  • I optimised my mountain bike tool and spares kit to save more than half a kilo of weight and a much more compact size. This new kit gives me all the functionality of the previous kit, plus several useful additional tools.
    Kit list.-
Wolf Tooth 8 Bit Pack Pliers
    KMC Mini chain tool
    Tubolito 29" Utralight tube
    Topeak tyre levers
    Lifeline JetValve CO2
    Lezyne Tubeless Kit
    Leatherman Bond multitool

wolf tooth now have additional stackable tools to go with the 8bit, including chain breaker, knife, plug kit etc.

Indeed they do, I think I mentioned them in my other review video specifically of the WolfTooth. At the time I think they were difficult to get hold of in the UK. But I may look at them again.

Hello thanks for making this video! Most impressed. Inspired me to go and spend some money on better compact and lighter tools. Note with the tubolito inner tubes you’ll need the tubolito patches to mend any holes which is handy if you have a subsequent puncture. I suppose it depends how risk averse you are.

Thanks glad you liked it and were inspired. I have got some tubolito patches but they arrived after I'd filmed those shots. I'll carry them with me (as they weigh practically nothing) but it would be hopefully unlikely that I'll have an unpluggable puncture and then get a tube puncture on same ride.

Awesome video, superb production skills, and generally pleasing to watch, you simply shed experience and knowledge :)
Consider replacing the Leatherman multitool for Cobra XS pliers if you really only use the pliers. The knife can be gained by carrying a 85-91mm Swiss Army Knife, you can even choose a lock blade model I think if the length of the blade is below legal threshold.

Thanks glad you enjoyed it, it was fun to make. I'll check out the cobra pliers though I'm thinking the side Cutters on the leatherman could also be useful.
In terms of blades in UK any locking blade is illegal to carry even it it's short. Longer blades are illegal even if non locking. It's hopefully unlikely that a cyclist would get arrested, but it is possible.

Id swap the leatherman man out for a knipex cobra 4 inch and cheap single blade folding knife. Live what you did to the leatherman though. Someone may find that one day and think wtf😅

I think I looked at the Knipex briefly. Better option as grips but less functionality than the Leatherman and I think along with a cheap knife would be heavier also.
In terms as the leatherman mods though I think you're right. I can just imagine some archaeologist in the future explaining how it was used for ritual eating of mini marshmallows when on long rides 🤣🤣

@DTSquared now you said that i have had to weigh it! Leatherman is 87g heavier. To be fair you do get a lot more with the Leatherman.
