That a Union is willing to standup for those workers at the lowend tier of pay and benefits is a defining mark of highest dedication to the welfare of all its members, it speaks volumes why Union Representation is the best way to provide all the benefits and fair wages that American workers deserve. Infact today's on the job protections that American workers enjoy and benefit from are the result of the History of America's Union Labor accomplishments since the workers rights struggle started in the Garment and Auto industries in the beginning of the 20th century, circa 1920's.
Why negotiations break down and one party is said to have walked out, in this case the Union; the UPS has probably stated that they have given their last proposal, leaving out a key area of negotiation that they may have repeatedly side stepped. Once they say they have given all their proposals knowing it is a challenge to the other negotiating party it is an ultimatum the answer is accept or no deal? Then the workers resolve is being tested, so Rightfully the workers are willing to Strike if necessary. In this case during periods of high service demand such as holidays, parties workers are hired, these workers while doing all the same work that full time employees do generally are hired at much lower pay scale. UPS has enjoyed a boom in growth of revenues, thus profits over an extensive period of time, this wage issue is beyond fair and reasonable and UPS can solve this without the need for a work stoppage!
The post office sucks even worse than UPS. Both have slipped to the point where they screw up virtually everything they touch. In may neighborhood neither can get the mail or packages delivered to the correct address or without damage.

All us employees should do what the ignorant in the comments are saying. Let's just quit and when they're wondering where their packages from Walmart, Amazon, Target, Staples, Gap inc, Cellular Phone Companies, Temu, and more are, then they'll understand.
Of course Fedex Ground says they can handle the extra load. Typical response from a company that doesn't deliver packages. Most drivers work on salary and will not be paid any more than they already are for working twice the hours. Meanwhile 6 figure UPS drivers are going on strike. Most of the Fedex ground contract drivers make less than half what UPS drivers make for the same job and have zero benefits. Fedex employees that "sort" the packages make better wages than UPS sorters though. Fedex ground contractors are nowhere near ready for a strike and good ole Fedex will just sort the packages to the trucks and demand that the contractors deliver all of them every day. They will sort as many as they can and delay dispatch until they are done. So, with late dispatches and huge loads everyday, many will have little accidents or suffer injuries and contractors will hemorrage drivers left and right. Many will just quit because driving for a contractor is not a lifestyle like driviing for UPS and when they have to work UPS hours, they will find work elsewhere.

What most of these workers don’t understand is if everyone’s pay increases, then that leads to less money for operational expenses, which would put their very jobs at risk IF there is a downturn/recession. The short term solution is to give in to their demands to prevent catastrophic loss. The medium term solution is to hire new workers at lower pay, and layoff the people who were complaining about pay first (and/or once a downturn hits). The long term solution is autonomous/robot drivers and package handlers. No complaints and work 24/7.
