There are Delrin pads on the needle case that ride against the V Rails. It is a self lubricating plastic that will work without oil, it just never hurts to put a small amount of oil between them. Either way, you should wipe them from time to time to clean off dirt and dust,.
I needed help oiling the V-rail because the pictures are not clear, so I found this video to hopefully help and all he does is look at the picture that is not clear and talk through the slide as if I didn't already read through that myself (around video time 8:25). It's unhelpful. I need to SEE where exactly to place oil on the v-rail via demonstration. That is what videos are for. It says to oil the front and back. Does that mean the top of the ledge and inside ledge? Or actually the back of the rail, because in the picture, it just shows oil on the top of the ledge, not front or back.??
See if this helps. I'll show the photos again, but then I'll oil it in the video. If I understand your question, the top ledge - front and back. ua-cam.com/video/grqrS7tiR5k/v-deo.html

I have an XT, and they are very clear that NO oil should be put on the V rail, so I assume that oiling the V Rail is a new idea.
