Great video and thank you for sharing this. Few people realize that in the Final game vs MSU - Bird had 13 rebounds and 5 steals. MSU had a great defensive scheme by double teaming Bird almost every time Bird touched the ball. It was amazing that ISU made it to the Final game = what a tournament run!!
Everyone talks about the Spartans offense. But there 2-3 zone was Solid.. never allowing the ball to get in the paint.. great rebounding and a preview of showtime
Is there any other player who had such an explosive and immediate impact on the team he joined as Bird? ISU had never been in the NCAA tournament, Bird led them to an undefeated regular season and all the way to the final game. He then turned the Celtics from one of their worst seasons ever to one of their best season records… in his first year in the NBA. None of the other possible “GOAT"s have had an an impact like that in both college and their first NBA season.
I remember this era so well. Growing up in Indiana he was our hero above all others. I remember older kids telling each other he would be the biggest star ever from Indiana and I suppose 45 years later they were right.
They called traveling on Bird: Today's college and pro game doesn't even know the meaning of the word! Can you even imagine if these 1979 Ref's had to officiate a college or pro game today? They would be worn out calling traveling or palming the ball on every play😄
@@JayELR7 Jay Vincent played for Dallas for about 10 years! Greg Kelser played for Detroit and had a good NBA career for about 7 years before a career ending knee injury.
Bird was a scoring machine in college..and with no three points shot. If there was he would have averaged 40 a game
What a great footage and editorial work. Much thanks.

I’m not sure which was more impressive?
And then won NBA Coach of the Year.
And then NBA Executive of the Year.
You are awesome. Proof that Bird is the true....true....GOAT
Bird was the GOAT of his era, but no one has ever come close to dominating the game like the almighty Chamberlain.
@@steverakes6182Bird was a better all around player! And wasn’t a foot taller than 95% of the guys he faced!
@@CoreyT127 Since when is 4'' considered a foot? Just compare the stats of both to feel foolish.

He scored 40 points ? 1 in every 6 games in college. And 30 points ? 4 outta every 10 games approx! Unbelievable 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Larry took a jr college team to the ncaa title game. Bird and Katelyn Clark, the goats.
Thank you for this video - well done. I've never seen these college games in review like this.
Not surprising that Larry Legend carried this team to the championship game. Larry Bird is the GOAT of the NBA.

Unwatchable anymore.

Unathletic huh? 🤔
Thank you for the awesome video.
Larry Bird and four regular guys almost beat powerhouse Michigan State with several future pros.
In case anyone asks you Greg Kelser and Jay Vincent and Ron Charles all saw an NBA roster = all players with Magic on this championship team!

Jay Vincent played some quality minutes in Dallas I believe.
Carl Nicks of isu played a little bit of nba ball..

Thanks! It’s been a while.
I used to listen to the Dallas Mavericks on AM radio back in their early years!
