I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. Like you said there were some little rather convenient moments but without them the film wouldn't work like it did. The only one I thought was particularly odd was the Colonel getting sick at the time he did. He's been immune to the virus until now and suddenly he's not anymore because Caesar is here? I know that was to make Caesar more relate-able and be better than the colonel, he walked away rather than the Colonel who wouldn't of done so if the situation was reversed, but still a little odd.
Yeah, I totally agree. That was rather convenient timing on that illness striking. Also, I was a little confused as to what the illness actually did. They kept saying it reduced humans to a primal state, but based on the little girl and the Colonel, it seemed to just take away the power of speech.
