  • When I get to do a drum solo with my Ken Loomer Big Band live at one of my concerts, I want it to be exciting for sure. First of all, I need drums that will sing and not be dead. These classic 1971 Buddy Rich model Slingerland drums which are over 50 years old, has the most amazing full open tone that that I ever heard from a drum set. You are hearing the natural and real tone out of these drums. With the big 24 inch bass drum tuned wide open and the 5.5x14 inch snare drum which has that super crisp tone, these drums has the perfect sound for the type of technique and control that I use. I try to put as much dynamic`s and control into each drum solo that I do. I like to add some humor at times during my solo to let the people know how much fun I having playing for them. Being the drummer and leader of my own Big Band is why I always give 100% in every performance that I do. I`m an old school drummer keeping this style of drumming alive for the people to hear. At one point of my solo, I`m playing so quiet you can hear a pin drop. This is where my control of the sticks is so important to have. When I kick that bass drum using my technique to make it sound like a double bass drum, I know I`m ready for my big finish. Then I count this swinging powerful Big Band into the arrangement again to close this solo out. The people will let me know how I did in my performance.

I`m an old school drummer that likes the wide open tuning. When it`s my turn to do a solo, I want it to be dynamic and exciting for the people who come to my Big Band concerts. Thanks for your comment.

I have done some cd`s and dvd`s of my Big Band on my own and have sold them at my concerts. This has worked out very good for me in the past. No record label wants to sign up a jazz Big Band any more. When was the last time you ever saw a jazz musician or jazz band on any of the Late Night Talk Shows. It`s Never!! So the best I can do is to promote my bands on my channel for the fans who enjoy the music that I play. Anyone can download my audio or video`s of my bands. If you enjoy any of my concert video`s, just download it. I`m always putting on new video`s. This is the best way to promote me and my bands. Who buys cd`s anymore now? Doing live performance is the best for me. Then I video it and put it on my channel.

@@KenLoomer Sadly, most of the folks who grew up with the classic big bands have sadly passed on.
I guess folks like me (I am 50) who enjoy jazz and big band are few and far between.
I like being old fashioned myself.
You're right about physical music, when I was growing up, you could be music at a variety of stores, and of course music stores, most are gone now, at least I have the memories (good ones).

@@jasonpp1973 The days of the road Big Bands are long gone now. Thanks to the jazz clubs and of course my hard work to even have a Big Band, I get to do these one night concerts. It`s a labor of love on my part. So thanks for enjoying my video`s and the music that I play. I have been doing it for 20 years with my Big Band. Dreams do come true.

@@KenLoomer It's just not big bands that are obscure now, doo wop and pop from 50s and 60s you dont hear anymore as well.
My parents got me to appreciate lots of great classics music.
Heck, I even enjoy classical, especially the old Living Stereo albums.

@@jasonpp1973 You know best what you like in music. As a professional musician, I know I wanted to have my own big band one day. So I did all the work of putting the music together, hiring the musicians, finding the jobs, getting the equiment like sound and band stands together, promoting the band, setting a music account, and so much more. Then of course doing the work of editing and putting my concert video`s on my channel. I`m just a hard working musicians who enjoys his work so much.
