    After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. I'm super impressed he just cut all of those miteres as well as the two center pieces and they actually fit without adjustment. This guy earned some cred with me.

    • @davebaker1325
      @davebaker1325 2 роки тому +1

      I'm honestly not trying to put the guy down, because it's a nice piece, but there was a lot of adjustment going on. For instance, when he inserted the middle octagon, you can see one of the adjacent pieces moved. Next clip, there's a wedge piece in there to fill that gap. And since he didn't clamp all the parallel pieces together, they weren't tight, hence the heavy use of epoxy to fill the gaps. Again, not trying to put down his work, because every piece, no matter who builds it, has its imperfections.

    Isn't it a great source of hope to see that this guy actually has over half a million subscribers? I mean, there a so many channels from excellent and talented woodworkers who create just perfect beautiful work... And this good man just yanks everything together. If he can be a success, anybody can be a success. Unbelievable. Woodworking Comedy at it's best.

      I think i would have preferred the octagonal shape, but with rounded vertical edges (rounded looking at it from the side, not above).
      But mainly, the only thing which bothers me is that there was no effort to find the center of balance for the tree piece. 1/3 of the table will tip over if any significant weight is put on it, while the other 2/3 are extremely supported.
      But I agree, cool project.

      Could need a new saw. Im not the world's greatest carpenter,but I have one saw for framing,and one for finishing. I use to just have the one for finishing,but after using it for framing my cuts wouldn't line up as nice.

    Everything looks good, but I think that you should have laid out the base with more equilateral support for the legs.. so that the legs fit in a perfect tripod centered in the circle when looking from above (plan view/ bird’s eye view..) it will give more support if a heavy object is placed over any given area of the table. The way you have laid it out has no support under virtually half the surface area of the top... otherwise very beautiful work, and yes I love your mounting idea for the mortised central cross!

      I mean, a more centered tripod might give more support, but its a freaking solid wood coffee table. I think it is heavy and solid enough that you don't need to worry about optimal support for the given application.

    Top could easily have been larger and would still have not required any supports. That pva glue is awesomely strong. The design is personal choice of course. You have a nice setup there. Well done.
