She looks like a kid!!! This woman has kicked ass from the word "GO!".
Such perfectly honest lyrics!
Gurf Morlix plays the guitar like he wants to stop what comes out of it - that's a compliment ..
.
Thanks for the Video, Lucinda is awsome
Sooo good
Amazing! My role model
Love!

I started this thinking I'd write something clever.
However the English language fails to provide adequate words
So Thanx Lu. Love ya

Precious 💎💖🇧🇷
Wish they would put up the whole show from 1989. This is far superior than the latter show in 1998.
still looking.... next fall. 420
Wow.
you've always been such a shy girl, Lucinda
Makes me want to go out and buy an electric guitar!
🇨🇱 💃 🇨🇱 💃 🇨🇱 💃 🇨🇱
@ancorasenza
You are so RIGHT!!
💜💜💥💥💜💜
@ancorasenza sounds to me like she writes from raw, exposed nerves.
Yep
✌🏽
I just want to see this video SO bad

❤🙏🏻😎🌹
found my way here because of "One Mississippi."
She and Gurf knew how…
love gurf morlix as a sideman to lucinda
Is that a young Daniel Lanois on guitar?
Gurf Morlix is the genius behind this music. Lucinda didn't believe enough in herself for awhile, but she sure does now.
If he were jimi hendrix or daune allman, he wouldn't be the genius behind her voice. Gregg Allman is proof of my statement. He made a living for almost 50 years after DA was gone. Voices like these 2 have don't come along every day.
Her voice is a lot like Christine McVie's
Gurf!!!
I did not realize Gurf Morlix had those guitar chops.
Can anybody help out an old man with failing eyesight??
Is that Mike Campbell playing lead standing to Lu's left???

Shes the female Tom petty. Song writing and looks.
Wish she had performed with Tom Petty. They looked (at this time) and sounded so much alike, imo. American Girl maybe?
dude swear she looks crosseyed
I appears that her left eye can't move as far to the right as her right eye.
this song is bad
