I love this tutorial. I have a 2 questions: what brand of varnish did u use to seal the pot? And my 2nd question is did you take out the glass before of after the clay get dry?
Beautiful! Does the water from the plant effect the pot at all? I know you can seal it, but I just wonder if after a while the water gets to it no matter what.
Thank you Ambee! If the pot is properly sealed with 2-3 coats of sealant than it will not be damaged by water even after years. If you want to be on the very safe side a good alternative is to use a plastic pot inside the clay pot.
Hi, if you want to put your plant straight on the clay pot then you have to coat it with water based varnish, or you can have a plastic pot inside the clay pot. Hope it helps, thank you!
I have read that we should not plant the plants directly in the air dry pot due to water making it soft. What do you think about it? I want to make some but not sure how to handle this. Darling pot and thank you for the video!
Thank you. I'm going to try this. Did you pull the glass out immediately, or did you let it a dry some. I'm worried about smudging the designs if the clay is too soft but, I don't want the glass to get stuck.
I let it dry for 2 days then removed the glass, the clay was not completely dry, because I live in a very cold place, but it was firm enough not to ruin the design. You can take a little sample of the clay make the same design at the same day as the pot and use it to test when it is firm to touch. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks!
Did you roast it in the oven before placing the plant or is it safe to use immediately, meaning that it will not disintegrate due to exposure to moisture and water? please answer me .....
Hej thanks! I did not use sealant on mine because the plant i put on it needs very little water, but you are right about it getting soft and a waterproof sealant should be applied.
Because the plant I put on this pot requires very little water. I show how to make the drainage hole on this video ua-cam.com/video/qP0nBZqD5S8/v-deo.html
Hi, yes I have applied 3 coats of varnish and it is holding watering pretty well so far, though the plant I put on it requires very little watering ( once/ twice a month) if you plan on having a plant that needs everyday watering I would suggest you use a plastic pot inside the clay one.
Hi, yes you can paint on it, I have made a similar one where I paint with watercolour and india ink, you can use a lot of different materials to paint on it. If you apply varnish it can last for a long time.
great video! i tried it and it didnt work, the glass got stuck so I had to break the clay up to get the glass out. :( did you take the glass out when the clay is soft still or did you wait for to dry?
Hi, I let the clay dry and then removed the glass, because while still wet the clay clings to the plastic. It can be the shape of the glass you used, make sure the glass is not narrower at the top than in the middle. You can also try to spread oil on the plastic to make it easier. Hope it helps and you give it another try. Thank you!
I’m just starting out downing pottery with air dry clay I have tried making the pots like you have shown on your channel but when I try to get the glass out the clay always keeps braking can you give me any hints or tips please

I love this tutorial. I have a 2 questions:
what brand of varnish did u use to seal the pot?
And my 2nd question is did you take out the glass before of after the clay get dry?
I used varnish from søstrene grene and I removed the glass before the clay was completely dry.

I love it. You are awesome. I’m assuming I can also use a big plastic plant container? Thank you so much.
Yes, you can used a plastic container, it will easily make the pot waterproof. Thank you for watching!
Love the vase.:)
Thank you! 😊 muito obrigada!
Amazing 👏
Glad you think so!

It was not so difficult☺️just a bit😅

Super cute. Do you recommend to resin the inside of air dry clay pots?
Yes, definitely a good way to waterproof it. Thanks!
Hi great video, very creative😉. Doesn't the pot need to be sealed to make it waterproof if your putting a plant inside? Thanks
Yes, you should use water based varnish to make it waterproof if you are putting a plant straight on the clay pot. Thank you! 😉
@@PixienLime Thanks for your advice👍
You are welcome! If you have any other question let me know.😊
This is so amazing!! ❤️ New friend here, glad to have found your channel.
Thank you so much !!
Why didn't you make a draining hole?
Because the plant I put on this pot requires very little water. I show how to make the drainage hole on this video ua-cam.com/video/qP0nBZqD5S8/v-deo.html
When you water the plant does it not unset the clay ?
The plant I have needs very little water and I sealed with varnish, so no the clay does not unset.
Have you found it’s held up with a plant and watering? Did you do anything to waterproof it?
Hi, yes I have applied 3 coats of varnish and it is holding watering pretty well so far, though the plant I put on it requires very little watering ( once/ twice a month) if you plan on having a plant that needs everyday watering I would suggest you use a plastic pot inside the clay one.
I’ve just done something similar but didn’t use enough cling film to pull it out like that, will I be able to let it dry and take it off after?
Hi, maybe you can remove the glass by pulling on its edge!?!! I hope you manage it well. Best of luck!
How durable is it? And can we paint on it?
Hi, yes you can paint on it, I have made a similar one where I paint with watercolour and india ink, you can use a lot of different materials to paint on it. If you apply varnish it can last for a long time.

Hi, you can spread some oil on the glass or wait for the clay to dry a bit longer.
Would I be able to leave my plant pots outside due to the rain and would they be water proof let me know please thanks
Hi, if you seal it well with 2-3 coats of varnish it will be waterproof even in the rain.
This is waterproof please reply

But is it waterproof?
You can make it waterproof by applying one or two coats of varnish.😉
How do you make the clay to be water resistant?
Hi, you can make it waterproof by applying one or two coats of water based varnish
❤❤❤❤
💖💖💖💖
Doesn’t it need a drainage hole? How do you make one?
Hi, you can make a drainage hole with a dotting tool or a brush handle. I show the drainage hole on this video ua-cam.com/video/qP0nBZqD5S8/v-deo.html
Thank you
Another brilliant video and beautiful pot. Loving your work xx
Thank you so much!😉
I love this, it a simple diy. Where did you get the clay?
Thanks! I bought the clay at amazon🙂
That looks so fun! Love it! New subbie here :)
Thank you so much!!😊
doesn't having damp soil in contact with the clay cause it to become pliable again and start to fall apart?
That’s about right.
Hy! How will be waterproof? :)
Hi, you can use clear varnish to make it waterproof.
Can I add a tiny hole on the bottom for drainage? Or rocks should be fine?
You can add a drainage hole if the plant you are planting there requires lots of watering, if not rocks on the bottom are quite enough.
Thank you! :D
Did you waterproof it
No, I did not

Clay isn't waterproof.
Some clays are waterproof and all clays can be turned in waterproof clay…
air dry clay is not waterproof. Why don't you show how it's done and just say now it's ready to be used?
Hi, you can waterproof it by applying varnish or you can use a different kind of clay that is water resistant.
